I am running Jolicloud on my netbook (which I believe is an Ubuntu derivative) and I am tried to enter the getdeb.net sources in so I can install apps from the website through APT but
1) When I entered the sources into sources.list and then the key into Terminal and then went to the site and tried to install an app it didn't work.
2) I deleted the line of code in the sources.list file and when I opened terminal and entered "sudo apt-get update" it showed the list of sources, but on the list were Getdeb.net sources.
My question is how do I delete sources that aren't in /etc/apt/sources.list ?
I tried to change the basic toolbar to cairo dock,a tutorial that i found told me to write in terminal gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.listso i write it and a window opened,i couled not find the text that told me(the tutorial i mean)so i closed the window, after that i keep taiking the same error

I have updated from 9.10 to 10.04 on line via Update Manager. Update Manager messed up my sources. Blocked most of them on update. I unblicked them and changed everything to Lucid from Karmic. No luck. Errors all the time:

I am developing a customization of ubuntu for my company, as we mirror ubuntu repositories it would be great that the distro's sources.list be configured for using our repos instead of ubuntu's official on install, without the need of me going PC by PC making such configuration myself... How could this be achieved? Is there documentation about it? I have only managed to find data on how to configure the sources.list after installation.
I am installing a hp officejet pro 8500 all in one printer to knoppix 6.0.1. install hangs saying i need to disable cd sources in etc/apt/source.list. How do i do this?

I am using ubuntu 9.10. Can any one check my /etc/apt/sources.list file and let me know if anything wrong in the file. Sudo apt-get update is not working, there are some packages which are failing.
But when I look in my sources.list, the PPA repository is not there. Nevertheless I SUSPECT I'm receiving it's updates. Is there a file that PPAs are being written to other than sources.list?Should I manually update sources.list in order to add this PPAs?
I'm trying to install Ubuntu 9.10 on my Windows Vista Home Premium machine. My specs far exceed the requirements to install, so I know there's no problem there. On installation I receive an error somewhat through that says something like:Quote:An error occured:Permission deniedFor more information, please see the log file:C:UsersUsernameAppDataLocalTempwubi-9.10ubuntu1-rev160.logSo.... I go to that file, and the last line in it is:Quote:OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: u'C:\ubuntu\install\ubuntu-9.10-desktop-amd64.iso'I did run Wubi Installer as an Administrator, and unblocked it giving it full privileges. It's really annoying because my download speed is 80kb/s so it takes about 3 hours to download. During that 3 hours I can't use my internet so I have to wait, and wait, and wait, and then boom.error. And wubi can't pick up where it left off, you have to uninstall to reinstall, which sucks tremendously.
I'm trying to install Amanda 3.2 on Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick) using Ubuntu 10.04 deb package. The installation was successful using the dpkg command. The problem crops up when configuring such amanda. When creating a user amandabackup using passwd amandabackup and then enter in it through su - amandabackup a permission denied problem comes up. When enter amserverconfig Dailyset 1 etc etc the server response with : amservingconfig: critical (fatal): Cannot create debug file "/var/log/amanda/server/amserverconfig.2010120307947.debug": Permission denied and continues The permissions are set to rw 1 amandabackup backup. I can't understand why it's telling me permission denied each time.
I cant install Ubuntu 11.04 , on my Emachines laptop. On my Windows 7, When I boot up my USB/CD/card, it says: Ubuntu failed to mount dev/loop0 , something like that everytime, no matter what I do. And when I try wubi it says permission denied, .log filed saved. I've also mounted it using clonedrive, nothing works.
I have Ubuntu10.10 in my HP-laptop. I am trying to install ANSYS. There is an install file in setup. When I try to give install in terminal, being in the same directory it says, command not found. I tried ./INSTALL, it says "bash: ./INSTALL: Permission denied". I also tried from my home folder with full path for the install file, as the readme file says, "To install, enter the full path to the installation program on the media or to the downloaded installation files". I don't know what to do. I have these setup file in my external hard drive.
I was trying to install Tor and deleted a couple lines out of the sources.list. I think I may have deleted something I wasn't supposed to. When I try to run the Update Manager I get "An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message: 'E:Malformed line 56 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist), E:The list of sources could not be read.'" How can I fix this?
There is a problem with my source list (apparently) I'm running 11.04 if that helps. When I try to use apt-get install update for example, I get: "Malformed line 59 in source list etc/apt/sources.list"The same error occurs when trying to access synaptic package manager, it tells me there is a malformed line and the list of sources cannot be read. This error prevents me from apt-getting anything, updating and i suspect it is affecting the software center too.
I'm trying to install Ubuntu on an Aspire laptop with Windows XP. I downloaded 10.04 and burned an ISO image. I boot Windows and open the ISO disk. I open the first choice which is to try Ubuntu prior to a complete installation. The installation starts and proceeds for a few minutes. Then it stops and displays a message 'Permission Denied' and a suggestion to check the installation log. The last few lines are:
