Ubuntu Installation :: What Is A Program That Burns Images Lower Then 8X
Apr 17, 2010
I burned 2 cds using K3b and the speed was 8X, I think that is the minimum, but it didn't work so I Want to go a speed lower, what is a software that has this? And also, what is the lowest speed I should go?
How to lower the resolution of all the images in a pdf? I searched around and couldn't find an answer to this. I have a pdf file of a textbook that I use in school but each page is an image of 2 pages of the textbook (left page, right page when the book is opened) and each image is of a very high resolution. I downloaded pdftk and pdfedit but for such a simple problem, I'm having trouble. Is there any way to do this?
I have tried converting the 380 MB PDF file to PostScript but after an hour of doing that, it stopped, and the PostScript only had about 17 pages instead of the 733. So converting it back to a PDF file to utilize pdftk's algorithms would have been worthless. I know I could split up the pdf file into sections but I'd rather just scale down all the images, or make them mid quality PNGs or high quality JPGs just so the filesize can be halved.
i've downloaded this image from 3 different sources. checksums are verified. DVD image write errors out on Packagesus-pinyin-1.2.020090915-1.fc12.noarch.rpm has happened on 5 DVD writes so far has happened with Fedora-12-x86_64-DVD.iso also but on a different file. DVD writer can write other images no problem.
I tried to add my wife , and when I put in a password for her, this error comes up."Please set a valid user name consisting of a lower case letter followed by lower case letters and numbers." I did all that and I still can't set a password for her.
I'm running 9.10 nbr on this dell mini 10, which for the most part works very nicely. When I first installed it, it would sleep normally when closing the lid, and resume fine upon opening of the lid. Now when I open the lid, the first thing that's off is the mouse pointer is invisible. I can see different things dynamically highlighting as I move it around, but I can't see where it is. After a bit of that, the pointer comes back, but everything else crashes. The NBR menu deal dissappears and the desktop gets all messed up. I took a screenshot, but I don't have it available right now. I'll post it later. Eventually the whole things locks up. None of the ctr-al-fkey combos do anything- nothing. The only way to recover from this point is to do a hard reset.
I don't know if a recent update caused this problem or not. I don't use this computer every day, so I can't pinpoint exactly when this problem started- except that I firsted noticed it yesterday.
I have a lot of RAR files and ISO. Is there a program like Winrar which could open them in Linux? Cause now it only opens zip files . Also I would like to know what the best package manager is (I mean the easiest -used to use the Software Manager in Mint 9 Xfce). At last I would like to know if there is a good program to make disk images to reset the system.
I am really in need of expert help. I have started using Ubuntu last week, so a novice, and this is for my project work which needs a linux OS to install another programme (OOF).
I have installed 10.04 in an external hard disk and was able to use it without issues. While attemting istalltion of OOF it was giving me error messages and OOF forum suggested to use Ubuntu 9.04. So i have started installing 9.04 from the same external drive after uninstalling 10.04. I have used the live CD for both these installations. But Ubuntu 9.04 never completes the instalaltion. It is getting struck and aborted twice. My external drive is not partitioned and windows 32 bit is laptop -ACRE ASPIRE 5738, 250 GD HDD, Vista and 4 GB DDR.
using the update maneger to update on ubuntu new linux images available 2.6.31-17 generic and after the download is complete both images exist in the grub menu should i remove them ? or just remove them from the boot menu ? and if so how could i do each.
I am running Linux from a DVD, not installed. I am not good with installing software, but since the DVD cannot be corrupted, I am content to operate this way. Lately, I have been having problems that previously did not occur. When I try to click on the checkbox to get rid of emails, it doesn't register in most cases, or when it does, I am clicking multiple times so it registers twice, meaning it is unchecked again. Even more frustrating is some issues that are affecting my ability to update my business. I am trying to modify spreadsheets (text not calculations).
Whenever I try to click & drag to select something to change, it keeps jumping around to select only some of what I want, something else or some combination of the 2. When I try to copy and paste several fields from 1 column to another, everything from the several fields in the source column ends up together in the last field in the target column. I am also trying to download some images from a website. There is a single column of links to the images. I have to click on the link to get to the image in order to copy it, then back out to continue looking for more links to do the same.
My computer keeps jumping back 2 steps, then forward 2 steps, and sometimes I lose my place in that list. I could deal with it if it were a small number of links, but this is a list of probably close to 20,000 links. Again, i am operating off of a live DVD so this should not be corruptible, but this has just started happening, and has been an issue the last several sessions.
I know that ImageMagick's convert program can be used as follows to convert a collection of images -- say, in PNG format -- to a PDF file:
convert *png output.pdf
The problem with this is that each image is then stretched to fit on one page, whereas I would like to keep the original dimensions of the images and put as many as possible on one page in the PDF file before moving on to another page.
I am trying to install mysql 5.1.44..so i downloaded the binary package, i extracted it and then followed the instructions that were in the manual but i keep getting this error when running this command
Installing MySQL system tables... 100315 20:07:27 [Warning] Can't create test file /var/lib/mysql/mosty.lower-test 100315 20:07:27 [Warning] Can't create test file /var/lib/mysql/mosty.lower-test
I am just spent half an hour hunting for a thing that should be totally available already:USB install images of Ubuntu, knoppix and all the others. And, the only good way are so far complicated tutorials where you extract the stuff from an CD image. Why??Hasn't everybody notices that CDs/DVDs are vanishing big time? That more and more systems don't have the readers anymore? Instead of following a 10 point instruction list, it would be nice to just be able to download a Ubuntu 8.10 or whatever USB image and be able to beam that DIRECTLY to a USB stick with a dd command.
