Ubuntu Multimedia :: 9.10 - No Response From Flash
Mar 11, 2010
When I go to, say ..... or even speedtest.net the flash there is almost unusable. Mouse over interaction works perfectly. However, when you click on something (say a play button) its a complete crapshoot. Sometimes it works, some times you have to click dozens (often more) of times before it will respond. I had an older install of 9.10 (granted it was a while ago and I believe it was 32bit) and I don't ever remember having this issue and I just removed an openSUSE install that I know didn't have this issue. So far my only attempts to fix this would be the remove --purge of the restricted extras pack and reinstalling it. I have also tried installing flash through the Software Center. This particular issue exists in both Firefox and Chrome and I'm not too sure what to make of it. On boot, for some reason, my main volume is always turned all the way down and muted.

when I try to access any page even small html pages it stays like 3 seconds in HTTP request sent; waiting for response. state..even when I use Lynx locally on the server..bypassing any possible network issues..logs dont show a thing..the server itself is a high end server with nothing running on it apart from apache which is not serving anny clients now, firewall is disabled and hostnamelookups are set to OFF.

I am having some issues with the typing speed in gedit. When typing the response is usually really slow,It can be up to a second or so between rendering keystrokes. I don't believe it has anything to do with resources. I have checked the processes running when it happens and everything looks pretty normal cpu usuage is also very low at the time. The system is very responsive with everything else at the time.
I only have this problem with gedit, gvim, vim, nano etc are fine. Maybe an issue with a GTK lib of some sort? The problem happens with very small files like little bash scripts. I have including some info about the system ...

I use the debootstrap to make a base Debian System of the ARM architecture for BananaPro ... , and install the LXDE desktop. But the keyboard and mouse didn't response after the LXDE boot.
If I use the Debian system without the LXDE desktop, and it is normal. Meanwhile, I only installed the framebuffer driver, and can't find the right GPU driver to install.
Is caused by the lack of the GPU driver ? and what should i do ?

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 AMD64 beta. After installing the flash player, everything worked fine. I installed a few updates, as well as Ubuntu Stuido from the synaptic package manager, and when I rebooted, I can't hear any sound from flash content displayed in Fire Fox. All other sounds work fine, and I made another user account as a test, and that account has full audio functionality, including flash...

i've looked at serveral post all over the net but still can't get subtitles (.str files) to bind with the stream on mediatomb.
Mediatomb works fine with out the subtitle transcoding profile, but when added and mediatomb is restarted using sudo /etc/init.d/mediatomb restart I get the response "Fail" and Mediatomb will not start. If I change <transcoding enabled="yes"> to "no" then mediatomb works fine

i was using ubuntu 09.10 and everything worked fine. when i upgrated to the new version, i had no sound using videos.i installed the version flash 10 and flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound from package manager and the problem was fixed for a few days. suddenly, i had no sound again. other sound applications work properly.i checked the plugins of mozilla and discovered that the shockwave flash version was 9.0 r31! however, the package manager says that the 10 version is installed!i tried to upgrade the version of the plugin. it sends me to a link of adobe where i can download a tar.gz file. i follow the instructions:
<installation instructions for tar.gz1. click the download link to begin installation. a dialog box will appear asking you where to save the file.2. save the .tar.gz file to your desktop and wait for the file to download completely.3. unpackage the file. a directory called install_flash_player_10_linux will be created.4. in terminal, navigate to this directory and type ./flashplayer-installer to run the installer. click enter. the installer will instruct you to shut down your browser(s).5. once the installation is complete, the plug-in will be installed in your mozilla browser. to verify, launch mozilla and choose help > about plug-ins from the browser menu.>when i open the tar.gz file, i only see a file named libflashplayer.so, which is extracted as such. no match with the previous instructions and as a result i cannot follow them to install that file.

Another post regarding the Firefox/Flash issue on Ubuntu 10.04 ... My main question is that I don't understand why Flash in Firefox (Huffington Post videos of The Daily Show) works differently on two computers that are identically configured (but cf. below):
- both have Firefox 3.6.3;
- within Firefox aboutlugins, all plugins with "flash" are the same;
- within Synaptic, all things that have "mozilla", "flash", "adobe" are identically installed on both (that includes Adobe Flash plugin Version 10.1.53.64ubuntu0.10.04.1)
The only difference is that the computer where it works is a 64bit system, the one where it doesn't work is a 32bit system. Can this be true, that this is the thing that makes this huge difference? Any fixes around for that (other than FlashAID)?

Recently in the course of normal nightly updates my Firefox got updated to a newer version. I believe that it was a security update, so I don't really want to roll back to an earlier version (I went from 3.5.x to 3.6.8), but I am having some issues with the current version. One of the more annoying issues is that a previous bug that was fixed has resurfaced, and now the prior solution no longer works. The only way I can left-click within Flash and have it work is by holding down the right mouse button at the same time as I click. Previously I was able to get around this with this fix:
....
That line is still there, and I even tried reinstalling flash (using the FLASH-AID plugin someone on these boards wrote), but nadda. The problem does not exist in free standing flash applications and flash running in Chrome works fine, and it worked fine in Firefox before the upgrade.

whenever i use flash, e.g streaming a video on videos, the computer logs off (although it also closes all the windows so may be actually restarts).
when i log back on the sound also doesn't work, i have to reboot for it to come back on.
i'm sure this is to do with the flash-plugin and not the browser as i have tried many different browsers with the same result.

I can't get flash controls to work. If the video auto-plays, it starts just fine, if not, I'm out of luck. I've tried reinstalling flash through the software center. Even if it autoplays, I can't control volume or pause or anything. I'm at the mercy of whatever is already there. Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 - all updated as of 1/2/2009 Firefox 3.5.6 On a Lenovo Thinkpad R400
It has never worked. About to pull my hair out and/or reinstall Ubuntu Completely since no one else seems to have to problem.

I've been trying to get my webcam microphone working in flash on Kubuntu 9.10.I have a Logitek Pro 9000, and video and audio work in other applications (skype), but video is all that works in flash (I have flash 10 installed). In the flash settings, it lists the only microphone option as "Linux Microphone", which does nothing. This seems to be a common problem, with a few solutions offered.
One I've tried, which seems fairly straightforward for gnome users, is here. However, whenever I run pavucontrol, I get an error reading "Connection failed: Connection refused".Does anyone know how to either get pulseaudio open, or how to get the microphone working in flash without it?

I need to implement a company-wide policy on "adobe flash player settings".Each individual can visitmanager07.html and change their settings, but that's far from ideal.I suspect I could get somewhere by locking down permissions on temp directories, but I wonder if there is a more elegant way?

But I DONT have that file. I have searched for hours and hours. I can rightclick on the player and get to its options, but left clicking doesnt work

LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/nphelix.so [/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/nphelix.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32]

if i rename my .mozilla folder and start a new profil, firefox will start but crash if you click on a flash video or whatever. moreover I relly need my profile, stored passwords, bookmarks. this is probably a crazy flash problem again but please do not redirect me to ... this is a bug in 10.04 as it worked in 9.10 before and I would feel very uncomfortable to install some unmaintained random files the very first day I use a LTS version .
any ideas how to get firefox working (even without flash as flash works in opera without problems).(and no, I will not create a bugreport in the launchpad; there are already sooo many about flash and flash64 adding just a new one will not help anybody and i am just trying to get firefox started)
