View 4 RepliesWe're doing a web gui with extjs & flash chart. The problem is a drilldown menu from flash chart to some other page. The drilldown menu is working fine on all other os & browser, but not on 64bit centos 5.x & ff 3.0 or 3.5, which we need to support. It's always behind the flash chart. With the firefox coming with 64bit centos 5.x (which I believe it's a 64bit firefox), all of them are not working. But the weird thing is, with some newly installed centos 5.4, if I use a firefox 3+ downloaded from mozila/firefox official site (I guess it's a 32bit firefox).
The drilldown menu works fine. However with some other centos 5.4 which are upgraded from centos 5.2, the drilldown menu won't work. Please see the attached screenshots for the detailed info. I've tried many things, tried latest 32bit flash plugin, tried 64bit flash plugin, tried updating the nspluginwrapper (according to [URL]) and several other things. None of them works. From adobe tech note [URL].
"Note: The WMODE parameter is supported only on some browser/Flash Player version combinations. If the WMODE parameter is not supported, the Flash movie will always display on top. Refer to TechNote 14201 for details."
I understand that not all the os & browser & flash version combinations support WMODE, but it really bugs me that with almost the same os (64bit centos 5.4), the same firefox (32bit v3.5.5 downloaded from getfirefox.com), the same flash plugin (32bit v10.0.r32), why some of them can see the javascript menu on top of flash chart, but some of them will always be behind the flash chart?
I can't access the web interface for cups to install a printer on Ubuntu server 10.4 tell me how to get it working right or i'll just throw the computer out the window and go with windows server, a much better, user-friendly product, like all Microsoft creations

Both browsers can be started and showed websites normaly. But no javascript, even simple tests like [URL] failed. I started elink with ./elink and typed then the url.
View 4 Replies View RelatedDid an upgrade today from 9.04 to 9.10. As far as I can tell, everything is working, with the exception of Firefox 3.5.6 with new install. I've attempted an uninstall and install. Tried the following with 3.5.6:URL...I finally found that if I use sudo (or gksudo) I can run firefox at the command prompt. Any other time I run it, it just shows an icon on the lower bar and then it disappears, but within the system monitor it shows Firefox and will show as many as you run the icon with.
I've deleted the entire .mozilla directory, and manually removed all the firefox info fro /usr/bin also before a reinstall. I assume it is either a strange permission issue or some link related issue."which firefox" shows:/usr/bin/firefox and the 3.5.6 files are located /usr/lib/firefox-3.5.6 . Any help would be great, I'm at a loss at this point. I'm sure it's something simple, but it's a royal PITA.I have nxserver on the machine, if that means anything and there was a session locally as well as one remote during the upgrade (using the same account).
I've got a toshiba A135 series. I installed 9.10 from a live cd, and the installation process went fine.
When I rebooted the computer, it loaded up giving me the option to select one of the following:
Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-14-generic
Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-14-generic (recovery mode)
Memory text (memtest86+)
Memory test (memtest86+, serial console 115200)
I chose the first one, hit enter and the computer went to a black screen with the cursor up in the top left corner blinking away. Then nothing. I've read that this distribution is giving folks a lot of trouble. Has anyone had this same thing happen to them after a clean install?
I recently had ubuntu as my main operating system on my computer, but that wasn't working out because iTunes just does not work on ubuntu. So I started to try to dual boot windows XP, but when I tried to create the partition, all of them crapped out on me, so now I'm left with a computer boot anything, it just goes straight to error loading operating system. Now I can't get the one folder that I need off of the ubuntu installation because I don't have permission too.

