View 1 RepliesI have installed Ubuntu and all is working Ok except when I try to add the suggested updates it is telling me I do not have enough free space. When I set it up I gave Ubuntu a 10GB partition but it does not seem to have worked. How can I add the suggested updates.

Remaining disconnected solves this problem. Is there any way to avoid this and install without downloading files other than apt lists?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter several crashes during videos it seemed like a good idea to fsck root. Downloaded the latest systemrescuecd and ran it at boot. The error message was 'bad magic number, corrupt superblock' with a suggested command to try another superblock. That failed with the same message. Tried tune2fs to force fsck at boot and got the same message. The drive is less than 6 months old and the installed system is working more or less ok. The command I used was 'fsck.ext4 /dev/sdc2'. What am I doing wrong?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install wine. First I'm not a hot shot Linux guy. I tried to follow the download instructions for wine.
1. I downloaded wine_gecko-1.2.0-x86.msi to /usr/share/wine/gecko and downloaded wine-1.3.17-1.1.i586.rpm to /usr/share/wine
When I try to install I get message that wine_gecko version>= to 1.1 is needed.
Whenever I boot up Fedora 15 on Virtual Box, I get the message " gnome 3 could not load " and I installed all the packages needed to install Guest Additions, but even when I mounted the file, the ONLY file I could find online that was VMBoxGuestAdditions.iso or something like that, I mounted it, I tried installing, but nope, it gives me an error message that it can't. I have the latest version of VirtualBox and I've been on several forums and looked at many places but I can't fix it. I also have a problem where when I boot it up it says " the system is optimized to support 32 bit but it is currently 64 bit go here and click this to fix it " or something like that. and I can't figure out how to fix it in Virtual Box.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor some reason Update Manager is not installing updates as of yesterday.I have it set to check daily and notify if updates are available. It has been working without issues for well over a year now.
Update Manager tells me updates are available and presents the list of security, recommended, and other updates. All are selected to update, but when I select Install Updates in Update Manager it returns with a Reading Package Information window overlaid on the main Update Manager window - building dependency tree then reading state information and dumps me back to the main Update Manager window without performing any update actions.
Ubuntu 10.10 did download the updates when first installed but has never updated since. When I try manually I get the message, failed check internet connection which is working OK. How can I get around this.

I'm going round everyone I know installing Ubuntu on their computers whether they like it or not, and I must say so far they all like it except. I have to spend 5 hours downloading and installing all the software they need to make their system run 'as good as windows'.
I really need a whole bunch of popular programmes to put on a disk and install as I go. I know Ubuntu saves the downloads in a repository on the hard drive, but looking at it I am sometimes at a loss as to which folders contain which downloads, then there is the problem of multiple folders for one programme etc.or point me in the direction of a zipped up file with all the programmes a normal user might need.

I get prompted to delete the files, clearing up xx space on my hard disk. I continue answering Y to the question to keep going. I get a message saying the removal was completed. But when logging in now and reinstalling postfix and dovecot I got the same configurations I had yesterday. Is there some explenation for the configs still being on the machine?
I have just installed electric sheep on my 10.10 installation. I am having trouble installing the packs on it. The screensaver is in the /usr/share directory, which is owned by root. From what I heard, this account is disabled by default.how can I enable it so that I can have access to the /share/ directory so I can copy all the AVIs in there?
