don't know much, but when I tried to update I get this error:
E: Type 'sudo' is not known on line 52 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list E: The list of sources could not be read.
I am running Jolicloud on my netbook (which I believe is an Ubuntu derivative) and I am tried to enter the getdeb.net sources in so I can install apps from the website through APT but
1) When I entered the sources into sources.list and then the key into Terminal and then went to the site and tried to install an app it didn't work.
2) I deleted the line of code in the sources.list file and when I opened terminal and entered "sudo apt-get update" it showed the list of sources, but on the list were Getdeb.net sources.
My question is how do I delete sources that aren't in /etc/apt/sources.list ?
Ive seen some fixes for this but they all seem to be specific to the particular user's sources.list . . . ..
Code:

I tried to change the basic toolbar to cairo dock,a tutorial that i found told me to write in terminal gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.listso i write it and a window opened,i couled not find the text that told me(the tutorial i mean)so i closed the window, after that i keep taiking the same error
E: Type sudo is not known on line 55 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list
E: The list of sources could not be read.
Go to the repository dialogue to correct the problem.

E: Type sudo is not known on line 55 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list
When I run the update manager and start updating, I get this error:
W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ lucid/partner Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/archive.canonical.com_ubuntu_dists_lucid_partner_b inary-i386_Packages)
In my netbook /etc/apt/sources.list contains the cdrom asdeb cdrom:[Ubuntu ....]/hardy main restrictedIf I keep the iso file in /ubuntu and then want it to be refreshed during #/etc/apt/apt-get updatehow must I motify /etc/apt/sources.list

From what i have read at man sources you can only add .deb files in the list.

I have updated from 9.10 to 10.04 on line via Update Manager. Update Manager messed up my sources. Blocked most of them on update. I unblicked them and changed everything to Lucid from Karmic. No luck. Errors all the time:
Code:
W: GPG error: [URL] lucid Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 40976EAF437D05B5
W: GPG error: [URL] Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 40976EAF437D05B5
W: GPG error: [URL] Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 40976EAF437D05B5
I cannot add gpg keys and use for example canonical.
I am developing a customization of ubuntu for my company, as we mirror ubuntu repositories it would be great that the distro's sources.list be configured for using our repos instead of ubuntu's official on install, without the need of me going PC by PC making such configuration myself... How could this be achieved? Is there documentation about it? I have only managed to find data on how to configure the sources.list after installation.

But when I look in my sources.list, the PPA repository is not there. Nevertheless I SUSPECT I'm receiving it's updates. Is there a file that PPAs are being written to other than sources.list?Should I manually update sources.list in order to add this PPAs?
I get this error message: E: Malformed line 57 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse)
I am pretty new to Ubuntu and dont really understand computer
Here is the sources list (??) as well

I was trying to install Tor and deleted a couple lines out of the sources.list. I think I may have deleted something I wasn't supposed to. When I try to run the Update Manager I get "An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message: 'E:Malformed line 56 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist), E:The list of sources could not be read.'" How can I fix this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedThere is a problem with my source list (apparently) I'm running 11.04 if that helps. When I try to use apt-get install update for example, I get: "Malformed line 59 in source list etc/apt/sources.list"The same error occurs when trying to access synaptic package manager, it tells me there is a malformed line and the list of sources cannot be read. This error prevents me from apt-getting anything, updating and i suspect it is affecting the software center too.

1.) I made a few updates that I found a website my friend sent me: http://blog.thesilentnumber.me/2009/...nstalling.html
however, when I would go to enter the APT line in the other sources in the software sources windows then close and reload it I would get the following error message code...
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I also attached a screen shot of the error message window.
2.) I don't know if i should post another issue I had, but when i try to run GNUnet it says that Daemon is not running. I'm not sure what that is all about.
I installed Ubuntu 10.10, now I've been trying to add some applications like docky and jdownloader but always I got this message error :
[code]...
how to solve these and how to find a way to install my applications.
I've got the following problem: I just noticed that there were just very few notifications about updating the system (usually there are damn many of them in a week) So I opened the update manager and clicked on "refresh list". The following result popped up: p,li{white-space:pre-wrap;}E: Error http://ppa.launchpad.net natty/main/Sources Sources 404 Not Found First I thought, it would be just some kind of server problem, but it didn't stop. The next thing was to research the thread and I even found something. However, the solution suggested didn't work at all. (Things, which might have caused this: I installed the default software center |I'm using Kubuntu, but in this case that fact doesn't matter| and used it. To sum up:
- not able to update the system referring to the launchpad main sources for 11.04
- following error: E: Error http://ppa.launchpad.net natty/main/Sources Sources 404 Not Found It would be great if this was a common issue and I've been simply too stupid to find a proper solution. So you could just post the link.
i can't find a lot in this add remove i want unrar or rar for linux i can't install it and many other things.

I think I may have accidentally screwed up my sources.list for Ubuntu 10.04 x64. Does anyone know where I can find the original?
For example, when I try to 'sudo aptitude install zsnes' the package is there (it let's me auto complete it), it gives me the following:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Reading extended state information

I only started using it about two weeks ago now though I've had fun this morning I tried to update with update manager but I got this message:
Could not initialize the package information
An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.
Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:
'E:Type 'main' is not known on line 2 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list, E:The list of sources could not be read.'
