View 4 RepliesI am trying to install some software to view/manipulate N-body simulations, Tipsy, and am getting this error: /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lXext collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
View 2 Replies View RelatedI thought I would try out Eric's KDE 4.5.1 and Robby's new Xorg pacakges. The upgrade went off with out a hitch, but now when I try to launch conky I get
conky: error while loading shared libraries: libmowgli.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
So I rebuilt conky and reinstalled libmowgli ran ldconfig but I still get the error.
My conky weather doesnt show any thing and I already got my Partner ID , License Key and Location ID and I tried to run the command below to install ConkyForecast: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install conkyforecast
But I have got this error : E: Couldn't find package conkyforecast and I dont know what to do , Can you guys tell me what should I do ?
I have conky installed and set up as a startup application, however everytime I log out and back in conky creates itself as a new window:
How can I get conky to start normally without having to do a manual restart everytime I login?
Said that all the config i find put all the info in one place of the screen, in this example on the right side:
url
or like conky colors where you can put in either side, or other complex examples that use folders with images..that at least i need one day to study all the variables it has...
What i want is something simple, in my black background i dont want images and effects, only white simple text.
My problem is: i want for instance my specs above, my log info in the middle, my music info bellow (above my clock) and in conky config i'm hitting my head in the wall....
For instance if i use my facebook script to appear in the midle how the hell can i put my music info bellow without ruined the facebook in the midle...do i need 2 conky configs?
when I type "conky" in terminal it returns with Conky: invalid configuration file '/home/user/.conkyrc' Conky: missing text block in configuration; exiting ***** Imlib2 Developer Warning ***** : This program is calling the Imlib call: imlib_context_free(); With the parameter: context being NULL. Please fix your program. I've tried completely uninstalling, rebooting, then reinstalling, still same error?

atlast i downloaded 64 bit version of natty. (i m currently using 10.10 32 bit). before i go for a clean install, i wished to test natty (the stable release) by running it from my usb stick. i was able to boot into it and natty identified my wi-fi with a breeze. i wanted to test some configurations that i had customized in maverick. i installed conky in natty and copied the conky script that i used in maverick. i also installed the necessary sensors. now the hitch is the sensors are unable to detect the temperature. is it coz i am running natty from a usb stick or some bug is there in this part ?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to get conky up and going. I found a tutorial here: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showth...stalling+conky
Now, I installed it with yum, however, I cannot open it with Ctrl+F2, and when I follow some of the steps in that tutorial, I had a couple issues:
[mcauley@laptop ~]$ chmod a+x ~/.conkyscript.sh
chmod: cannot access `/home/mcauley/.conkyscript.sh': No such file or directory
[mcauley@laptop ~]$ !/bin/bash[code]......
I have downloaded conky but cant make it work. I have so far installed from terminal. But I do not see it in my desktop. Where do I create the rc file?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to Natty and now Conky is no longer reading the temperature sensor. It permanently displays 0' Celcius. The temperature was displaying correctly before the upgrade and the mobo is brand-new.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running F14 on an Intel i5 processor with a NVidia GT340 graphics card. Installation works great. Compiz Fusion runs too. At this point, the panels are a little unpredictable, in the sense that some items on the panels disappear and appear as they please; changes only come during startup. The userswitcher is usually absent (but not always). The show desktop icon is sometimes absent, and on a very rare occasion, the desktop switcher is invisible. For all of these items, space is reserved in the panel, and when manually added to the panels, that space is left blank; I can not move anything into that space. It remains reserved for the item that isn't shown.
Then I install conky. First installation works fine, shows all things that are called upon in the .conkyrc file nicely. It works fine until I click anything - even on blank space - on the desktop. Conky then disappears. The process continues to run, but it's no longer displayed. Upon reboot, all of my panels disappear, and I have no idea how to get them back. When I uninstall conky everything works again as before (the userswitcher being the least predictable item on my panels). When I reinstall conky, and add it to my startup items, it shows for a couple of seconds after log-in after which it disappears. I assume - but don't know how to check as I have no panels left so how can I run the system monitor - that the process keeps running, but it isn't displayed.
I have installed Debian maybe 30 times over the years since about 2003, stable, testing and Sid on two different desktops and two different laptops. The only problem I have ever had is sometimes with a flaky daily build. It is one of my favorite distros.
BUT, I am totally frustrated is trying to install to a USB. I have followed the manual step by step about 6 times in the past two weeks. The result is always the same. The installation fails to find an installation iso image. Yes, I know the iso image and the hd-media vmlinuz and initrd.gz files are supposed to be the same version.
File: debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso from: [url]
Files: vmlinuz and initrd.gz from: [url]
The USB boots to a Language selection screen and proceeds through the Keyboard selection screen with no problems.
The next step which searches for an installation iso image fails.
Skipping that step and trying to load installer components from iso image also fails.
Searching the entire PC for an installation iso image also fails. (I even copied the netinst iso image to the HD root directory.)
The instaler doesnt find my partitions and the XP that is installed too! For some reasons i cannot delete the whole hdd... if i format the partition, where (i want to install ubuntu) with fat, the pc crashes during the installing process after the tastaturlayout question! if i try some other formats, the installer tells me, that there are no Operating Systems installed and the hdd is unpartitioned!
if i start ubuntu live from the cd, the system finds all partitions, but if i run cfdisk in a terminal, i get a fatal error (cannot open disk space)... My machine is a acer aspire 1694 WLMi (pretty old, but should be no problem), bios is up to date, Windows is XP home edition with SP3.
I had been using ubuntu for quite a while.But alas , I had to switch to WinXp when I started learning VS using its IDE.I installed Windows over Ubuntu wiping its grub.I hoped I will repair grub when I would need to.Now when I boot from Live CD to install grub it can't find the installation present.Moreover,when I try to make a fresh installation it can't find any Operating System in the HDD and asks to format WHOLE.. hard disk to make partition table and continue installation.

