Ubuntu :: Stop Remote Simulating Keyboard Arrow Keys?
Oct 11, 2010I have updated to 10.10 and now my ir remote is simulating keyboard arrow keys which is causing problems in applications like Boxee. The weird thing is if I stop lircd it still simulates the keyboard arrow keys.
Does anyone know how to stop the keyboard arrow keys from triggering when the ir remote up, down, left or right buttons are pressed?

Ubuntu :: Keys Tab / Caps / Shift / Ctrl / Alt / Super Stop Working.
Oct 16, 2010I'm running Kubuntu 10.10, with KDE 4.5.2, what I've noticed is every so often my Tab, Caps, Shift, Ctrl, Alt, Super keys stop working. I'd been running Ubuntu 10.04 with Gnome and hadn't ever come across this issue. I'm not sure if this is related to KDE 4.5.2 or is possibly because I updated to 10.10 and would also occur on a Gnome environment.If I switch to my virtual machine (VMWare Workstation 7.1.2 build-301548 which I was able to get working on 10.10 using URL.... the keys work within that but if I switch back to my host desktop they stop working.To fix it I've found logging out or unplugging the keyboard and plugging it into a different USB port fixes it.

May 17, 2010I'm using Ubuntu 9.10. All of a sudden several of my function keys stopped working and several keyboard shortcuts that I had setup involving function keys stopped working as well.
For example, when I go to preferences->keyboard shortcuts and try to set "Toggle fullscreen mode" to Alt+F11, the text "XF86AudioRaiseVolume" appears where it should just say "Alt+F11". Pressing Alt+F11 does nothing.
All of my function keys somehow got mapped to XF86AudioBlahBlah and no longer work. How do I undo this? I recently installed ffmpeg and gtk-recordmydesktop but I don't think I installed anything else.

May 26, 2011I've been making some progress with my new Dell Inspiron n5110 and the OpenSUSE 11.4. After searching through the net I found some drivers to get my laptop going. Now I'm facing the following problem: I want to adjust the audio volume using a special key combination on my laptop(fn+F11 to rise, fn+F12 to lower, and another key that works as mute). Although the sound itself works fine, when I use these keys the have no effect on the volume. It stays exactly the same. Some I ask myself are the drivers for the sound card installed? In "Playback Devices" there are two devices: Internal audio analog stereo(which is the one that is working) and GF108 High Definition Audio Controller Digital Stereo(HDMI). The lsusb provides:

Ubuntu :: 10.04 Mouse And Keyboard Stop Working?
Jun 7, 2010I was having a problem with the mouse and keyboard randomly failing to work after upgrading to version 10.04. I tried both the 32 and 64 bit versions. The problem went away after I edited the file /etc/default/grub and changed the following line:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash noapic nolapic"
If you are unable to open a terminal window, try doing the following
Ctrl+Alt+F1
Log into you account.
sudo nano /etc/default/grub
After saving your changes and exiting nano you can reboot by using the halt command.(FYI Ctrl+Alt+F7 gets you back into X server -- but you need to reboot for the change to take effect) Update: problem recurred. I had to do Ctrl+Alt+F1 to log into a console. I executed 'ps aux | more' to find the PID for X.Using the PID I restart X with 'sudo kill -S SIGTERM <PID>'.Once it started up again it was fine.

2) My mouse seems to have an intermittent problem in which it stops working for a few seconds or a minute. I can move it around the screen but I'm not able to click on anything. Sometimes if I wait long enough, it returns to normal. If I logout using the keyboard commands and log in again, it seems okay, at least until the next occurrence.
I'm running 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx. I installed a kernel update a couple of weeks ago (2.6.32-29) but I've gone back to -28 in the hope that it would solve the problem. It has not. Is there a software package I need to reinstall or some other way to revert keyboard and mouse settings to defaults?

Aug 4, 2015I'm running a SuperMicro GPU server with nvidia GFX 750 card. Debian Sid with last update this morning. The server is far away from the screen. So i'm using 5m active USB 2.0 cable with one Belkin powered hub. All USB device work always correctly.
But sometimes, my keyboard (a logitech illuminated) doesn't work anymore. I need to disconnect and reconnect it. Backlight keep on but no key work. I can't change the numlock or caps lock too.
Apparently, this appear mainly (only?) when i use the keyboard (for shortcut or typing text in vim).
I've tried with and without autosuspend (setting manually or from GRUB).