Or am a missing something here? Does this exist? It should by no means be mariginal, considering how important USB stick in specific and flash memory in general have become.
I've been playing around with arch and ubuntu in virtual box, and after many... many installs i realized it'd be practical to just image the virtual drive and do it that way.
Now of course I could just copy the vdi file, but that's cheating.
Kind of like what is normally done with norton ghost, however I don't have money to be buying it, and so it's left me curious about what utilities similar to ghost there are our there.
I dont know what the problem is ive downloaded 2 different images of ubuntu 10.10 and one for 10.04. Ive also tried the Wubi.exe download as well. everytime i try and install inside windows it gives me the error right at the end tells me that permission is denied and to check the logs. I know that im not the only one that is having this problem. I have tried to reburn the image at a slower speed only thing that i havent tried is installing using a thumb drive.
The Ubuntu website doesn't include the md5 checksums for the current 10.04 matrix. The forum announcement thread also makes no mention of these checksums. That means servers could be distributing defective isos and on day one, that could mean tens of thousands of downloads could be defective. I have to say that md5sums have been a mainstay of Linux ISO distribution for a decade, this despite whatever flaws one might find in it, yet for the last few releases of U, md5sum data are the hardest data to locate on the Ubuntu website, and on release day, they are critical.
recently i shifted to Ubuntu.I been using US patent and trademark site in windows.but after shifting to Ubuntu I'm unable to view the images as it is asking for additional plug ins required for it.
I turned on the computer this morning as usual, went into firefox, and some of the pages in the tabs look a bit strange, but i reckon they're just loading slow. Then I went into one of my sites that has images of some other sites that I designed. The images all seem to be there, so on. So I click through to one of the sites and... no images. Odd. Tried clicking where the image should be "View image" and it says firefox can't find it. Checked in ftp, the images are there and viewable.
Installed chrome and the site is perfect. Images showing up and everything.Still the same after a reboot. It makes cpanel really hard to use. Lots of sites including Facebook are just rubbish to look at (not just mine), seems the stylesheets may not be loading either in some cases. However, Ubuntu Forums is normal. In fact the whole thing is apparently completely randomAll is fine in Chrome. Is this a buggy version of firefox installed in the the latest update?
I copied memdisk from /usr/lib/syslinux/ over the to my floppy disk image (dos622.img) and booted int the grub command prompt to see if i could load the image manually. with the followinglinux /boot/memdiskinitrd /boot/dos622.img but nothing occurs, it just goes back the the command prompt. When i trylinux16 /boot/memdiskinitrd /boot/dos622.img i get "linux-bz image, setup -0x600, size 0x5apc form the linux16 command and"You need to load a kernel first" form the Initrd command.
the title says it all, mkinitramfs isnt creating proper initrd images. it used to work properly in karmic, but now i get an error saying 5: scripts/functions not found. wat does that mean? oh and also, when i boot into the new custom kernel, i am thrown into initramfs shell
I recently upgraded from 10.04 to 11.04, and when I did so images started displaying improperly in Firefox. This is an issue that is isolated to Firefox, and does not occur in Chrome, and really only occurs on Facebook. The images look as though they were taken under a blacklight. I don't know what the issue is, as I was running Firefox 4 under 10.04, and the issue did not occur then.
Subj: this probably discussed many times, could anybody provide a link to step-by-step process. Is there a simple process rather then copy packages from disks2-6 to disk1 directories?
I have a system with linux, now i am installing my own software in that system. I want to display my own software logo at the time of booting, insteed of other linux codes (related all service starting informations...). But how can i do that?
The Debian site says latest netinst images have i686 available. I only see i386, so does debian offer the i686 option during net install? Perhaps I won't see a difference between i386 and i686. 1.00 Ghz Pentium M on IBM thinkpad X40 with intel integrated graphics card
I've just created a bootdisk (ssd) with multiples Squasfs images I can choose to boot at the Grub2 menu.No I tried to put the sqfs-images into a ramdisk. Therefore I edited the script '/usr/share/initramfstools/ scripts/ casper'. I used the 'dirty hacks'in the ubuntuforums.org/boottoram howto but I suited them for my needs. Now the Systems stops after the kernel and doesn't find a root system.
The sqfs-image without the modification of the 'casper'-script still boots but doesn't load into ram completely.
I have a fedora 10 live CD currently i m running win XP with SP2 with the following configuration Pentium 4 2.4 GHz 512 MB of Ram 160 GB HDD INTEL d845 GVSR mother board
When I pop the live CD and reboot my system, the fedora 10 starts loading, it comes onto a select proper keyboard and after I clicked on the Next button tha app hangs. I used distributed CD and loaded iso images - result the same.
I installed "flash-plugin-10.0.32.18-release.i386.rpm" manually to my system in order to let firefox enable watching animated images and video ,but even though firefox still not able to do so. I'm running RHEl 5.
