I'm running the live 6.0.1 dvd in my Toshiba Satellite laptop and all is working fine except the sound only plays thru the built in speakers. I can't get it to run out the headphone outlet to a set of external speakers.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI looked around the settings on Ubuntu and I cannot prevent sound from being played on my laptop speakers when external (more powerful) speakers are plugged in. Windows automatically defers all sound output to the external ones as soon as it is plugged in.

My problem is that I can not hear any sound from my laptop's internal speakers (that works f9 in windows--so no h/w probs!) but when I connect external headphones, everything is heard.I have tried several commands from various internet sources since past one week. I don't understand many of the commands that I have run, but that has somehow helped me to run media files and hear sound on HEADPHONES.

I looked at the propriatory drives and it isn't there my sound card is a Realtek High Definition Stereo ALC260 can anyone Help. I am running ubuntu 9.04 64-bit 2.6.28-13 on an MSi GX620.
I recently installed Kubuntu 9.04 Jaunty on my buddy's laptop. It's working alright, except when we try to plug the external computer speakers into the sound jack in the front, there is no change; it keeps playing through the onboard speakers. My friend and I are getting pretty frustrated because we use those speakers to watch movies with, and the onboard speakers aren't sufficient. If I need to provide any other info, let me know and I'll do so.

Sound works through headphones but not through speakers. After trying for hours googling and different snd-hda-intel options in the /etc/modprobe. d/ alsa-base.conf file with no success I decided to reload deb.There is probably some snd-hda-intel option I havent tried yet to get what I need on this machine, or perhaps I'm just missing something all together.As stated sound works through headphone jack. I've gone into the system settings and there is no "speaker" or similar output device to select. I found many people report with the C210 that using Code: Select alloptions snd-hda-intel model=generic worked for them, but has not worked for me.
Current alsa-base.conf file reads (after format/reload)

I've dedicated most of today attempting to get some sound out of my Debian Lenny installation and I'm getting nowhere. I've tried a varity of potential solutions and still no peep from the machine. I'm using ALSA (and ran the 'alsaconf' utility with no errors and then used 'alsamixer' confirming that the volumne is set and not muted) for sound playback but nothing works?!? View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed debian wheezy on my Acer laptop (5830tg) and everything worked fine. then a couple of months ago, I replaced my internal hdd with a bigger one, and moved the working old drive in a usb enclosure, so now i boot debian from usb, and keep windows on the internal. The problem is that when i boot from usb I get no audio from the speakers, just from headphones, but if i connect the hdd to the internal sata bay it works like a charm.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an acer timelinex 5830tg notebook. After weeks of frustration, i finally have a linux setup that is stable. Thank god for debian. I don't know why I mess with anything else. Anyway, i'm unable to get my built in laptop speakers to work. I get sound through headphone jack, and I hear sound coming from the built in speakers for a split second when plugging in/unplugging my AC adaptor.Let me know if there is any other output needed, which may assist in this issue. Hopefully someone can help me out.

This may be a bit late for the OP, but I thought to post here, as this thread seems to surface when googling for Audiohub problems. I had this roughly 10-20 Hz ticking/popping constant noise as well, and it seems to be related to the fact that the speakers are connected through a USB hub, not directly.
After experimenting a bit with the kernel USB configuration, the noise went away when I unselected
USB_EHCI_ROOT_HUB_TT and USB_EHCI_TT_NEWSCHED at "Device drivers - USB support - EHCI HCD". I think it is the latter option that made the difference. This was on kernel 2.6.25.4. Although marked experimental, both seem to be selected on Arch kernel26. On older kernels (2.6.20-2.6.24) you may have to select USB_EHCI_SPLIT_ISO, but there I am just guessing.
The hardware volume knob still does nothing (I don't think there is a hardware mixer, probably it just tries to communicate the volume changing request to the computer). Does anyone have idea how to make this work, it's kind of sad to have one and not be able to use it?
I am using Dell Vostro 1520 with Debian Lenny installed. My problem is that I am getting sound through both my headphone and laptop speakers. But it works fine in Windows XP.

I've been having problems with audio not working through the speakers since I upgraded to Jessie. I did a fresh install, the same hardware worked out of the box on Wheezy. Audio does work through the headphones - searching Google results in a LOT of similar issues on various distros, but none of the suggestions I've found have worked. Pulseaudio is not installed.
Alsamixer shows that the speakers are un-muted, and toggling the headphone auto-mute in case that was causing problems doesn't work. lsmod shows that snd_hda_codec_hdmi is loaded and in use - could it be trying to send sound via HDMI? Odd, because this laptop does not have an HDMI port. Blacklisting that module doesn't seem to make a difference however.
When I suspend my computer, everything resumes fine... but the sound. The sound actually still works for the internal speakers, but not anymore for any jack-plugged headset or speakers. If I reboot, it works again. I also see nothing in the logs (dmesg, /var/log/messages).
These two commands return the same thing before and after resuming:

As it was recommended a lot when I googled it, but it seems that the alsa bin/script is not available on debian. It tells me repeatedly to install alsa-base, which was already installed. The following commands have been run one after the other, in that order:

How to prevent me from rebooting each time I need sound after suspending my computer?
I have an external USB Sound Card (Audiophile Fubar II DAC) that worked flawlessy up to one or two months ago when suddenly it stopped to make any sound. The card, speakers, etc. are working, I tried it from another OS running on the very same PC. The card is detected, but it's dumb

The card appears under System->Preferences->Sound->Hardware but there are two unusual things (if I remember correctly). 1. The green sound card icon on the left is not shown, it's not gray, there is nothing (but the USB Headset, that works well, doesn't have the icon either so maybe it'ok).
2. From the Profiles dropdown I can only choose from four options (off, analog mono, analog stereo and digital duplex). Before there were more (digital output only, etc.).I checked the levels several times. Another external USB card (SB Xi-Fi 5.1) works well.
I don't know what I did but I lost all audio. I'm running F15 with gnome 3. By opening system settings and then sound I don't find anything muted. Under hardware I have 3 devices, the first is RS880 Audio Device (Radeon HD 4200) this one has no sound at all when I click test speakers. Then I have quickcam comm STX and then I have Internal Audio which works by clicking on test speakers.. I have no clue of where to start to fix this but reinstall everything again.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis problem presented itself upon upgrading to ubuntu 9.10. Any time something affects the sound system the buzz goes away. If a song plays, no buzz. If I simply adjust or mute the volume, no buzz. But after 10 seconds of no sound related activity, the buzz returns. This is a very loud and aggravating buzz, most likely made worse by the fact that I run my sound through an amplifier.

I have 10 dell 980s with centos 5.5 final on a closed network (I can't connect them to the internet).The internal speaker works but anything plugged into the front or back jack doesn't work.

it only occurs on one HD it has ext4 file system just like the other external HD I have and the disk is healthy. It does mount with no problem at my netbook using ubuntu.
