View 3 RepliesI have been looking around the forums searching for similar problems, it seems not only me had this problem. About a month ago I did a regular update via Upd Manager. The next day - no wired connection.Still managable, since the local library has wireless. Now that won't work either.Just after I upgraded from Jaunty, I accidentally removed NetwMngr from the top right corner of the screen, but that should not have anything to do with how the program works, right? I now cannot reach NM, if I run it from the terminal, nothing happens visibly.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently did a fresh install of 10.04 from 9.04 and since then I am unable to use Internet. However my ethernet connection is working fine, as I am able to login to modem and check configuration. I reinstalled twice, downloaded fresh 64-bit & 32-bit and also followed kernel update steps as in few forum posts, but no joy. The firefox is throwing an error "The connection has timed out". My internet connection is working fine as I am able to use my Windows Laptop to post this message. I checked system > administration > hardware drivers and couldn't find any unsupported hardwares.I had similar issue when upgrading to 9.10, hence stayed on 9.04. When I looked at LTS image, I couldn't resist and cleaned up 9.04.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter installing UNR onto my dell mini 9 and downloading the correct drivers to enable wireless internet (using this site: [URL]), I decided to load ubuntu onto my brothers netbook. After the installation completed, I went to do complete the steps listed in the above article, however I was unable to connect to the internet using an ethernet wire.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu 10.04 into my compaq notebook. The problem is that I am not able to connect to my wired broadband internet.
Here are the details of my attempts so far:
1)"ifconfig -a" gave 2 devices eth0 and wlan0.
2)"pppoeconf" was unable to detect any ethernet cards.
3)Each time I plug in the LAN cable , the network icon would say "connecting" and ultimately result in "disconnected. Now in offline mode".My ethernet device is Realtek PCIe RT8101E/RTL102E (rev 02).
I also tried to install the realtek driver though I was not confident whether I did it correct.
I'm running Windows 7 and Xubuntu 10.10 on a dell pc. My wireless works fine when I run windows 7, but on Xubuntu, the wireless doesn't even come as an option. When I try to plug in the wired connection, it loads for about a minute then tells me I'm disconnect. The option for the wired connection is there, but when I try to click it, the same thing happens. What do I do?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI had shut down my laptop at work last week and when I booted it up the wired internet connect was not working. The wireless connection is working (I'm typing now via wireless).I have WinXP Pro on this machine (but I've never used it--I'm all Linux now). So I booted into WinXP and turned off the wireless and got internet connection through the ethernet cable, so it doesn't seem to be the cable or my ethernet card. Here is the output of "ifconfig"
Code:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:1c:25:7a:fa:b6

I'm new to OpenSuSE and have just booted up an Acer Aspire 4736z laptop with the 11.2 livecd. All of the specs (gathered from lspci -n) are available here: Debian HCL - Acer / Aspire 4736Z. Wired internet does not work. I have tried `modprobe atl1e` then `service network restart`to no effect. NetworkManager says nothing is plugged in (perhaps a hotplugging issue?). eth0 is listed in ifconfig.

I duel boot on my netbook with xp and duel boot my desktop PC with windows 7. None of the Ubuntus are able to connect, I have no problems with the windows side of things.
Has anyone any ideas on how to fix this until BT decide to fix the problem. Preferably a step to step guide as I have limited experience with Ubuntu. Im using Ubuntu 11.04.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just installed Fedora 10 for the first time on my HP Pavillion desktop. Everything worked fine and I installed the first set of updates. Then I wanted to install KDE so I did that. Then it told me there were more recommended updates. After installing KDE, I started to install the updates and when I came back today the wired connection wasn't working
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just updated my Dell Inspiron Mini to Maverick Meerkat (10.10), and I've very quickly run into quite a few problems. First, it took an awful long time to install all of the updates. Is that normal? Perhaps it's just because I'm using a puny netbook?
When the updates were finished and I rebooted, I logged in without any problems, but then got a gray screen. I've seen that screen before, when Ubuntu loads (especially with Lucid), but it doesn't go away. I rebooted using Desktop Edition instead of Netbook Edition, and there was an improvement, but the top toolbar is blank.Additionally, and most importantly, I can't get an Internet connection of any kind, wired or wireless.
I just installed debian, durning the installation i opted not to connect to the internet since the large network cable was in the closet and i did not feel like standing up. Now i have finished installing and plugged the network cable in, expecting it to "just work", this is not the case. What needs to happen before the wired network connection starts working? also, the lspci output, appearantly it won't find any network adapter. I suspect this is the fault of my lazyness.

