Ubuntu Installation :: Finding The Correct 10.10 Maverick Meercat ISO?

May 13, 2011

I'm looking for the ISO that I download to put on a flashdrive. Maybe I'm stupid, but every link mentions 'CD/DVD' and it throws me off. i'm just trying to get the horrid Windows 7 off of my new Hp mini 110 and Ubuntu in its place. my old netbook had 10.04 on it. but i think i want to give 10.10 a try. so thats the one im looking for.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Can't Get Songs From Rhythmbox To IPod - 10.10 Maverick Meercat / Fix It?

Oct 19, 2010

Having updated to 10.10 I am having a problem getting songs from Rhythmbox to my iPod.

When i plug in the iPod it mounts fine and opens in Rhythmbox. I then transfer the songs that i just pulled off amazon/ubuntu one onto the iPod by drag and drop. In Rhythmbox, the songs appear to be on the iPod and i can even play them off the ipod while it is mounted to Rhythmbox - i.e. when i am browsing the music selection on the ipod through rythmbox the songs will play, which makes me think they are on the ipod.

The problem is that when i try and play a song off the ipod, through speakers or headphones, then nothing plays. The song simply sits silent on the ipod. The track timer doesn't move and the tracks count up at around 4 second intervals.

This simple drag and drop approach worked in 10.04.

I see that there are some problems syncing ipods in 10.10. The most relevant appears to be a bug reported here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ox/+bug/654105

This bug however appears to be about taking songs off an ipod, not putting them on. That said i think the problem might be related (about copying appropriate extensions). The issue is that the ipod organises music in such a bizarre fashion that i can't find the songs to check the extension that has come off Rhytmbox. I don't want to duplicate the bug if its the same or related.

Ubuntu Installation :: Upgrade From 10.04 To 10.10 - Meercat Download Failure

Dec 19, 2010

Running 10.04 tried to upgrade to 10.10. Download ran for 6.5 hours then produced a failure message. Download speed varied all over the place from 30 kbps to 170 kbps but usually well below 100. Speedtest shows about 100 kbps in and out. Is there a way to drop back to 10.04 ad run the 10.10 download from scratch? Attempts to run the download now produce index error messages.

General :: KPackageKit Not Finding Correct IP Address

Aug 15, 2010

I have installed Kubuntu Lucid x86 10.4 LTS for the first time. Has anyone got a link that explains how KPackageKit gets the IP address of the repositories? I can install packages using sudo apt-get install xxx OK . KpackageKit tells me I have updates from the repositories. I can select them all and apply , but I get an error that it can't find the repository under a 192.168.100.129:8080 address . Which is not a surprise . I am using mirror.optus.net as a repository and can ping it fine on the command line. So is there somewhere else that KPackageKit maps IP addreses ? I have tried another mirror mirror.aarnet.edu.au and got similar results. My local sub-net is not 192.168.100 and have tried setting fixed IP on the local sub-net and different DHCP addresses and still the same error.

-I tried /dev/media/setup.exe. Also no good.

I thought using df would help me and there i found /dev/sr0/ would be my cd-rom drive. Dunno it this correct though.

Software :: Help Finding Correct Version Of Yakuake For Slackware 13.37

Jul 12, 2011

I am a complete noob in the Linux community, having JUST installed my first Linux distro on my PC (that being Slackware 13.37).That having been said, please be patient with my TOTAL confusion is this regard : How do I determine which version of a package I need to download (in this example, I will use Yakuake, a program I AM trying to find at the moment!). I have done searches on the internet of the type"Yakuake for Slackware", etc., and I have always found results that I believed were a link to the correct version. However, when I finally have the package downloaded (I have downloaded BOTH source packages as
well as the build app.), they are always for a DIFFERENT VERSION!

This is most frustrating...; is there a "listing" of different packages that are compatible with a specific distro / version? I realize that, in many cases, I may require a newer version of a library, etc., but again, how do I determine this ahead of time, before I bother downloading the actual app. I wish to install? I can use another example - I attempted to install OpenOffice; I began by searching for OpenOffice for Slackware / KDE (as some sources indicated that Gnome was the required gui for this package...).I found a site with an install cd .iso that was supposed to be multi-platform KDE compatible, but NONE of the versions would install on Slackware 13.37... - you get my point?

Ubuntu Installation :: Lucid LTS The Correct Upgrade Path?

May 9, 2010

A few days ago I made the mistake of upgrading to Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, and subsequently had nothing but trouble. My volume icon disappeared and for the life of me I couldn't find it or reinstall it. An eerily Windows-like chat icon has appeared next to my login name that I didn't ask for, and more importantly my handbrake program (Matroska encoder) completely stopped working.

I've learned in the past that LTS editions are not normal upgrades, and I should best avoid them. But this one appears from the Ubuntu homepage to be the standard upgrade from Karmic to Lucid. I've had to completely reinstall Karmic on my workstation just to be able to carry on as normal, but the laptop seems to be coping ok with the LTS edition. Can anybody tell me if this LTS is now the default upgrade for Lucid, or is this just a regular LTS and I should wait for my standard one to come out?

Ubuntu Installation :: Changes To Menu.lst Do Not Reflect Correct Partition?

May 19, 2010

I have Ubuntu Lucid, but this problem has been around since Feisty for me. Here's what happens: My menu.lst file has the following line in it:

title Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, kernel 2.6.32-22-generic
root (hd0,2)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.32-22-generic root=UUID=de57202b-4cfd-4de3-8b3c-92c2267eb10a ro quiet splash vga=773
initrd /initrd.img-2.6.32-22-generic

Upon any kernel updates, or uninstalling old kernels that I no longer need, the hd(0,2) gets replaced by hd(0,0), which leads to not being able to boot, unless I manually reset the hd(0,0) back to hd(0,2).

When on 10.04, I had the 'show new distribution releases' set to 'Long term support releases only', but it didn't offer the upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 unless I changed it to 'Normal releases'. Ubuntu Installation :: No Display On Boot With Maverick 10.10

Oct 11, 2010

I just upgraded my laptop to 10.10 and now when I boot the display doesn't show anything. This laptop worked flawlessly on 10.04. I can tell the underlying system is fine, because if I type my boot password the hard disk activity picks up like it is continuing to boot, and CTRL+ALT+DEL reboots the computer as one would expect. When I boot using an old kernel (a leftover from 10.04 I think) via GRUB the system boots normally. What can I do about this? My laptop is an HP Elitebook 2730p. According to the specs it uses an Intel GMA 4500MHD for graphics. I am using the 64-bit version of Ubuntu.

If I try the recovery mode, I get a menu with options to get to a command line, but the keyboard is still disabled (only Ctrl-Alt-Del works).I already had a similar error in Lucid: the black screen with the Plymouth error showed up, but after a few seconds X started anyway and everything went fine. Ubuntu :: Unstable Maverick Meerkat Installation

Dec 21, 2010

I've been running Ubuntu on an IBM Thinkpad T42 for about 3 years and have never had any instability but my Meerkat upgrade 10.10 about a week ago has never been right and seems to be getting worse. It's almost impossible to use the Internet. Whether Epiphany or Firefox, the screen keeps going grey and regularly freezes the computer completely so that NO keyboard commands work and only a hard restart will do. I also have problems streaming audio feeds with RP 11 or VLC. VLC is more of a problem which I find odd as it is solid in Windoze.

PS The instability isn't only Internet related. There are lots of strange little things like authentication windows not closing after I enter password and hit Enter or click OK, not being able to paste in Terminal (sometimes not others), toolbard in apps appearing differently sometimes, stuff like that.
