I'm testing a beta release of Lubuntu 10.04 on an old laptop and am very impressed. I'm able to autostart applications by adding icons to the ~/.config/autostart directory but have yet to discover where I can autostart command line applications such as xbindkeys and htop.
Which hidden file needs to be edited to autostart xbindkeys and htop? (In openbox I would have edited ~/.config/autostart.sh)
Isn't Lubuntu FAB! And it's very easy to customise...once you know how.

I've got it to the point it will run when you login by adding a line to the /etc/xdg/lxsession/Lubuntu/autostart file. Added "synergyc 111.111.1.11" and it works perfect. So the main question is, how can I add that line somewhere, somehow to start on boot and not by login?

EDIT: NM solved my own question, had to add DISPLAY and XAUTHORITY to the sudoers file.
I recently upgraded from 11.3 to 11.4 succesfully. I had to reinstall several applications and, some of them, can't be configured as default from the control panel (e.g. Opera as default browser, VLC as default media player). The problem is that droplists at the prefered applications don't show any other than the default ones, Firefox and TotemIs there a way I can change these settings via command line or a way to fix what applications are shown at the control panel?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to stop some apps from starting up like bluetooth manager etc but everytime I untick it and then reopen the startup applications preferences it is still ticked!
I also have been trying to get Awn Dock to autostart so I add it and set the command as avant-window-navigator but the next time I reopen it is not there, I have also tried checking the tick under the Awn Dock Preferences - "Start Awn automatically" but this doesn't stick either - all the other setting do though. I have looked in the ~/.config/autostart folder and that has a Padlock on it with the owner as root - should this be the case or should I change permissions on it to myself?

I have (Preferences -> Preferred Applications) in the menu and that lets me set Web Browser and Mail client. I have that set to Chromium, however any links I click open in Opera. I want these to open in Chromium, but I'm not sure how to set that.

When I used ".*" as wildcard it changed all (visible) files including the parent directory (the one I was currently working in which is the "dot") . Ideally it should be able to print C++ code with line numbers, syntax highlighting, multiple columns per page, customizable fonts and sizes and a print preview feature so that I can make sure it looks right before sending it to the printer. It appears that notepad++ had at least some of these features, but it is not available on linux. The best I could do so far is to copy/paste the output of 'cat -n foo.cpp' into oowriter and format it into two colums. I don't get synax highlighting though and I have to manually replace tabs with a few spaces as well as some excessive leading spaces before the line numbering.

About two months ago I upgraded my dual boot Linux-x86-64 Vista from Heron to 10.04 Lucid. Initially everything worked fine including wireless etc. Once I accidentally changed a few /etc permissions which caused a problem, but fixed it going into recovery mode. For the past weeks, I only used the windows. Over the weekend I tried logging into Ubuntu, the gnome would not come up. So, I went into recovery mode and typed "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade" which also went through. However, after that I lost the recovery options. I had used that command very successfully in the past. Right now, I have no command line that would allow me to type something. I was wondering if there are any keys Alt+Del + something that would give me a prompt I can work with. I'm totally baffled as to how this can happen.