using an Acer Aspire Revo with a MCP79 nvidia chip. After upgrading to 10.04 and getting a 2wire AT&T dsl modem, the revo wired lan will not work. I have a dell mini 9 and the wire lan works on it. Wireless works on both. reading the Ubuntu manual pages it seems that there is a driver problem, I need nfe driver. The explanation on how to add the driver talked about a loader.conf file. I think that was replaced in 10.04 grub2 with the /etc/grub.d/40_custom file.My question is if I add "if_nfe_load="YES" to the /etc/grub.d/40_custom file will it load the necessary driver?
View 1 Replies View RelatedRunning 10.4 only on this desktop. Did some upgrades this morning and now it only boots to the grub> prompt. So I went into the Live CD and am trying to reinstall/update grub from the terminal in the live cd however I can't get an internet connection. My DLink G122 isn't recognized (no lights) so I tried hardwiring the ethernet and eth0 is there but it fails to connect. I installed the Broadcom driver but now when I click on Hardware Drivers I only see a display driver listed.

I just got a new power supply in my old desktop, and installed ubuntu on it. I've got three NICs in there (for a later project), and when I connect my cable modem to any one of the NICs, then little connection triangle-spinny-thing in the upper-right tries to connect. But it never gets all the way connected.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to connect to the internet with a wired LAN connection for a while now with no luck. Running version 8.04 LTS on a 32-bit desktop. Interestingly, my 64-bit desktop running version 8.04 64-bit automatically connected to the internet with no problems or input from me. Both are connected to the same router.
I figured i'd try and copy the network manager settings from the 64-bit machine to the 32-bit machine, which involved setting an automatic configuration (DHCP}. All went well except no DNS server address showed up on the 32-bit system, despite there being one on the 64-bit system. Trying to run Firefox like this results in the 'page load error' page coming up immediately.
I then manually added the DNS server address from the 64-bit system to the 32-bit system, and all that did was prolong the time it takes for the 'page load error' page to appear.
I have a problem connecting to the internet using Ubuntu 9.10 . But the same works fine in Ubuntu 9.04.. First I thought it was my hardware problem and asked my friend(also was using ubuntu 9.04) to try ubuntu 9.10 but he too failed to connect....
I have an wired ADSL Modem given by my Service Provider. When I switch on my modem the router gets connected but it cannot connect me to internet...

I have been using lucid ubuntu 64 bit on this pc for months with no problem till yesterday. I noticed yesterday that eth0 was no longer being set up on boot and so internet is not there now. I am currently on the internet using karmic ubuntu.
I'm thinking an update with aptitude? What can I do in lucid to get my networking working? I tried booting into recovery mode and repairing packages but my pc could not get on the net to check the packages.
I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 tonight on my Acer Aspire One D250 and have no internet at all. I know both the wireless and wired internet work, as I am dual booting WinXP as well.

1. I am able to connect to the internet ('Wired') at home but when i plug in the internet cable at work it is not connecting. It gives me the message 'Unplugged, you are now disconnected'.
2. I tried installing the Wicd network manager. Even though there are wireless networks in range it doesnt show me the wireless networks (like it used to show in wiindows).
I have read through a long list of commands in the forums of commands to be executed and executed them all but couldnt connect. Is there anything basic that I am overlooking?
I thought that wired network should work once I plug in a network cable irrespective of the place. How come I am unable to connect to the network at work? I used to have a windows 7 partition and the net connected plug and play when i was in the windows side. I dont want to install Windows just for the internet at work again.
I no longer have a Auto eth0 connection. I am running 10.04 and have not done any major changes. Here is my ifconfig -a:

This happened when I am trying to install c++ and I think there is some problem in connecting to the internet. I set proxy server address and port number in System->preferences->Network proxy settings. I think I have set the proxy settings properly. And it is working fine in win XP.
I installed ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop a few days ago and love the OS so far. However, initially i could only get internet connection though an ethernet cord. After much internet searching, i finally figured out how to get wireless internet. Unfortunately, in setting up wireless internet, I no longer have wired internet. The system doesn't seem to recognize my wired internet anymore. I'd like a scenario where i can connect to the internet both wired and wireless.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been running ubuntu for about 6 months, so i'm still abit of a newbie at linux but heres what im having issues with:I'm having troubles connecting to the internet on ubuntu, i have no problems connecting on xubuntu on the same machine. I can connect to my network but i cant access the internet on firefox or snaptic or any of that, but the weird thing is i can successfully ping address' in the terminal. I can also connect to my router config page in firefox using 192.168.0.1.
My internet worked perfectly about a month ago on this ubuntu install, so i cant figure out what i did to make it stop working. I think it may have something to do with the/etc/resolv.conf file because it only exists as /etc/resolv.conf.tmp and when i run "sudo dhclient wlan0" (or eth0) it says:
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo dhclient wlan0
