1) Keyboard number keys on the right side, including backslash, plus, minus, etc. stopped working. The rest of the keyboard seems okay. It's not just this keyboard, either, because I plugged in my other keyboard and it has the same problem.
2) My mouse seems to have an intermittent problem in which it stops working for a few seconds or a minute. I can move it around the screen but I'm not able to click on anything. Sometimes if I wait long enough, it returns to normal. If I logout using the keyboard commands and log in again, it seems okay, at least until the next occurrence.
I'm running 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx. I installed a kernel update a couple of weeks ago (2.6.32-29) but I've gone back to -28 in the hope that it would solve the problem. It has not. Is there a software package I need to reinstall or some other way to revert keyboard and mouse settings to defaults?

I'm having trouble with dead keys in Emacs on Ubuntu Lucid and I'm at my wits' end. Using a standard Norwegian keyboard layout, and dead keys work fine in all Gnome applications. But Emacs just spits out messages about undefined keybindings when I use dead key combinations, for instance for tilde (~): "<dead_tilde> is undefined". This is super-annoying, since I use Emacs a lot, and I need some way to fix this.
What I've tried so far: Loading the 'iso-transl' library in Emacs seemingly makes the dead keys work, but it's not consistent across modes (works for plain text, though), and I didn't need to do this before. Also, loading this breaks Emacs' latin-1-prefix input method, for some reason. Fiddling with keyboard-preferences, iBus, im-switch xim/none/ibus, etc. Removing ~/.xinput.d directory. Fiddling with various environment variables: GTK_IM_METHOD, GTK_IM_MODULES, XMODIFIERS
Of course, I'm testing this in Emacs started with '-Q' to elminiate problems that might be caused by my own rather extensive set of initialization files. Using dead keys in Emacs has never been a problem until I upgraded to Ubuntu Lucid.

I could find on the net to fix the screen brightness keys and get them working so I could increase the screen brightness. Nothing worked. For most or many people, some of the suggestions will work fine. For those of you who can't get them to work and are stuck with Ubuntu 10.04 on the NC20 with a dimmed-out screen, I have a quick workaround:
When you boot and get to the BIOS password prompt, use the function and up-down array keys to control the brightness there. The screen brightness will be carried through to Ubuntu. You might be able to do this at the GRUB prompt. The point is that the BIOS handles the screen brightness before Ubuntu, so it just works.

For reasons I can't even begin to figure out, the number pad does NOT work.i can get the num lock light to come on, but pressing the keys there produces no love at all. Right before I installed F10, my F8 x64 had been working flawlessly for a VERY long time and I have been able to verify that the keypad still functions both with the M$ Windoze Vi$ta virus and a live Knoppix CD.Since this is the first time I have had this issue, I don't even know where to look to consider solving this.
I did try the System->Preferences->Hardware->Keyboard and all of the HP layouts listed there, but I still can't get anything more than the Num Lock light to come on and go out.

I have two machines at home. I am trying to setup the ssh server on the server machine so I can connect from the client machine with no password (keys authentication).Well, that shouldn't have been too hard, but the thing is the server user account I want to be able to connect to with keys auth has no password (that is actually the reason I want to setup keys auth). I have done everything in this guide (URL...), both alternatives, but with no success, because at some time I have to ssh the server to the user account that has no password (either with scp or ssh-copy-id) and it fails.
My question is: since I have root access on the server machine, can't I copy manually the public key from the client to the server? (doing manually what ssh-copy-id actually does).Or, maybe there is another way, to change the password on the passwordless account. I have tried with # su <acct>, then passwd, but it doesn't work (asks me for the old password). I was thinking about editing /etc/shadow manually, and inserting the hash in the password field for that account (it currently has an ! ). Would that work?

My setup is Asus EEE701SD running Maverick installed off the Live CD about 6 weeks ago. Everything worked fine until yesterday when I lost most of the keys, but not Ctrl, Alt, Home symbol, Menu symbol.
Keyboard is physically fine as it works correctly in SystemrecCD and when I boot into a recovery root shell, but not when I am running Xorg under Maverick. Keyboard layout is default US (I an in Australia). I tried using Onboard, but even that wouldn't input keystrokes into anything. I tried going in with VNC and that wouldn't work either. It seems this might be an Xorg problem, but why would it happen suddenly, seemingly without any provocation; obviously something has changed, but what... I have removed and reinstalled xserver--xorg using apt-get in a root shell and have also run dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg, but nothing has changed.

control keys aren't working most of the time in Open Office. I can copy, cut and paste with the mouse, but Control+C/X/V/Z is not working at all. I also use intellij idea, there I have the same problem, but I can use its own defined control+alt+space. I've tried Abiword, the control keys worked at the begging but then after a while when I used control+something(C/X/V/Z), it always selected everything. Besides that, the control keys are working perfectly in nautilus, terminal, firefox, chrome, gedit. I'm using Ubuntu 9.10.

