Ubuntu Multimedia :: Gimp 2.7 And Python (Import Error - No Module Named Gimp)

Mar 2, 2010

If you had Gimp 2.6 (with gimp-plugin-registry installed) and installed Gimp 2.7 to try its new goodies, but Layer Effects are not showing, and when executing "gimp" from console you get these *nasty* errors:

Code:
This is a development version of GIMP. Debug messages may appear here.
gimp-user-install: migrating from /home/user/.gimp-2.6
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/layerfx.py", line 23, in <module>
import gimp, gimpplugin, math
ImportError: No module named gimp .....

If you haven't install the 2.7 version yet. Before upgrading, backup "python" directory and then just restore it after installing 2.7.

General :: Which Files Are Taking Space To Make The Partition 68% Used

Jun 8, 2011

I have some confusion about one of my partition and the space it is taking. df -h output is given below;

# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/ddf1_ADVDTARTINGp1
494G 18G 452G 4% /

[code]....

above information is showing that /var/lib/mysql partition total size is 379 GB and it is 68% used. However when I execute command du -sh /var/lib/mysql it shows following output.

# du -sh /var/lib/mysql
45G /var/lib/mysql

Now I want to know what files are taking space to make the partition 68% used. I want to list down all files in that partition with size.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Make Digital Camo On Gimp?

Mar 23, 2010

I've been searching for a while now and come up empty handed, but after some research on the history of digital camouflage and how it was created I was able to devise a simple method for creating at least a close approximation of the real thing.

Step 1: start with a picture of the "texture" you intend to use. it doesn't matter if it's a low resolution picture because you are going to intentionally pixelate it

Step 2: use the noise plugin "pick" and create some static in the picture. I've found that you can just set everything to maximum and apply the pick with good results.

Step 3: (optional) if you want this to be a repeating pattern, at this time apply the "make seamless" tool under Map plugins.

Step 4: Apply a pixel blur. dial it in just to where you start to see hard pixel edges forming. In most digital camo patterns, the pixels are taller than they are wide, about a 3:2 ratio

Step 5: Choose the number of colors you want in your camo pattern. Virtually all digital patterns are either three or four colors, but never any more than that. Change the image mode from RGB to 4 color indexed. Then you can change it back to RGB if you wish to change the colors in your camo.

you can play with the settings on each step to dial in something that looks proper. The proper scale for your camo is roughly 1/4" tall pixels. Try playing with different textures, or even non digital camo prints. In about two minutes we've just created both a woodland and a desert digital print that is close enough to pass for MARPAT using free software.

General :: Make All Files Non-executable Recursively Using Find Without Affecting Directories?

Sep 26, 2010

I need to strip the executable flag from all files within a certain directory and sub directories. Right now I'm doing it with a 2 step process

find /dir/ -type f -exec chmod ugo-x {} ;
find /dir/ -type d -exec chmod ugo+rx {} ;

Is it possible to modify the first line so that I can strip exec flag from all non-directory files? Since this needs to be done on a fairly regular basis across a lot of directories and files, I'd prefer not to use a bash script which would slow it down.

Ubuntu :: Gimp Can't Save Png Files?

Dec 1, 2010

like to update it on occasion. Recently I attempted to edit an image locally. I use vbulletin, which relies on png for it's forum icons. When I tried to change the default image for a new one I created using GIMP, I saved it as a *.png file. Yet, when I looked at the saved file - it was actually a *.xcf file (which I've never even heard of before).What gives?ensure it is saved with a png extension when I select png extension, instead of the xcf extension it seems intent on saving as?The image was originally a jpg, if that makes any difference. I can't see as it does though. When I was on Windoze, I used Paint Shop Pro - and if I told it to save a file with a png extension, it amazingly saved it with a png extension

Ubuntu Installation :: Gimp - Gimp-help-en - On 10.04 Lucid Lynx - Installing Other Applications And Preforming System Tasks?

Jun 12, 2010

Some of you may have had with issues after installing GIMP on Lucid Lynx 10.04. Which may be directly related to "gimp-help-en", which could prevent you from installing other applications and preforming system tasks. If so, use this method to fix it.

Process: (Terminal > $ sudo apt-get install gimp)

1. After installing Gimp go to the terminal:

2. Then load up the language support application:

3. Then it will ask you to install the "gimp-help-en", confirm it.

4. Fix'd

I think this issue is directly linked to a systems with multiple languages, but I haven't been able to test this theory out yet.

Ubuntu :: GIMP 2.6.10 Opens Files In New Program Instance?

Aug 18, 2010

I didn't have this problem in GIMP 2.6.8: when I double clicked an image file in Nautilus, the file opened in an existing instance of the GIMP, if it was already running. Now, after I compiled and installed GIMP 2.6.10, a double-clicked file opens into a new instance of the program. The same for files that are dropped on the GIMP icon in the panel. The only way to avoid this behaviour is to switch to the running instance of GIMP and use the Open command.

Ubuntu :: Gimp Batch Process Multiple Files Index To B&W?

Apr 15, 2010

I scanned hundreds of pages in gray scale and would like to batch process them to B&W. You can do this using the gimp GUI. what it does is get rid of all the gray shading from reflections off the paper when scanned. So you get crisp white backgrounds with black text and diagrams. I would like to simply do this to the entire group directory at one time as it would be quite a lot of effort to open them and do them one by one.

Debian Multimedia :: Extremely Slow Loading Of Image Files In GIMP

Jun 16, 2010

I've had this odd, stubborn problem that seems to be related to the nouveau video driver and certain kernel builds: opening or saving full resolution jpeg image files using GIMP takes from 1-5 minutes and causes xorg CPU usage to reach almost 100%.This also occurs when using UFRaw to open Canon raw image files. The problem is not intermittent, it happens each time I open a file. Opening photos in the default image viewer works fine.This bug has vexed me on and off for the last couple of months, and seems to be triggered by a combination of kernel version and the Nouveau driver. I switched to Debian Squeeze from Ubuntu 10.04 because I was experiencing slow image open times in Ubuntu 10.04 (using the Nouveau driver).I did not experience the bug running Squeeze with the nv driver and kernel 2.6.32-3.

I did not have the bug running Squeeze with the nouveau driver and kernel 2.6.32-5 backported from Sid.I began experiencing the bug again after the Squeeze updates on June 14th (still running nouveau and kernel 2.6.32-5). I update daily so it's likely to be that day's updates which caused the bug to reappear.Just for grins, I installed the Liquorix kernel. The bug does not occur using kernel 2.6.34-0.dmz.10-liquorix-686 and the nouveau video driver.I have a Nvidia FX5500 video card. I prefer the nouveau driver to nv as my display seems to behave better. The Nvidia proprietary drivers are not an option because they produce X freezes when I am doing photo editing. The liquorix kernel seems to be working fine, but for long-term stability I'd rather be running a mainline Debian kernel.

Software :: Gimp Build From Source Libtool Error Makefile Edit

Apr 6, 2010

So I've been trying to get GIMP 2.7 installed on my Slackware64 13.0, but I'm having some issues. After some extensive finagling and dependence findings, I got it to configure correctly, however, the make fails with libtool trying to find libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.la:

libtool: link: cannot find the library '..//usr/lib64/pkgconfig/gdk-pixbuf/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.la' or unhandled argument '..//usr/lib64/pkgconfig/gdk-pixbuf/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.la'

libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.la is in /usr/lib64/pkgconfig/, but for whatever reason, editing the makefile doesn't change this. (Yes I have the right permissions to edit it). First of all, why is it searching for /usr in the top build directory, and second, why doesn't an edit of the makefile work?