Aug 28, 2009I randomly started up my laptop one day and the mouse and keyboard stopped responding once GDM's login screen came up. Everything works fine from the console, but even if I run startx from the login shell the mouse and keyboard do not work, even though everything else in GNOME runs perfectly.
I am using an HP dv6426us laptop running Ubuntu 9.04 (i686 architecture with the 2.6.28-15-generic kernel). Below is a copy of my xorg.conf file, just in case there might be something wrong with that. I will try and put more information on, but seeing as I have to use a different computer to post this thread, copying over log files and stuff is difficult for the moment (though I am going to try and copy them over to a flash drive).

Slackware :: XFCE Keyboard Shortcuts Stop Working
May 22, 2010I'm running XFCE on slackware64-current. I've had this problem for a number of months now. Every so often, XFCE will decide to not recognize key combinations that are mapped to keyboard shortcuts. For example, hitting ALT+F2 will not bring up the xfrun4 dialog box. This happens to all of my keyboard shortcuts (e.g., volume keys).
For now, I've resorted to going into the keyboard shortcut settings and double-clicking on each assignment and then hitting ok. This seems to correct whatever corruption is occurring. What's even more unusual is that all of the settings appear to be intact in the settings box and even in the .xml file.

Jun 17, 2010I'm running Fedora 12 on a Shuttle SN78SH7. Updates are all current from the Fedora repositories. I'm using the Nouveau driver for the Shuttle's on-board Nvidia graphics adapter. At random intervals (1 to 5 times per day), my USB keyboard and the buttons on my USB mouse stop working and the desktop freezes (i.e. GKrellm graphical data stops updating, partially painted windows don't complete). However, I can still move the mouse pointer around the desktop. This only seems to happen when I am actually using the computer from the console. It has never happened while the system was turned on, but not being used.
When the mouse and keyboard stop working, I can log in from another computer via ssh. Once the computer gets in this state, the only way to fix things is either to reboot remotely using ssh or to cycle power. I've run low level hardware diagnostics - everything checks out OK. This computer only has USB and firewire inputs. No PS2 jacks.

May 11, 2010My mouse has been intermittently working on the new 10.04 install. Sometimes it works fine, but other times it is tweaked out moving really fast up, down, left, or right. If I log out or reboot sometimes the problem goes away. I just logged into my windows partition and it is working just fine. So I doubt that it's my mouse and am sure its a software thing. It's really annoying, and it might even be my keyboard too sometimes chrome just wants to infinitely scroll down pages.

Now, intermittently with no obvious cause, yhe Synaptics driver fails to load at boot resulting in a dead touchpad. I've tried altering my xorg.conf with no results. When it works it works great. Just seems to be no rhyme or reason for it. When it's not working and I try to run synclient I get an error that the synaptics module is not loaded. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or is it just me?

Ubuntu :: Keyboard Keys Type Different Letters?
Aug 8, 2011Yesterday, after browsing for a while, my keyboard suddenly started to show different characters than typed. The keys are just typing different letters than pressed. For example, the j displays a 1, the k displays a 2, and so on. This only happens on the x server. On the terminal, before starting the x server, the keyboard works just fine.
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10.

Oct 20, 2010Ive been running ssh to log into server for long time. Recently a x-win app reported that it suspects a man in the middle attack (MiMA), so I want to tighten this up, but it seems to me if there is a MiM, then the initial key exchange is vulnerable to a substitution. This is on solaris, but since its a basic concept I'm ot getting, it shouldnt matter,
Here's the gist of what I read:
- create users key pair,
- enable host authentication (ssh_config file on client and sshd_config file on remote host)
- start an ssh session and accept the remote hosts key (and I assume the remote host will take client users key and store some where)
Questions:
1. What's to stop the MIM from making a substitution of keys during the initial exchange?? Shouldn't the keys be initially transfered in a more secure fashion??
2. Does the server just accept new keys from any existing user who want to create an ssh session? So if some one knows a username and password (such as the owner of an application they know is running) couldn't they just create their own keypair and have the server accept them?

Jul 10, 2011When I swap my left alt with my left win key using the gnome keyboard layout options, the swap only works intermittently. I have an aluminum Apple keyboard with no numpad. No matter what layout options I choose, I can't seem to get it working.I also have the same setup on my laptop and work desktop and it works without issue. I've ensured my .Xmodmap doesn't exist.When I say "works intermittently" I mean when I'm trying to use "alt+b, alt+f" navigation in emacs or bash, it doesn't work but if I click around a bit then try again, it works. Also, I use alt+arrows to switch workspaces and that always works