After upgrading to Lucid, Mouse Keys started working erratically. For example: If I keep pressed the 4 numpad the pointer doesn't move, however, when I press 5 the click happens where it should. In short, the mouse pointer doesn't reflect MK's movements.

I have a Lenovo G550 Notebook, with a US keyboard layout (dedicated Numpad on the right). Now the quirk is.. the 'Home', 'End', 'PageUp' & 'PageDn' keys on the numpad do work in Ubuntu (They double up as 7, 1, 9 & 3 respectively, when Numlock is turned on), but what doesn't is Shift + 'Home', 'End', 'PageUp' or 'PageDn'.. Is there a setting to do this? I just have gotten used to it in Windows (for say, easily removing the typed in URL on a web-browser, using the keyboard), it seems like alls' lost without it

I'm having problems with open-office writer. back-space end all other navigation keys refuse to work...delete works fine. system runs Hardy Heron and o-office 2.4.1The problem only applies to my profile, what files should I look for concerning keyboard config? Methinks Gnome and KDE frontends kinda conflict when assigning layouts to the keyboard, but that's just my own rambling

The function keys regarding the brightness do not work on my laptop. I am using Ubuntu 10.4 Lucid Lynx LTS 32 bit version. I've looked on the internet for help regarding my laptop but I cant find any solutions regarding the brightness function keys for my laptop Sony Vaio VGN NR21S. The graphics card in my laptop is NVidia Geforce 8400M GT.
I've tried writing brightness-up and brightness down scripts along with a bash script but even those don't work. I tried Gnome Power Manager but that didn't solve any issues. The wireless and sound functions work.
Are there any solutions available for this particular laptop model?

I just bought an Apple (intl.) keyboard because of its stylish look and weight but I can't figure out how to map keys to get certain functions that I'm used to working.
Particularly Alt+Ctl+F1~6 when wanting to switch to regular terminal and print screen.
Is there a tutorial out there that explains how to map keys?

I'm using Ubuntu 9.10. All of a sudden several of my function keys stopped working and several keyboard shortcuts that I had setup involving function keys stopped working as well.
For example, when I go to preferences->keyboard shortcuts and try to set "Toggle fullscreen mode" to Alt+F11, the text "XF86AudioRaiseVolume" appears where it should just say "Alt+F11". Pressing Alt+F11 does nothing.
All of my function keys somehow got mapped to XF86AudioBlahBlah and no longer work. How do I undo this? I recently installed ffmpeg and gtk-recordmydesktop but I don't think I installed anything else.

Today I did the following:
Code: Select allapt-get upgradeapt-get dist-upgrade
After a reboot the multimedia keys are not working anymore.
Also Code: Select allxev doesn't give any output when pressing the multimedia keys.
I've also checked the packages that were upgraded, but none seems (to me) to be changing anything in regard to key events.
Code: Select allStart-Date: 2015-07-29 09:17:10
Commandline: apt-get upgrade -V
Upgrade: libasan1:amd64 (4.9.3-2, 4.9.3-3), gdisk:amd64 (1.0.0-2, 1.0.0-3), cpp-4.9:amd64 (4.9.3-2, 4.9.3-3), libstdc++-4.9-dev:amd64 (4.9.3-2, 4.9.3-3), libpanel-applet0:amd64 (3.16.1-3, 3.16.1-4), python-debianbts:amd64 (1.12, 1.13),
[Code] ....
I'm on the Debian testing branch. Initially I used xfce, but am now using i3.
Why there are no events after the upgrade? Maybe I should downgrade some of the above packages?

I just installed fc12 on a Dell Latitude E6500 laptop. Everything is fine except that my Left and Up arrow keys are inactive so .e.g. I can't review bash history.
In the "keyboard preferences" GUI the keyboard model is "evdev-managed keyboard" (although I have also tried without success the model specific for this laptop) and the only layout is "USA".
Have done an update of all packages without fixing this problem.

I'm running Kubuntu 10.10, with KDE 4.5.2, what I've noticed is every so often my Tab, Caps, Shift, Ctrl, Alt, Super keys stop working. I'd been running Ubuntu 10.04 with Gnome and hadn't ever come across this issue. I'm not sure if this is related to KDE 4.5.2 or is possibly because I updated to 10.10 and would also occur on a Gnome environment. If I switch to my virtual machine (VMWare Workstation 7.1.2 build-301548 which I was able to get working on 10.10 using URL.... the keys work within that but if I switch back to my host desktop they stop working. To fix it I've found logging out or unplugging the keyboard and plugging it into a different USB port fixes it.
