Dec 27, 2010

I have Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10 on my Toshiba laptop. In windows everything is fine but in ubuntu if i plug in external speakers they do not work. Even when the external speakers are plugged in the laptop's internal speakers keep working. I searched for other forums but could not find a solution although many people seem to have this problem.

Ubuntu :: Laptop Speakers Ok / But External Speakers Not Recognized

Feb 17, 2010

I recently installed Kubuntu 9.04 Jaunty on my buddy's laptop. It's working alright, except when we try to plug the external computer speakers into the sound jack in the front, there is no change; it keeps playing through the onboard speakers. My friend and I are getting pretty frustrated because we use those speakers to watch movies with, and the onboard speakers aren't sufficient. If I need to provide any other info, let me know and I'll do so.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: ALC272 - Speakers Don't Work At All

Dec 26, 2010

I rebuild ALSA twice, got the latest stable version, installed the one from ubuntu-audio-dev, but nothing. The output from alsa-info.sh can be found here: [URL] I have this Toshiba and the sound device is just completely messed up and partly depends on if I have headphones plugged into the machine when booting it up: Then sometimes everything (Microphone, Headphone, Speakers) works fine. But other times the speakers do not work at all then only the headphones. If I have the headphone not plugged in than in 75% of cases (roughly) the speakers won't go mute when I plug the headphones in.

The microphone(s) is the biggest concern as I need the computer to use Skype. Obviously I would want the jack to work... They sometimes respond when booted, but other times not. They more often work when the microphone jack is plugged in, but fail after a little while, then sometimes they don't work at all. It frustrating, I have tried various models of the ALC272 driver, but none works for this machine.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Getting Speakers / Earphones To Work With IDJC

Dec 4, 2010

I can listen through my earphones and speakers - problem free, until I start my internet radio with IDJC and JACK control. Within IDJC, it will let me hear the output of the stream - but I can't hear the sound from any other application (Chrome, Movie Player, etc). IDJC works with JACK control. I'm pretty sure it's JACK control that's not letting me hear out of any other application. Any ideas to make it work?

Slackware :: Audio HDA Intel 13.1 MacBook External Speakers Only?

Dec 4, 2010

I thought it was a driver issue, but after messing around with the ALSA mixer a lot, it turned out that when I enabled headphones(or disabled, honestly not sure) that my headphones worked, and when I took them out the speakers worked. Then when I rebooted for whatever reason, only the speakers(built-in) worked. Really, I'm not sure why this is.

When I got them to work there was a switch for the headphones in the graphical mixer(which is what I used, not the ncurses[?] ALSA thing), but I can't seem to find that anymore. It's not a major issue, it just puts me off watching videos and listening to music because my laptop speakers are really low quality. I'd go out to buy a pair of external speakers, but obviously with the audio jack not working, this could be problematic.

I guess I could buy USB external speakers but then the probability of Slackware having pre-installed audio drivers for a cheap generic brand of speakers is so low it doesn't justify the effort of going and buying some, nor the money that would be spent. Willing to enter any commands/w.e. I'll be on Slackware all the time 'cause I need a Linux system right now.

Fedora :: Route Line-in Audio For Output To External Speakers

Jan 29, 2010

i'm running fedora 12 on a dell dimension 4600. audio seems to work reasonably well for things like flash animation but i cannot for the life of me figure out how to route line-in audio through the system for output to my external speakers. on the sound preferences application on the gnome desktop: if i select the hardware tab and analog stereo input is selected, then i go to the input tab and have analog line-in selected, i see the v-u meter above moving around as though there is actually an input. [list]

but, i hear no sound. the output tab shows "dummy output" with no other choices. to get audio working for videos and other flash sites, i have to change to hardware->analog surround 5.0 output. such documentation as i have been able to find doesn't seem to describe my setup well, and in any case, i find all this fidgeting with hardware configurations an immense step back from the old alsa software. if this is going to be the future of linux audio, can i say, please, no?

Ubuntu :: No Sound On Line-out Speakers Work

May 19, 2010

I just bought a new Dell Studio 15. It's not such an easy ride with Lucid apparently, the broadcom wireless driver sometimes fails, and there is no sign of any bluetooth on ubuntu. But the main annoyance at the moment is that no sound is coming through the line-out.

When I plug my headphones in, the speakers go silent as they are supposed to do. But I can't hear anything in my headphone. I do have two headphone-line-outs on this laptop, but it's the same effect on both.Does anyone have an idea? I searched the forum, tried installing gnome alsa mixer, but everything seems to be unmuted.

I am having issues on playing music in Linux (Ubuntu 10.10). I installed windows and linux on my macintosh computer. windows and linux are not on virtual machines and they are directly installed on my hard drive and have their own disk partitions. When i am on linux, the speakers on my mac does not work with linux. I suspect that the sound driver may not be compatible, but i am not sure. When I stuck in the bootcamp cd into windows the disk took out windows driver called "realtek audio" and replace it with sigmatel audio and/or cirrus audio. Also i was wondering if their was some cd like bootcamp for linux to make sure all the proper drivers are installed so then it works on my macintosh?
