Ubuntu Multimedia :: Error With Memorex 24x External DVD Recorder, Using K3b
Jul 26, 2010
I have a Memorex 24x External DVD Recorder model MRX-550LE v1. It plays DVDs and CDs but I can't get it to burn in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. I have used this at Church to transfer the recording to a DVD, with Ubuntu 8.4 LTS. I have attached the debug report from K3b.

Is there a Sound Recorder like the Total Recorder for Windows? Someone told me to use Audacity, but Audacity recorded the mic input (e.g. the net radio sound through the speakers together with the noise of the room). Maybe I just cannot find the right settings.

What desktop screen recorders are there? I've tried Istanbul and gtk, and they didn't work on my computer. The other problem is they don't output into a format that can be used on other platforms. At the moment, I need to use BSR in the Windows side of my computer.

Just installed Natty and always used Sound Recoder to directly record as mp3 files on previous Ubuntu versions. I forgot what you have to do to get mp3 added to the option list on Sound Recorder. Can someone tell me what has to be done so Sound Recorder will again save all my recordings as mp3 files?

I've recently purchased the Zoom R16 Recorder, which can be used as an audio interface.Unfortunately there is no linux drivers available, but I'm hoping that there's something I can do to make it work. Is there anybody in here who has any experience with the R16 and Linux or knows how to fix the problem?

I am a Mac user who has been using Audio Hijack Pro for many years. I use it to record radio shows from the station I work at. One of the nice features is that it has a built in scheduler that I use to record shows at different times and dates.[URL]

I love new Ubuntu 10.10. However, despite my best efforts, I cannot make sound recorder/skype work. That is, microphone would not simply record any sound. My mother board is Asus M2N68-AM.

I'm happily using recordmydesktop-gtk. What I can't figure out is if it's possible to record other then sounds from microphone even system's sounds. For instance, if I start recording while a video is playing in totem I would like to record video sound too. Otherwise if I'm recording some action with windows or programs I would like to record warning/error sound too.

I've installed PulseAudio Volume control and selected monitor of internal analog stereo. Background: I'm digitizing an old record. I used Sound Recorder to make FLACs of each side of the LP, and now I need to edit them down to individual tracks. I'm using the development version of Ubuntu 10.04.
Problem: Audacity ignores these FLAC files when I attempt to import or open them.
The FLAC files play if I hover the mouse over them in GNOME.
Audacity gladly imports FLAC files I ripped from CD last year (using Sound Juicer I think).
But when I try to do the same for my recorded FLAC files, nothing happens. I tried running audacity in a terminal window, and there is no additional output when I attempt the import. This comes out when I start it:
Code:
bt_audio_service_open: connect() failed: Connection refused (111)
bt_audio_service_open: connect() failed: Connection refused (111)
bt_audio_service_open: connect() failed: Connection refused (111)
bt_audio_service_open: connect() failed: Connection refused (111)
Expression 'stream->capture.pcm' failed in 'src/hostapi/alsa/pa_linux_alsa.c', line: 3653
Looking at the file properties, they're basically the same except the Juicer-generated file has values filled in for title, artist, album, year. They are all FLAC Stereo 44100 Hz. I thought it might be a file-size problem, so I made a 5-second test with Sound Recorder, and that also refuses to import.
So, why do only the ripped files work with Audacity?

I want to record a streaming-audio (not capture), to use an alarm sound. I opened up gnome-sound-recorder, but I don't see input drop-down menu. I tried Audacity, but it's missing the menu, too.I saw the specification sheet of my laptop, but it only says Mobile Intel GS45 Express Chipsets, I'm not sure if it manages sound, too, but the sheet doesn't have any information about sound chip set.dd: It seems like I can't change this to 'solved'. I cannot say it is solved, as I don't yet see the drop-down menu in gnome-sound-recorder, but with PulseAudio I can perform the task, so it can be regarded as solved?

Mplayer can remove the distortion but it can only view the webcam, not record to file. Mencoder can record, but not view. But I need to view and record simultaneously (sigh). ...

Have a Seagate 1TB HDD inside an Antec MX1 case. Never given me any problems. Last night I was trying out mkvtoolnix on a .m4v rip. After mkvtoolnix did its thing I tried to move the new file back to the external. I got an error. "There was an error while moving file ***" Now the Seagate won't let me copy or move any files outside of that folder.
All's I can figure out for sure is this: I had the Seagate plugged into a USB port that apparently is failing. While trying to figure out what was wrong, I unmounted the Seagate, unplugged it from the USB port, and plugged the wireless mouse receiver into the same USB port. The mouse doesn't work. It does work on all the other ports.
Some of the rips have weird symbols instead of the "dot" between filename and the "m4v" or "mkv" extension. It appears to my uneducated eye that the folder's been corrupted. Or maybe permissions?
So I took the Seagate to another Ubuntu PC. The Seagate still refuses to let go of any rips in the "Rips" folder. I plugged in another external HDD so I could compare permissions. When I right-click and go into Properties, both drives say Permissions could not be determined, but the second external HDD "just works" while the Seagate is balled up.
This seems a little dumb, but since I'm not a Linux guru I go for the easy ideas - I also pulled the Seagate 1TB drive out of the one enclosure and tried it in another enclosure. Made no difference.

A few days back, I was moving a file from my home directory to a 1TB WD external hard drive (NTFS). In the middle of the process, the power went out so moving was interrupted. Now, the file I was trying to move is there on the external hard drive, but it can not be read, moved, renamed or removed. Besides, the destination folder on the external hard drive and all other files in it can be read, but they can't be removed or renamed.
