Ubuntu Installation :: Usr/bin/lzma : Decoder Error During Apt-get Update?
Jul 9, 2011
after apt-get update,I am getting:99% [127 Translation-en lzma 0 B] [Connecting to ie.archive.ubuntu.com (193.1.193.69)]/usr/bin/lzma: Decoder error
Fetched 8,433 kB in 3min 52s (36.2 kB/s)

I have rebuilt the sources.list, followed numerous MergeList work arounds - but none change a thing - at appears that in this case the /usr/bin/lzma: Decoder error is essential to the issue.Could an ISP transparent proxy be the issue? I have recently changed from ADSL to mobile broadband...
When I'm trying to play an .mp4 file I get the message "you need modules MPEG-4-decoder and H.264-decoder". When searching for these message is "cannot be found". I'm running Fedora13 32-bits.
I installed all the codecs (Rhythmbox plays the files fine) - GStreamer good, bad and ugly Tried this link but when i open the SH file it was blank, alright i enter the code, save it and try run it in terminal
I am using ubuntu 9.10.While running a partial update through System->adminstration->update-manager. I am facing error as 'Error Authenticating some packages". Please find the attached, screenshot of the error and sources.list file output.
(after i update packages, it says error, and here's whats in the details tab) Preconfiguring packages ... (Reading database ... 197969 files and directories currently installed.) Preparing to replace flashplugin-installer 10.3.181.34ubuntu0.11.04.1 (using .../flashplugin-installer_10.3.181.34ubuntu0.11.04.1_i386.deb) ... code....
How to fix This? i haven't messed with Ubuntu much...Why am i getting an error about a kernel update?
From the import music menu, I can add music, and once selected can play a song, but once imported, whenever I try to play a song (from the normal menu item) I can select, it shows the correct song length, but it just sits there waiting to start. The log shows this.
"AV decoder. Error: -2" Why would one portion of the program play and another have an issue. I've played with permissions, didn't seem to help. Rhythmbox seems to work just fine on the same files.
update: not sure what I did, but it seems to be working. I went over the FAQ about what to do if no sound, did a few of the suggestions, but the only things that makes sense (granted to me, maybe not the best source of sense) is that I added a user to the audio group? or maybe it was Getting more than one application to use the soundcard at the same time?
After 2 months away from Fedora i am using it again, and used yum update to update stuff, everything was running fine, downloaded stuff, but 2 of the 666 stuff to install got error, here is:
after initating the update and i enter my pass word, update stops and an error box comes up stating that it is unable to update because there is more than one synaptic manager running, i have restarted and get the same results, and to my knowledge there is nothing else running in the background.
when i got play any movie or song i got some error which show below error:The playback of this movie requires a MPEG-1 Layer 3 (MP3) decoder plugin which is not installed.
Currently whenever the auto-update comes and I let it go ahead I get the message that the update has failed to finish successfully. I also get a similar problem when I try to install programmes: the synaptic starts the installation process but then I get a fail message that is similar to the one I get when the update manager fails to do it's work Here below is an image of the "fail" message
Today I installed suse 11.1 on my computer. After some time i was able to connect to the internet and the auto update program prompted for updates. after the updates were installed more updates were prompted. but now i get an error when i try to install them. edit: the error is "PackageKit Error internal-error: Installation aborted by user " if i try it manually i get an message "access denied to ......" how can i make my system update normal?
I got a grub error each time after updating ubuntu. I have to boot the system manually, and then update grub2. Now I am really scared to update. I thought this bug would be solved very soon, but it is still there. I can't bare it anymore.
I am using Ubuntu Ultimate x64. I see the update in my update manager but during the calculating before installing the update I get the following error: "Cannot Calculate the update" How do I fix this to install the update?
The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.
Failed to fetch url 404 Not Found Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
Im using 10.04.
Connection is fine. Maybe something wrong with server or any of my repository
When I hit the "upgrade" button, the box greys out and I get a message saying "could not download release notes, check your internet connection" (or words to that effect)?
I am helping a friend (remotely) and she has a problem on the laptop which prevents doing any updates. The error message is Could not initialise the package information An unresolvable problem occurred while initialising the package information. Please report this bug for the 'update-manager' package and try to include the following error message:
'E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/gb.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_jaunty-updates_restricted_binary-amd64_Packages, E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'
Along with the standard messages, apt-get displayed
Code:
gpg: symbol lookup error: /usr/local/lib/libreadline.so.6: undefined symbol: PC This occurs on using the update manager, package manager, apt-get update, etc. Any ideas? I've tried deleting the cached files, changing my server, checking that my date & time are correct (signing can be time sensitive), updating gpg (it was already at the latest), and maybe some other things I've forgotten.
Ever time I try to use Update Manager or Synaptic Package Manager I get this Error Message:
I have been wondering if I just need to do a fresh install. Am currently using 9.10 on a Compaq laptop which is prone to overheating and "freezing", usually within 2 hours. Maybe time to install 10.04?
Getting error when updating from update manager and also checking for upgrades in synaptic package manager...The below error is of update manager...However sometimes i dont get this error and update works.
I am running on ubuntu 11.04, and to keep my system uptodate, i am randomly checking and installing updates, but this time it showed me error, see the screenshot
I already checked (after googling) the canonical partner and canonical partner(source something) repositories under synaptic >settings>repos.. and nothing happened, the error is still there..
GRUB RESCUE ERROR AFTER UPDATE.Sometime ago last year, i installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my Compaq Presario 2100 Laptop via Wubi. My CD Drive wasnt working. I had installed it on a separate partition on my hard drive so i could dual boot with Windows XP. I thought this would have worked well. And it did until i decided to update to 10.10. I selected my hard drive option...or what i thought was the correct one and left it to update overnight. I woke up the next morning to a grub rescue error and no way to boot into XP or Ubuntu.
I think i've screwed over the laptop. I can't boot from a flash drive, and i doubt an external HD would help since it wouldnt boot from the usb. And as i mentioned before, the CD drive doesn't work. So i can't reinstall from a cd or usb.Is there anyway I can recover either of my OS's? I don't mind Ubuntu or XP being my main OS.
I get this error when running apt-get update on Ubuntu 10.04.1 Server. Never got it before today, apt-get update is always error-free, unless there are connection issues.

Sometime during the morning of Feb 23, 2010, I accepted Update Manager's updates on both my desktop and my laptop, both of which are running Karmic and both of which have been regularly updated by Update Manager. Before the updates, which I think I saw included an update to CUPS, my Brother MFC-8820D printer had been running satisfactorily.
Since the updates, all the printer yields, in response to my attempts to print from either my desktop or my laptop, is the following six lines: ERROR NAME; configuration error COMMAND; setpagedevice OPERAND STACK; --dicttype---
Assuming I'm correct that CUPS was updated on Feb 23, is there some way to find out what the latest CUPS update involved, and/or how to return to a prior version?
