View 9 RepliesI am trying to use 'convert' in command prompt to convert image file format.I get the following error.
convert: UnableToOpenConfigureFile `delegates.xml' @ configure.c/GetConfigureOptions/589.
convert: NoDecodeDelegateForThisImageFormat `airplane.jpg' @ constitute.c/ReadImage/530.
convert: MissingAnImageFilename `airplane.ppm' @ convert.c/ConvertImageCommand/2838.
An easy way to convert wav files into mp3 (or ogg).
$ sudo-apt-get install nautilus-script-audio-convert mpg321 vorbis-tools lame nautilus-script-manager.
after that run
$ nautilus-script-manager enable ConvertAudioFile
Now, when you right click on audio file, under 'scripts', you will see ConvertAudioFile option.
I have Ubuntu 9.04 and just installed Sound Converter. I am trying to convert a bunch of .ogg files to mp3 to play on my iPod and it's not working so well. In the Sound Converter options I have is set to convert to high quality mp3. I choose the folder that the files are in and after a moment (slow laptop) Sound Converter populates, I hit 'convert' and it shows that the conversion completes in two seconds. All that it did was create the new folder structure of artist/album but there is nothing in there. Not sure what I am missing. I used Sound Converter before and it worked fine.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a lot of .flac files downloaded from several sites. Most of them come with a .cue file, and the .jpg with the cover, etc. It seems it is the intention of the uploader that one rebuilds the original CDDA. However, if I had a stand-alone CD/DVD player with flac I would hardly see the point of converting the flac to cdda. Furthermore, I could even play the flacs with a software player although, in this case, the audio quality would not be so good due to the noise picked up by the signal from the PC digital circuits.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been using ubuntu 10.04 through wubi installation and would like to now convert it to a dedicated partition .
On searching I found LVPM does that. It converts the wubi install to a dedicated partition including all the softwares and settings.
Unfortunately it doesn't support ubuntu 10.04 currently .
Can anyone suggest any alternate way to achieve the same or a patch for LVPM .

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed Netbook Remix 10.04 on my MSi Wind u100, and so it dual-boots XP, as well as Netbook Remix. I'm not a huge fan of netbook remix, and I find it really doesn't add a whole lot to my netbook experience. I was quite surprised when setting up evolution and empathy to find a number of the windows didn't fit on my 1024x600 screen.As such I would like to put normal Ubuntu 10.04 onto my netbook. What would be the easiest way to do it? Should I just install it from a LiveCD, or is there a better way?

The university distributes the MacBooks to us with loads of class-related software pre-loaded. I'm unsure if they give us recovery discs for the Mac installation and the software.I have used Macs before, but I'm not all that Savy with them. What I need is a walkthrough on how to do certain things:
I want to backup the hard drive of the Mac, including the OS, and all the included programs.I want to wipe the hard drive, and install Ubuntu as a single OS.I want to take the backed up OSX and run that in VirtualBox, with full functionality: (internet, video making, graphic work, multimedia, etc)After that, I want to install Windows 7 as another guest OS, but I think I can handle that.

View 9 Replies View RelatedOur business is replacing Microsoft Windows with Ubuntu (Linux) but there is one or two problems with the main computer in the office. One the main computer is my Dad's computer and the only thing he does differently then the other computers is that he does his accounting which he uses Simply Accounting and I don't think Simply Accounting is compatible with Ubuntu/Linux.
I found a great, simple accounting program for Ubuntu called Eqonomize. It doesn't have to be that one, but anyone where we can convert are data from Simply Account to an accounting program with Ubuntu.
I have two partition in my netbook (plus swap):
/dev/sda4 with Ubuntu 10.4 /dev/sda5 with Centos 5.5
I use Ubuntu obviously. Centos is there because I need to run some test on that distro. The problem is Centos uses Grub and Ubuntu uses Grub2.
This is /boot/grub/menu.lst from Centos:
Code:
default=0 timeout=5 splashimage=(hd0,4)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz
title CentOS (2.6.18-194.17.4.el5xen)
root (hd0,4)
kernel /boot/xen.gz-2.6.18-194.17.4.el5
module /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-194.17.4.el5xen ro root=LABEL=/1 rhgb quiet
module /boot/initrd-2.6.18-194.17.4.el5xen.img .....

I have a very old laptop with no CD and no Floppy and a BIOS that won't boot from a USB device.I wanted to install Ubuntu on it though so I pulled the hard drive and connected it to my Macbook via a USB-to-PATA adapter. I booted the Macbook off the live CD and tried to install Ubuntu to the USB drive but the install wanted to update the boot partition on my Macbook which I would prefer not to do (I run Ubuntu on the Macbook in a VM). Instead, I used the Startup Disk Creator in Ubuntu 10.04 to make the hard drive from the old laptop an Ubuntu Startup Disk. I put it back in the laptop and it works fine, but when you boot it asks if you want to install Ubuntu and of course you can't because there is no available disk.
I thought about pulling the drive and doing this all again but splitting the drive into two partitions so I could make one partition the startup disk and install to the other, but I was not sure this would work. The disk in question is only 12 GB so I don't have a lot of space to work with. Also, this particular laptop is a huge pain to get the drive out of so if I can somehow fix this without removing the drive again that would be awesome. If there was some way to just convert the startup disk to a "regular" installation that would be ideal.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just realized I should have posted this in the multimedia forum. I tried to delete it, but did not find an option for that under edit. Hi there - I'm trying to convert an avi file into an ISO that I can burn to DVD. I found a page that gave really good, step by step instructions, on this site:[URL].. But things did not go quite according to plan. When I tried the first step, it said couldn't find any package whose name or description matched "lame-extras". I then got the following output, followed by all the installation stuff:
The following NEW packages will be installed: dvdauthor ffmpeg lame libavdevice52{a} libavfilter0{a} liblzo2-2{a} libmp3lame0{a} libsvga1{a} libxvidcore4{a} mencoder mplayer{a} 0 packages upgraded, 11 newly installed, 0 to remove and 2 not upgraded.
Undaunted, I plowed ahead (what's the worst that could happen?), and went through with the rest of the steps. Finally, I created the dir to do the conversion, cd'ed into it, and ran the script, as instructed, and got the following (the file that I was using was an episode of Entourage, just as a test, as it was the shortest avi file I had):
[Code]...
