This is just an idea, and I want to know if it can be done. Could I set up Nautilus so that videos and songs have their durations shown in the filename? For example, let's say I have a video of me shooting targets. There would be an icon, and the filename underneath would say: "Range trip 2009.flv - 8:23"
Is there currently a way to do this?
how to get the display to the TV so I can watch movies. I have a Compaq Presario V5000 laptop, AMD Sempron processor, and an ATI Radeon Xpress 200M card. I have been using this successfully on Windows XP, but would prefer to get my feet wet more with Ubuntu.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed lucid on my laptop with a second screen. Unfortunately, I cannot display any video. Neither on the laptop screen nor on the second external screen. In contrast, rebooting without attaching the external screen allows me to display videos again.
I never experienced this kind of behavior with Ubuntu 9.10.

I have an iso image I'm mounting-
# mount -o loop /root/image.iso /media/cdrom in SLES10 (and SLES9), "mount" displays the name of the iso file:
# mount
...
/root/image.iso on /media/cdrom type iso9660 (rw,loop=/dev/loop0)
However, in SLES11, "mount" now displays the loop device rather than the filename:
# mount
...
/dev/loop0 on /media/cdrom type iso9660 (rw)
This is somewhat less than useful. Is there any way to display the filename rather than the loop device?
I've been dual booting Lenny and Squeeze but after replacing Lenny with a fresh Squeeze using ext4, the video display has been strange. The effect is similar to running a live CD, where a click does nothing for a few seconds while the CD winds up and gets to the application, but slower than that. Sometimes the display has patches of several windows all mixed up, zig zag patterns like a TV that is too far from a transmitter to receive a good signal and sometimes the mouse freezes in moving around. When I boot and don't start X, everything works perfectly, no delays, no messed up windows.
My video is ATI x1300 with Radeon driver. What is the best way to get the system to use only vesa, to see if that works, instead of ati or radeon? is possible to use grub.cfg or /etc/defaults/grub or /etc/grub.d/ ? I couldn't find any reports of problems with Xorg used by Squeeze, so it seems to be the ATi driver or the radeon driver.
I use natty 64 bit. I installed a HD 4870. Installed the drivers according to instruction on [URL]. I ran aticonfig --initial. Still I get "Cannot Display This video Mode" after the grub screen, during boot up. Monitor preferences applet doesn't seem to work, either - it won't detect the monitor parameters EDID thing.
When I try to open the Catalyst Control Centre I get:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for some pointers on a method to "transfer" the song-playing from my laptop to my PC, both running ubuntu. The use case is: I'm home listening to some song on the laptop. Then I realize how crappy the speakers are. Here's what I do *now*:
1. Stop playback on the laptop
2. Get up, go to the PC, open the music player
3. Find the same song
4. Try to find the same point in the song
5. Stop playback on the laptop
6. Start playback on the PC (the PC has good speakers)
Of course now I'm dreaming of having a "button" I push that does all this all by itself. Can anyone give me some pointers?
I have a HP Compaq nx9010 laptop with 1 gig of memory and 128mb being dedicated to video memory. The graphics chip is ATI Radeon IGP 345M.
I can only set my resolution to 1024 X768. If I try to change it to any other size or try to play any games, the video has millions of jerky horizontal lines going through it. If I hookup an external monitor the video works just fine. Being new to linux and even newer to installing on it laptops, can anyone tell me what if any thing can be done to correct this. I am running Ubuntu 10.4 LTS.

And why isn't this implemented in SoundConverter?

i used to edit the mp3 song details such as artist, title, song number details and the album art in windows, i edited the same in UBUNTU using the "easy tag" but the album art is not visible when i transfer the song to my NOKIA phone as well as the artist details are not available when i am playing the songs in windows machine.

Banshee gave me no warning, and the trash is empty. I'm assuming there's a command I can use to recover the file, but as I'm a complete noob, I need some assistance.

I do not want something that will find the information online. I want to have total control over that including the ability to do global changes on songs as well as one by one changes.
Right now I am trying out Kid3-qt and Ex Falso but don't quite know if I am using them properly.
I also tried Sound Juicer but I am not sure if it is really tagging properly when importing audio CD's.
Any other recommendations, and/or videos on how to use these utilities?
I used to open Rhythmbox and click on the playlist. Then I typed a song's name and the chosen song would appear highlighted on the playlist.
However, since I upgraded to Maverick when I repeat that same procedure Rhythmbox will search for an artist containing whatever I typed instead of a song's title containing it.
I want the old feature back. I don't know if I'm being clear...
I'm sure I've seen in a player the option to play only first minute of songs in a playlist, but cannot remember which one that was.

View 1 Replies View Relatedok on my new laptop, banshee deletes songs other then the ones I told it to. I highlite a song or 2 I want to remove from a playlist, rightclick select remove from playlist and some seemingly randome other song is removed and the one I selected is left there.
what could cause this, am I the only one affected and is there a solution, for the moment I am using rythembox to play music.
I would prefer to use banshee as it plays nicer with my mp3 player then any other program I have tried.
I'm looking into getting an ok microphone for guitar, song and speech, to use with Ubuntu. It's for hobby use, so I don't need the best microphone, just something that is good and will work in Ubuntu. Any recommendations? Should I get an USB one, or just a normal one and use my built in sound card?

I'm listening to a song and it plays all the way through, but when its done it doesnt play the next song. I can select a new song but when I do, it freezes. i'm using an HPG71 if that helps.

After a fresh boot the first few songs I play with Banshee or Rhythmbox (only used for testing if Banshee was the issue) the songs start to be played badly distored. Like the sound is only being played in very short bursts with gaps between them.
If I restart Banshee the music will usually resuming playing fine for a couple of songs and then the issue repeats. If system load is high the number of songs before the issue appears decreases (as low as 0).
I've attached the output of the alsa-info.sh as I see 90+% of audio issue threads ask for that file in the first reply
As far as i know VLC is the best media player for linux bc it suppurts all file types. But there is one anoying problem - when i want to listen to song it opens VLC, but when i open another song it opens another new VLC window. And this problemug or whatever didnt apear in Windows version VLC player.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSome (very few) mp3 files on my hard drive seem to self-report incorrect (much too long) lengths to audio players. I mostly use Amarok, but I've verified that the problem also occurs with other audio players. The files play just fine, but it's annoying that they're listed with incorrect length. Most of my mp3s are encoded using VBR, but I can't imagine that that's a problem ... and if it were, it would be occurring with a lot more files, I'd think.I'm guessing there's a problem with the file header itself on these files. Is there some way I can check this and correct it, if that is the problem? A quick check through Synaptic didn't turn anything useful-looking up, and neither did a search through these forums.

Normally in my music collection, I have some songs that are the same song, just in a different album. When transferring files onto my MP3 player, if it detects the same name for the song, even though they are on different albums, it says that I have to either replace the file, retry, or cancel.

Now I can't change to a new song or go back to the previous one by using the mouse wheel over the rhythmbox icon in the task bar like I could in the previous release. I couldn't find an option for it in the plugins or preferences neither. Is there a way to get this back?
