The background is this: My birthday is fast approaching, and I always try to do something to remember the best birthday gift I ever received, that being the Apollo 11 mission; Neil and Buzz landed on my 12th birthday.
Anyway, I have a wagonload of audio from nasa.gov and would like to schedule the MP3s to play in real time. 'at' won't do it, at least with 'mplayer'; I've tried. I suspect that because there is no controlling terminal for jobs run under 'at', the audio has no place to go. Is there some way to get a controlling terminal for these audio playback jobs, or specify a destination to some player?
Is there any software for Linux that functions like Internet Radio Recorder and captures audio? If so, how come I cannot find anything in the Arch (ArchBang) repositories (seeing as though both distros use the same package manager and repos)?

I would think that there would be something out there that I can use and hopefully someone on this forum can shed some light on this for me. I am seriously thinking of switching over to Ubuntu full time and this is the only thing that is preventing me to do so. Too bad because I hear so many good things about Linux, and so far I really like it.

Q-See will soon be shipping the QSPD4104 video/audio capture card that can capture both video and audio from 4 camera/microphone combos. (They also have the QSPD4114 with 16 a/v inputs) Is there surveillance software that can record both video and audio from multiple camera/microphone combos?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi have an hp pavilion dv7 and am using f13 64bit. my laptop has a built in woofer underneath that i have never been able to get to work. after the latest kernel update today my laptop now has woofer sound. there must be some new support for my laptops audio card. the problem is that it is a little overbearing. how can i a) disable this feature b) tweak the parameters like crossover frequency or gain? edit: i checked the changelog for 2.6.34 and couldn't find any info on any new audio support features.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm having problems mounting an Edirol R-09HR digital audio recorder (as a USB drive, to read the recording files) on a system running openSUSE 11.2. fdisk or other partitioning tools recognize the device as a "W95 FAT32" drive with a filesystem code of 0b, apparently. I was under the impression that mounting this as a vfat file system should work, but the mount command dies complaining "FAT: bogus number of reserved sectors" and "VFS: Can't find a valid FAT file system." This happens even with a freshly formatted card in the recorder. The device mounts properly with Windows XP systems and late-model Ubuntu/Kubuntu systems, Any clews as to what I'm doing wrong here?

View 5 Replies View RelatedBackground: I'm digitizing an old record. I used Sound Recorder to make FLACs of each side of the LP, and now I need to edit them down to individual tracks. I'm using the development version of Ubuntu 10.04.
Problem: Audacity ignores these FLAC files when I attempt to import or open them.
The FLAC files play if I hover the mouse over them in GNOME.
Audacity gladly imports FLAC files I ripped from CD last year (using Sound Juicer I think).
But when I try to do the same for my recorded FLAC files, nothing happens. I tried running audacity in a terminal window, and there is no additional output when I attempt the import. This comes out when I start it:

Looking at the file properties, they're basically the same except the Juicer-generated file has values filled in for title, artist, album, year. They are all FLAC Stereo 44100 Hz. I thought it might be a file-size problem, so I made a 5-second test with Sound Recorder, and that also refuses to import.
So, why do only the ripped files work with Audacity?
I have Ubuntu Lucid Lynx installed on my Acer 5738 laptop.
I am unable record sound using the Sound Recorder. I am unable to do any voice chat.
My microphone is not muted.
It has never been working in any previous ubuntu releases for me.
Anyone know a good screen recorder than can record OpenGL games with little or no lag? All the ones I've come across are old and won't compile on newer versions of Ubuntu.

Each user gets their own monitor, keyboard, mouse & perhaps audio. The rest of the machine resources are then shared.

whenever i try to record a video with gtk screen recorder it starts lagging and when the video is over and you wanna watch it there is a major sound and video lag and nothing is as it should be (could the desktop effects be the issue)?
