I'm having difficulty making my FAT32 drive capable of read/write. I followed the instructions here (http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Maverick#Windows_Compatibility) and added the following line to my /etc/fstab file:

However, when I rebooted the drive is still read-only
I installed fedora 12 and windows 7 in pc. i can not access fedora partitions from windows. which software is suitable for this?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a partition to share files between Ubuntu and Windows, sometimes it becomes read-only but it's always reversible, this time it seems completely locked, all folders even have lock symbols and I can't change any file even if I open nautilus as root.
I can use it through windows with no problems, and have tried using PySDM to modify it but it's still the same.
I got tired of dual booting on my old computer so on the new computer I am planning to run XP on VMware Player. The problem is that on the new computer neither Ubuntu or XP can "see" the FAT32 partition. I intend to use the FAT32 partition for photo images and old Windows files and need access from both Ubintu and XP.
Partition table entries are not in disk order.
I'd like to format my USB in 2 partition: one fat32 (for data switch windows/linux and one for only windows. But when I use gparted to partition my stick in my backtrack installation, windows can only read the fat32, but not the ntfs.

sudo ln -s /media/OS/Users/dennis/AppData/Roaming/.minecraft ~/.minecraft
However, I end up with a file in my home directory called .minecraft and when I try to access it, I receive:

I have installed Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit desktop version on ext4 partition without swap. I have maximus iv extreme motherboard with 8 Gbytes RAM. According to my experience it seems to does not matter if hard disk is internal or external connected through SATA II or SATA III or USB 2.0. I have tried to manipulate with ntfspartitions through the vmware or virualbox or truecrypt software or just do a simplecopy/move files - it have has always the same results - freeze. There is not possible to say how long it is going to work properly and when it is going to freeze - sometimes it's working hour, sometimes it's working couple of seconds - no matter if it is read or write operation/s within ntfs partition.
I need some assistance mount a UFS2 partition as read and write. if its not possible, then I may have to copy a few hundred GBs of data. Currently using the command: Code: mount -r -t ufs -o ufstype=UFS2 /dev/sdb /Data Thats just read only.

I haven't used Ubuntu much since 8.10 and it seems that I remember it being much easier to do then. I'm using this partition to store my music, pictures and videos on if that is of any relevance. We have a xfs partition over a hardware RAID that stores our RAW HD Video. Most of the shoots are 50-300gb each so the linux cache has a hit-rate of 0.001%.
I have tryed the sync option but it still fills up the cache when copinging the files. ( about 30x over per shoot :P )

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 using Wubi on an ACER Aspire 5000 XP laptop. Everything runs ok and I can access my Windows folders from Ubuntu through the host directory but only as Read Only. This is my problem: My wife wants me to backup some Windows NTFS partitions on her working computer so she can use them on a different computer.
This is my solution attempt:Boot the Gentoo based System Rescue CD. dd the contents of the data partitions into *.img files on an external usb drive. dd the contents of the *.img files onto the new computer.
So far that worked, but there's one annoying problem: one partition on the work computer is 50GB big, but contains only 8GB of data. It would be really nice if I could just dd out those 8GB of "real data" instead of having a 50GB *.img file that is mostly empty. Likewise, it would be cool if there's an easy way to match the contents of the *.img file to the size of the new partition. The new data partition is 100GB big so it would be cool if my backup were automatically scaled to that size so I don't have an 8GB partition and an additional 92GB partition.
ive been dual booting ubuntu and windows for a while now. For the first time in weeks ive booted windows XP, and i really hate the fact that windows explorer can't read more than the first partitions. Is there a way to make the explorer see more? I want to be able to reach my files on the ubuntu partition from windows, not just the other way
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows 2003 server with fiber attached volumes (NTFS) that I would like to mount readonly on a linux system to back it up to tape. The fiber device will allow me to present the volume R/W to one host and R/O to another, however, the R/O system doesn't see any of the changes made by the R/W server. In other words, how can I make a readonly volume refresh, scan for changes, or update without un/re-mounting it?
Is the "mount -o --bind" option what I want? From the MAN is doesn't seem right... the option "sync" seems slightly more promising but I think I'm just grasping at straws here. The best I have come up with is a cron job to unmount then mount the volume periodically.
I saw a lot of people asking this question on the net and most (if not all) answers points out to disabling journaling on that partition, which is not always a good idea.
So here is 1-2-3 style how to mount HFS+ partition in Ubuntu, so that you are able to write on it:
1) sudo apt-get install hfsplus hfsprogs hfsutils
2) mount -o force -t hfsplus /dev/XXX /mnt/v
I have 13.1 as a dual boot with xp on a 40G hd. There is a 500G hd where I keep all my files, in ntfs format, and I have usb sticks in fat32 and ntfs. When I installed 13.1 I chose read and write access for all users for all of these media. 13.1 will read from them, but will not write to them. How can I fix this?
