I recently upgraded from 10.04 to 11.04, and when I did so images started displaying improperly in Firefox. This is an issue that is isolated to Firefox, and does not occur in Chrome, and really only occurs on Facebook. The images look as though they were taken under a blacklight. I don't know what the issue is, as I was running Firefox 4 under 10.04, and the issue did not occur then.
View 2 RepliesI have a png file which I put into a user's directory: /~user/file.png This displays OK. When placed in the user's images directory: /~user/images/file.png the file does not display. If I put the file in the global images directory: /images/file.png the file displays OK. Finally if I change the format of the file to a jpg and save it in the user's images directory: /~user/images/file.jpg the file displays OK.
When I look at the Apache access_log and error_log files, there is not even an entry if the png image file is accessed from the user's images directory.
I've been using Konqueror for years, but I hadn't ever tried playing with the Appearance > Stylesheets settings in the Settings > Options > WebBrowsing menu. Now, I'm regretting it.
Here's exactly what I did:
1. Went to that Appearance > Stylesheets and clicked on "Use accessibility stylesheet," then Customize.
2. The "Suppress Background Images" option was checked. I unchecked it, because I wanted it to display them.
3. Clicked Close, then Apply.
Then I reloaded a page, and for some reason, it wouldn't display the background images! (Odd, because I unchecked that box.) So I went back into the same menu, chose "Use default stylesheet", OK, and reloaded the page. Nothing changed. Now, every web page I go to doesn't display background images. Other than that, everything looks identical -- it's obviously loading each website's stylesheet, because all of the DIVs and such are in the right place wherever I go. Just . . . no background images.
I have a weird problem I am experiencing with my Apache 2.2 w/ ISPConfig 3 running on Debian 5.0.4. It is not a website html issue.***PROBLEM***Images are not beind displayed,javascripts are not being run, however when the site is viewed from a local source as a file(like on a USB Flash Drive) they work fine and display properly.Here is the website URL:I have removed a lot of the images and content or changed it in order to troubleshoot it myself, so the site is stripped pretty bare. There is supposed to be a logo inside the "header" <div>, which is set in the CSS file "style.css". There are supposed to be images for navigation, but they show up as red "x"'s. I removed the javascript elements and just trying to work with barebone html/css and can't seem to get it to display properly.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI turned on the computer this morning as usual, went into firefox, and some of the pages in the tabs look a bit strange, but i reckon they're just loading slow.Then I went into one of my sites that has images of some other sites that I designed. The images all seem to be there, so on. So I click through to one of the sites and... no images. Odd. Tried clicking where the image should be "View image" and it says firefox can't find it. Checked in ftp, the images are there and viewable.
Installed chrome and the site is perfect. Images showing up and everything.Still the same after a reboot.It makes cpanel really hard to use. Lots of sites including Facebook are just rubbish to look at (not just mine), seems the stylesheets may not be loading either in some cases. However, Ubuntu Forums is normal. In fact the whole thing is apparently completely randomAll is fine in Chrome.Is this a buggy version of firefox installed in the the latest update?
I installed "flash-plugin-10.0.32.18-release.i386.rpm" manually to my system in order to let firefox enable watching animated images and video ,but even though firefox still not able to do so. I'm running RHEl 5.

View 14 Replies View RelatedWhilst I like Ubuntu as an operating system and generally am fine with Firefox, could anyone explain why I sometimes get errors in trying to get through to various web pages. I don't get the same errors in IE8. As an example, my telephone billing provider; I can login on both IE8 and Firefox and get into all the screens in IE8 but not always in Firefox as happened to me 30 mins ago (I think the version installed is 3.5 on Ubuntu 9.10). There is a message at the bottom of the screen showing that Firefox is trying to connect to a sub page, but it just can't display. Is there anything that I can do to resolve this and is it an encryption issue? This isn't the first time I've had issues with Firefox. In Ubuntu 9.04 the screen used to sometimes go fuzzy when I used the firefox version there.

where the is a special/accented character. I've also been seeing the in places that seem likely to have some kind of quote mark, probably curved quotes. I can see straight single and double quotes. To correct this, I've tried changing the display font and the character encoding. I've also looked at the Mozilla Add-On site to see if I could find a plug-in to fix it, to no avail.
What should I try now? Currently I'm using Liberation Sans with UTF-8. I'm a native English speaker so I need a western encoding (I think), but I'd still like other characters to display properly.
I have been having some issues with the browsers, I use firefox and I have noticed that many of the websites I visit don't display correctly. I have attached some examples..not all sites display like that but many do.

I have Firefox 3.6 installed on slackware64-current and everything works correctly.However when I use Firefox 3.6 on slackware-current (32bit) and I do Edit -> Preferences, the window is opened but the content does not display. If I click the close button, Firefox terminates, but I can no longer get the focus onto another window and I have to restart X with Ctrl-Alt-backspace.(The same thing happens when I try to logout of LQ!). I have tried reinstalling Firefox 3.6 and jre to no avail. I have tried removing my ~/.mozilla/firefox to build a new profile. The same problem also occurs as root. I have reverted to Firefox 3.5.7 and all is OK.

I can't really see the main toolbar with file, edit, tools, etc. It crashes when I try to click add-ons in the tools drop down menu. It also makes my computer run slower and freeze up. View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 10.04, up to date, 32 bits. I tried to open a huge (10.000 x 1.200 pixels approx) Wikipedia image, and everything crashed. Nor Firefox, Gnome or anything else responded from there. Not even ctrl+alt+del, ctrl+alt+backspace, alt+F2, etc. Only the mouse moves, but rather slowly.

I could NOT replicate the problem with Chromium. However, I am not sure if the issue is only firefox since it locks up everything in ubuntu.
I've noticed that after an update, possibly a week ago, that Firefox 3.6.15 images are grainy. If you look at the attached image, you'll see that the banner is grainy and jagged. The fonts appear on this news site to be okay although frequently the fonts are messed up as well. Don't mind the personal bookmarks toolbar, I smudged it on purpose. BTW, the same page in Chromium looks as it should.

For example, photos on Facebook have negative colours, but not the thumbnail versions of the profile pictures do not. I have tried reinstalling Firefox in Synaptic to no avail. View 4 Replies View Relatedimages in firefox appear to be grainy when being displayed along with text. for example the linuxquestions.org icon on the top left corner of this very page is very grainy ( low quality ... jerky ... un-antialiased dunno how else to explain it) and the same image when opened in a separate tab ( only the image) appears to have changed its quality .. very lean and clear.
Note: this happens only on linux and in every distribution I came across including mandriva, opensuse, slackware, sidux etc.

Firefox always tries to download the picture from the web-server although it's in the cache. Resulting in an image file which contains the HTTP 404 response from the server. *lol*

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've installed Ubuntu 9.10 approx 1 week ago and it's been fine. Last night, Ubuntu froze while I was running several programs. I wasn't sure how to pull up any type of 'task manager' and the mouse didn't move so after several minutes I was forced to hard reboot the computer. Grub starts and allows me to select Ubuntu but won't get past the log-in screen (allows me to log-in but freezes immediately after hitting enter). I started the recovery mode and the errors show what I believe to be sector errors (?)Do I need to run a 'chkdsk' from Windows or re-install Ubuntu? If deleting/un-installing Ubuntu (through Wubi) is necessary, is this a problem directly related to Wubi (i.e. is a clean install on a seperate partition better than installing through Wubi)?
