Ubuntu Installation :: Install Tor And Deleted A Couple Lines Out Of The Sources.list?
Aug 8, 2010
I was trying to install Tor and deleted a couple lines out of the sources.list. I think I may have deleted something I wasn't supposed to. When I try to run the Update Manager I get "An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message: 'E:Malformed line 56 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist), E:The list of sources could not be read.'" How can I fix this?
I am running Jolicloud on my netbook (which I believe is an Ubuntu derivative) and I am tried to enter the getdeb.net sources in so I can install apps from the website through APT but
1) When I entered the sources into sources.list and then the key into Terminal and then went to the site and tried to install an app it didn't work.
2) I deleted the line of code in the sources.list file and when I opened terminal and entered "sudo apt-get update" it showed the list of sources, but on the list were Getdeb.net sources.
My question is how do I delete sources that aren't in /etc/apt/sources.list ?

I have updated from 9.10 to 10.04 on line via Update Manager. Update Manager messed up my sources. Blocked most of them on update. I unblicked them and changed everything to Lucid from Karmic. No luck. Errors all the time:
Code: W: GPG error: [URL] lucid Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 40976EAF437D05B5 W: GPG error: [URL] Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 40976EAF437D05B5 W: GPG error: [URL] Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 40976EAF437D05B5 I cannot add gpg keys and use for example canonical.
I am developing a customization of ubuntu for my company, as we mirror ubuntu repositories it would be great that the distro's sources.list be configured for using our repos instead of ubuntu's official on install, without the need of me going PC by PC making such configuration myself... How could this be achieved? Is there documentation about it? I have only managed to find data on how to configure the sources.list after installation.
I am installing a hp officejet pro 8500 all in one printer to knoppix 6.0.1. install hangs saying i need to disable cd sources in etc/apt/source.list. How do i do this?

When I exit from Synaptic I get a list of duplicate sources. Is there a program that remove them? Often I can not spot the duplicates in the software sources window.
I am using ubuntu 9.10. Can any one check my /etc/apt/sources.list file and let me know if anything wrong in the file. Sudo apt-get update is not working, there are some packages which are failing.
But when I look in my sources.list, the PPA repository is not there. Nevertheless I SUSPECT I'm receiving it's updates. Is there a file that PPAs are being written to other than sources.list?Should I manually update sources.list in order to add this PPAs?
There is a problem with my source list (apparently) I'm running 11.04 if that helps. When I try to use apt-get install update for example, I get: "Malformed line 59 in source list etc/apt/sources.list"The same error occurs when trying to access synaptic package manager, it tells me there is a malformed line and the list of sources cannot be read. This error prevents me from apt-getting anything, updating and i suspect it is affecting the software center too.
I used grub customizer to delete the extra ubuntu entries on the grub after an update but when i restarted what was left was just windows and mac. Is there any way to put it back?
I have added to Debian Wheezy testing repositories. After a restart there is no desktop anymore just the wallpaper picture is visible but no desktop pop-ups.
When I want to install the desktop through recovery mode, I get an error message that it "can't fetch...repos". How I can repair /etc/apt/sources.list through recovery mode?
I tried to include new software sources for VLC and Wine. Something went wrong and the authentication keys didn't work right, and were producing errors of authentication.
In one moment of carelessness (other word for stupidity) I deleted all the authentication keys from the software sources and of course with all the updates I am getting that software cannot be authenticated.
I clicked on "restore defaults" but still it isn't working right. I tried for example to install "Filezilla" and I got a warning that software could not be authenticated and installation stopped.
Does anyone know how I can restore all the proper authenticating keys?
Need to yum install apache2-threaded-dev but says "no package available". There is no "/etc/apt/sources.list" - so what do I do, and what should be the urls?
I've got the following problem: I just noticed that there were just very few notifications about updating the system (usually there are damn many of them in a week) So I opened the update manager and clicked on "refresh list". The following result popped up: p,li{white-space:pre-wrap;}E: Error http://ppa.launchpad.net natty/main/Sources Sources 404 Not Found First I thought, it would be just some kind of server problem, but it didn't stop. The next thing was to research the thread and I even found something. However, the solution suggested didn't work at all. (Things, which might have caused this: I installed the default software center |I'm using Kubuntu, but in this case that fact doesn't matter| and used it. To sum up:
- not able to update the system referring to the launchpad main sources for 11.04 - following error: E: Error http://ppa.launchpad.net natty/main/Sources Sources 404 Not Found It would be great if this was a common issue and I've been simply too stupid to find a proper solution. So you could just post the link.