how do i make this conky not to be on top of others on startup? i have to killall conky then activate conky to use it normally.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just did a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10 and i thought I'll just compile the latest version of conky.
So i did:
Code:
./configure --prefix=/usr --enable-audacious=yes --enable-iostats --enable-curl --enable-rss --enable-weather-metar --enable-weather-xoap --enable-imlib2 --enable-lua-imlib2 --enable-lua --enable-lua-cairo --enable-wlan All good. I finally install everything and manage to get configure to finish but once I type make it exists in the middle.
Code:
[...]
mv -f .deps/conky-ccurl_thread.Tpo .deps/conky-ccurl_thread.Po
gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -DSYSTEM_CONFIG_FILE="/usr/etc/conky/conky.conf" -DPACKAGE_LIBDIR="/usr/lib/conky" -pthread -[code]....
I recently installed Ubuntu and I came across Conky.I was fascinated with this software and installed it using terminal codes. At first it rand with the default config file loaded. then i PC shutdown due to a power failure. now conky does not start and after searching over the net i found out that my conky config file is missing. I pasted the conky config fiel yet to no avail.
It gives me this error while running it in Terminal
Code:
Conky: /home/shazzy/.conkyrc: 30: no such configuration: 'on_bottom'
Conky: /home/shazzy/.conkyrc: 63: no such configuration: 'border_margin'
Conky: use_spacer should have an argument of left, right, or none. 'no' seems to be some form of 'false', so defaulting to none.

Here's the link to the site. I'm not sure how do i set this up as my conky config.

I've been trying to set up Conky and everytime I try to put in new code that I've copied and pasted I always get it to look super crappy for some reason..Also why is it going to the bottom left instead of top right?

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I run Conky on Ubuntu 11.04, then after some time it suddenly disappears (isn't drawn anymore on the desktop). With 'ps' I can see that the Conky process is still running, it just isn't drawing itself anymore. I don't know what exactly triggers Conky to disappear. Does this have something to do with Unity?

I have conky on my desktop, and it works most of the time. The only times I've noticed problems are when I do large file transfers from my computer to an external HD.
What happens during large file transfers is that Conky crashes, and then I realize that my desktop is also "dead" (as in, I can't highlight anything. The icon for my external HD is gone, even though it is still mounted and accessible. Right-clicking doesn't do anything either.). I tried Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, but that didn't work either. I can log out and back in to get everything working again, but that's a bit of a pain.
I'm using the GNOME desktop on Ubuntu 9.10.
I've downloaded a .htm file from the WWW which has the following few lines:
Quote:
<h1>
Latest Times as at: 4-Feb-2010 15:30 ${color3}${execi 1800 grep "Latest" FinishTimes.htm | sed -e 's/ in Tideda Files//'}
</h1>
and in my Conky script I do this:
Code:
${color3}${execi 1800 grep "Latest" FinishTimes.htm}
but when it prints on the screen there is an empty box at the end of the line. I assume this a CR or LF that's attached to the end of the line, but how can I get rid of it?
Is there a way to stop conky from closing when I click on it? I have a few set up as a system monitor bar on the desktop, and I'd like to anchor them there from accidental clicking so I don't have to restart my script.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAs the title implies, I have fluxbox and conky running in Karmic. The problem is getting conky to start at startup. Below is my ~/.fluxbox/startup file. I have searched and tried everything I have found to get it to work. Conky works beautifully when I run it manually. Anyway, here is my startup file:
Code:
#!/bin/sh
xmodmap "/home/doug/.Xmodmap"
unclutter -idle 2 &
conky &
exec fluxbox -log "/home/doug/.fluxbox/log"
Lines added before and after the conky line run perfectly. Unclutter runs, but no conky.
