I'm having issues burning the 64-bit ISO. I currently have 32-bit installed and wanted to have a fresh 64-bit build. The MD5 checks out OK. I tried burning it in Windows with Nero, in my 32-bit Ubuntu, at reduced speeds, and no dice. I had no issues burning the 32-bit ISO. The burn always bombs out on closing or finalizing the CD.
View 2 RepliesI have run preupgrade; the image won't fit on the existing boot sector; so it wants an internet connection, which it has. Then it bombs after it detects the existing installation (Fedora 11), and also detects where the boot record is, which I tell it update. The bug report file generated by anaconda is attached. I would have done this in Bugzilla, but for some reason it will not recognize my login.Critical information:quad x86_64 machine, 8 GB memory, dual boot, two hard drives. hard drive 1 has Linux, hard drive 2 has Vista, the mbr is on hard drive 2.It is possible the unusual configuration is the cause of the problem. I do hope I can get around this, because there is so much stuff installed that it would be a real pain to start from scratch.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently tried to burn an ISO image to a DVD. Everything seemed to be going fine except Brasero froze at "Finalizing". It stayed there for about 10 minutes before I gave up. When I hit cancel nothing happened. When I tried to eject the drive nothing happened. Not until I shut the computer down and restarted was I able to open my DVD drive. Upon trying to read the disc no computer shows that it has anything on it.

I just finished a few updates this evening (Friday Jan. 22, 2010). Attempting to launch Sunbird from the menu after the updates finished brought nothing. From the command line:

If you also experience this same scenario, there is a quick fix. As root, load /usr/bin/sunbird into a text editor of your choice. Edit the line:
moz_libdir=/usr/lib/sunbird-1.0b2pre
to read:
moz_libdir=/usr/lib/sunbird-1.0pre
I suppose that would be /usr/lib64/ if you're using 64 bit OS.
Whether this was a glitch in the delta rpm rebuild (yum presto) that only might have effected me, or a packaging snafu that's going to catch everyone, I don't know at this time.
So I am basically just curious about this, but is there a way to prevent fork bombs from bringing the system to grinding halt in Ubuntu, without setting hard limits on the resources available to users? I read about fork bombs on Wikipedia, and being the masochist I am (and not having any unsaved work), I tried entering those 13 characters into terminal. Wow. I have never seen a computer freeze up so fast.What really peaked my curiosity is that the same fork bomb has almost no effect on the performance of Mac OSX (10.6). I know that one can limit the availability of resources to specific users. Is that essentially what Snow Leopard is doing?

My first post and am very new to Linux OS. I already have Win7. Now i want to try Ubuntu. So, i downloaded "ubuntu-10.10-desktop-i386.iso.torrent" from the Ubuntu site. When i tried to write the ISO file to the CD using Win7 burner first CD and also using Nero in the second CD.. Both the CD are not working.. It throwed some error while writing.. Am doing something wrong.. i am downloading the Ubuntu again using the torrent.

I am facing a problem with Eclipse after I installed it today. View 4 Replies View RelatedI plan to make multi boot linux DVD, with help of SarduCD software, so, I have one question. configured Linux ISO image is not as I would like, I would like to change appearance and to add some softwares, in that way I will not have to change and install it every time I use live DVD in the future. I have now already installed 4 linux in one DVD but evey time I use it, I must change and install softwares, now I want to install on DVD the newest version of Ubuntu and Kubuntu, beside puppy and some other distros, and my question is: how to edit K/Ubuntu ISO image with aim that I don't need to change anything anymore after I burn it on DVD?
I suppose I should unpack and edit ISO image (add softwares and change appearance) and after that pack it again in ISO image. Maybe it is easier to burn Ubuntu to CD, to change and install what I want, into Live CD, and then to extract such Ubuntu to ISO image, then it would be ready to burn it together with other distros into DVD?

BUT after I closed the program, when I tried to re-open it, it wouldn't load anymore. It would show that it is "Starting Tweetdeck" but it would not lead to anything - it would just close.
So I tried to uninstall everything and re-install from scratch. But the same thing happened - the program would not load.
I tried to isolate the issue by trying to install another AIR application. When I double-click on the icon or click on install using Adobe AIR, it would not run. So that only means that the issue is with Adobe AIR.
Here's what I did code...
It will then load the installer. Go through the step-by-step process until it's finished.
Install Tweetdeck again (Just double-click on its .air file).
I have burned dvds with Divx for windows and likes it because they were compatible with most dvd players out there where .AVI is not. I need to find a GUI for Divx 6.1.1 or another application that will burn Divx

I've downloaded the DVD version of Fedora 12 with a torrent so it shouldn't be corruped - checked the hash anyway and it wasn't - and I burnt it at a low speed and has my burning program verify that it did indeed burn what it was supposed to. I tested the disc for errors and every time it shows up that around the 70% mark that the DVD has an error.

Upon burning the .iso to the CD using ImgBurn, the verification of the CD (after burning) could not verify "initrd.lz". I checked that the file was there (it was about 5KB) and continued anyway (probably not a good idea but I figured I could always "Check disk for defects")
After putting the disk in, everything started up great, I selected English and when I clicked on "Check disk for defects" the entire process froze and a multicolored bar of random pixels showed up. I rebooted and tried the "Install Ubuntu" and even the F6 Other Options (checking all the options, then clicking "Install Ubuntu"). I even tried "Test Memory".
Otherwise the menu screen works fine. All F1 through F6 work, the entire help documentation works, but no installer.
I'm sort of stuck now and could use some input since this is uncharted territory for me. The computer does have a version of Windows XP in who-knows-what condition (it won't start up). I don't care about any of the information on the drive and would be fine with wiping it out because that's what I originally planned to do.
When I close the lid on my Dell Mini 9 (Ubuntu 10.04 UNR) the sysgtem freezes. Is there anything I can do to prevent this? That didn't happen with 9.04 UNR.

It starts okay and runs just fine, but when I come to closing down it doesn't do anything after I've clicked on the shut down button. The same happens with the restart button. I have been closing the system by pressing the power button on the front of my tower. I have no idea as to why it won't close ... I haven't installed any extra software, so I guess it's a system problem. Closing down by pressing the power button cannot be doing the OS any good, so I could do with a fix ASAP on this one.

I recently noticed my RAM problem. When I start any application it increases RAM usage but even after I close it RAM usage doesn't go down. Instead when I restart that application RAM usage goes up again. Using ubuntu 10.10

I want to use Ubuntu for public free (no password and no limit) and want to close program if somebody leave open firefox after 1 minute of no activity so it will back desktop page.
I tried Kubuntu and it have a nice function that not closing all programs when shutting down ("not closing" explicitly) . So if I start the Kubuntu the next day, all the program will appear in the same state. in my Ubuntu, when pressing "shut-down", a message box pops asking : "Are you sure you want to close all programs and shut down the computer?" and I press "yes" (cause you are not leaving me any choice! [the other option is "cancel"] ).
