I think I'm being attacked by a hacker: The mouse changes its position on the desktop, some windows fire and come to the front without a call, the address bar of the FireFox is hidden. Is there anything that can be done? I think the hacker works at a distro that i used some time ago.

I have done this before, but that was a while ago and I can't remember what settings to change in about:config.Currently, when I type something that is not a url, it performs a search and then automatically opens the first web page that it finds, like a "I'm feeling lucky" search. I tried the "rpm", the "yum", and the "tar.gz" from the adobe site. Both rpms installed fine but I still can't view flash content in Firefox (missing plugin). The .tar.gz contained a .so file, but the installation instructions for the flash player said I should see an installer file in the .tar.gz, but I do not. I can't believe I can't even get flash player working. Their instructions said to check under "Help > About Plugins" but obviously Firefox does not and has never had such an option. I hate Adobe.

Whenever I open any website having flash content, firefox shows missing plugin symbol and message.
Unfortunately far for all unicode characters can be displayed in Fedora by default, (much less than in M$ Wnd). There is a tool that aim to find and install missing fonts when an non-displayable character appears, but it starts mainly when I accidentally open non-text file in terminal and never when a web-page I open in Mozilla Firefox (or Konqueror) contains such kind of characters. So, I see a rectangle with hexadecimal number of character in it (or simply empty rectangle in case of Konqueror) and don't know if there is a easy way to see it by installing missing font automatically (or manually at last) for range of this character or a way to install complete font collection to display all unicode characters from all ranges.

Linux with Firefox In order to connect to a network share directly from you browser under Linux, you must configure Firefox to handle URL's starting with "smb://". This is done by typing "about:config" in the address line and hitting return. After that you must right-click the list of settings and choose "New -> Boolean" as shown below.
As name you must type: "network.protocol-handler.external.smb" with a value of "true". After that you must do the same thing over again, but this time choose "New -> String", type the name: "network.protocol-handler.app.smb" with a value of the path to the application you wish to use for browsing network shares. Please check that the path /home/david/.evolution/addressbook/local/system exists and that permissions are set to access it.I have checked folders and permissions seem ok. I would like to know if there is any way to get the current URL from the Firefox's address bar on a Linux machine. I know that under Windows I can use the DDE server approach, but under Linux this task is proving very tricky. I've considered an approach involving an extension to Firefox, but this would require the user to install the said extension himself. Which is not something I want. If an extension can be installed by a different program's installer than that could work, but I don't know if that's possible or not.

But it automatically changes to "chrome://browser-region/locale/region.properties" in some hours or the next day and I cannot search using the address bar. I have to change it back again to make it work. This is really annoying.
I have two computers one with Ubuntu Server (just for fun) and another with Ubuntu Desktop. I connected them with one LAN cable so there is no internet and what I want is to open firefox in Ubuntu Desktop and view the apache test page but I can't find IP address, ifconfig just displays the ipv6 one?
View 5 Replies View RelatedSince I updated to Karmic, I noticed a very annoying problem that forces me to restart Firefox every 20 minutes or so: When the cursor is located inside the address bar (CRTL+L), I always type one or two characters, a drop down menu appears with most visited links that contain these characters, I press <down-arrow>, <Enter> and go to one of my usual links. I use this all the time, which allows me to go to me usual links in a second or two. The problem is that this feature stops working after browsing for some time: no drop-down menu appears and pressing the down-arrow does nothing.
The only other problem that happens in coincidence is that you have to click 2 or 3 times on the 'arrow-down' button on the right side of the address bar before you get a drop-down menu with the most visited links (this normally happens on the first click). The problem appears at random moments (typically after some 10 to 20 minutes of browsing, but sometimes earlier) and disappears when I restart FF. I tried clearing the history, but that does not change anything. Does anyone else see this problem and knows how to fix it?

FF 3.5.6, with some add-ons: adblock plus, bugmenot, all-in-one gestures, xmarks and some dictionaries, all working without any problems.
On one of my computers, I installed Lenny with Gnome and installed Firefox without a hitch. Now, on another computer I installed Lenny minimally, no desktop, just the jwm window manager and dual monitors. After installing Firefox, I have a problem.
When I try to run Firefox, it aborts with an error:
"Error while loading shared libraries: libasound.so.2: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory. " I tried to install libasound.so.2 with apt-get, but no luck.
I've noticed that in linux, firefox is missing a bottom border. This makes it impossible to enable/disable tor (via torbutton addon) or 9enable/disable noscript addon). how to either move these two ''buttons'' on a toolbar or to re-enable the bottom border?

open firefox, download and install some plugins/addons that generate menu entries with an icon in front of them.
e.g. "downthemall" (down them all)

there is however space for these icons in the menu. and I can see icons in the bookmark and history menus. (web page favicons)
these icons improve the usability greatly because they offer a visual guide to the menu not only to the item they belong to but also to other items because I know that the item I want is e.g. one above the green triangle.
I have a slightly impaired vision so this a far greater issue to me than you well sighted folks may think. Just put on some glasses with lots of fingerprints on them and you will see the difference.
I recently lost my Min Max and close buttons on pretty much every window. This seemed to start when I upgraded to 10.10. I did what was told in another thread on missing task bars. I managed to get them all back except on Firefox. I tried the preferences, double clicking up there, right clicking.

I am using firefox 5.0 under ubuntu 11.04. I have attached the screenshot of my firefox window. There is no menubar, no title bar, no close, minimize, maximize buttons. I am sure I am not in fullscreen mode.Moving the mouse to the top left corner does not bring out the launcher. Pressing Alt+Tab does not bring out window selection dialog (to switch to another application). I killed firefox from tty1 and restarted firefox. The problem persists.

View 3 Replies View RelatedKubuntu's Network manager says that my (wired) network is in an invalid state because I don't have an IP address, but Firefox and Chorme work perfectly, as do Synaptic and Software Centre, and a Superkaramba network monitor says that my IP is "192.168.1.101" In fact, the only thing that isn't working is Pidgin, and it says it's "Waiting for network connection."