I have enabled desktop effects in KDE on Fedora 10.
I clicked "everything is OK", and accepted the settings and then everything went black ...
Then I have restarted X, logged again, still nothin' ... all black .... windows and action is present, but I can't see anything ...
How can I recover this ? I am using gnome now, ...
I'm having trouble with dead keys in Emacs on Ubuntu Lucid and I'm at my wits' end. Using a standard Norwegian keyboard layout, and dead keys work fine in all Gnome applications. But Emacs just spits out messages about undefined keybindings when I use dead key combinations, for instance for tilde (~): "<dead_tilde> is undefined". This is super-annoying, since I use Emacs a lot, and I need some way to fix this.
What I've tried so far: Loading the 'iso-transl' library in Emacs seemingly makes the dead keys work, but it's not consistent across modes (works for plain text, though), and I didn't need to do this before. Also, loading this breaks Emacs' latin-1-prefix input method, for some reason. Fiddling with keyboard-preferences, iBus, im-switch xim/none/ibus, etc. Removing ~/.xinput.d directory. Fiddling with various environment variables: GTK_IM_METHOD, GTK_IM_MODULES, XMODIFIERS
Of course, I'm testing this in Emacs started with '-Q' to elminiate problems that might be caused by my own rather extensive set of initialization files. Using dead keys in Emacs has never been a problem until I upgraded to Ubuntu Lucid.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to run Ubuntu 9.10 from a USB drive on an old laptop with a dead hard disk.An added complication is that it does not support USB boot, only CD boot.So with the help of URL..., I am running grub from a cd and then booting the kernel from the USB (or something like that).
The problem is that after I do this, I get about 6 minutes of error messages as the kernel tries unsuccessfully to read my dead hard disk ("buffer I/O error on /dev/fd0" or something like that). I can post again if the specific error message would be useful. (But it takes so long to reboot that i'd rather not). I can tell it is trying to access my hard disk as I hear the disk occasionally spinning (it intermittently spins and does not spin). After many failures, the system successfully boots and runs from the USB drive.I tried removing the hard disk from the machine entirely, but this triggers an ASPI error and the kernel hangs.So ideally I would like to modify the kernel command line above to instruct it to ignore the hard disk. I read some kernel documentation but it proved a little bit too advanced for me.
Since I started using Fedora 10 I can't login as root. Even though the system recognizes the root password when it requires it for certain administrative tasks it refuses to let me login as root.
When I try to edit httpd.conf I get the message "could not save file..." it doesn't even prompt me for the root password. My httpd service is dead and I can't resurrect it, what should I do?
I find myself in the strange position of having an old P4 system that I want to throw Fedora 10 on - it's a considerable upgrade from the old 866Mhz P3 that I've been using to do some number crunching on. (It's a personal project, but it's CPU intensive, so the P4 is a welcome upgrade.) My problem with it is that the motherboard's AGP socket is dead, and I can't find a PCI graphics card, so I'm trying to do a totally headless install - I have no idea what errors may be shown, if any. All I know is that whatever I've tried up till now hasn't worked.
1. Remove the hard drive from the P4, stick it into a spare, semi working system (AMD Athlon, RAM isn't working too well), install F10 on the hard drive, remove the drive, put it back into the P4, and let it boot. Results: Nothing. No DHCP announcement, so I don't know if it's done anything.
2. Try a variation of a PXE boot using the vnc parameter. I've copied the instructions here with no luck. Tried it using a nearby mirror (mirror.nus.edu.sg) as well as method=cdrom, with no luck on either. Results: Also nothing.Should I give up on this, or is there anything else I should try?
Flash is no longer working in Mozilla Firefox after the most recent flash plugin update. I couldn't find any information on it.

It works in setting up my bios, and has always worked before, but I cannot choose any items on the installation menu. I found a bug report that seems to be this issue, but it said that this would be fixed when debian moves to the 2.6.32 kernel on the installer.

I searched on the web with "can I install 8GB memory on dell inspiron 530", and got couple of articles that says I only needed a bios upgrade.I downloaded bios version 1.0.18 from dell and run that in Windows to replace bios 1.0.12.After it said upgrade successful and asked me whether I wanted to reboot to have the new bios taking effect, and I said yes. And it shutdown the computer, and never came up Now, when power up, I see nothing, not even the "F2 to setup, F12 to boot menu" message, much less the grub selection. Is there a way to revive the computer?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy Dell Latitude D820 had lenny installed and working fine. I did not have anything exotic installed (other than perhaps nividia drivers). I went about upgrading to squeeze following the notes/documentation on the debian web site. During this process it mentioned that the following firmware was not going to be installed (as it is not freeware; BTW I had non-free in my sources.list):

On reboot it was clear that the new kernel was not in a healthy state. Even when booting with older kernels I had serious stability issues. After about half a dozen reboots trying to resolve problems I was experiencing the laptop would not even load the Dell splash screen on power up. I could not even navigate into the BIOS. Nothing appeared on the monitor (or external monitor).
I put an ISO disk in the DVD drive to see if it would boot from the DVD; it seems to load but absolutely nothing appeared on the screen. I tried navigating the grub menu (not displayed) and load my windows partition. When it booted to the point where windows would normally display the GUI it flashed several times and displayed a 'BSOD' with the following message:
*** Hardware Malfunction.
Call your hardware vendor for support
NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error
*** The system has halted ***
It looks like my laptop is now FUBAR. It is out of warranty so any fix is likely to be DIY. Any ideas on how to resolve this?
I have a problem with the openoffice 3.1, install it and I worked fine in Fedora 14, but I restart the system and no longer works. nothing happens with any file.

View 5 Replies View RelatedRecently I did a dist-upgrade to 9.10, figured my sound and video problem of the live CD may have been fixed as i last tried on the last Beta.It has been working (mostly) for the last few days, i say mostly as it likes to disable my wifi quite frequently and only editing a blacklist file fixes it.Today i have booted and got to my Grub menu, then i get a black screen for a while before getting a message about the /dev/disk/by-uuid/f49b68fd-a095-402c-a068-82a6b40f2aed does not exist. Then it dumps me to a Busybox shell and leaves me with a (initramfs) prompt.Can anyone tell me what on earth is going on, the disks have not been changed by me (via fdisk or anything) and it has already fired up into 9.10 a couple of times in the last few days.

View 3 Replies View RelatedToday I tried installing 4 known working servers (which were running CentOS) with Debian 6 (x86 and x64). They are all of the same brand.After installing (which went fine) I rebooted the first server: the BIOS POST hangs at 78% and was not going any further. Powercycle again, CMOS wipe by removing the battery of the motherboard, replacing cables, reseating components, and so on. After rebooting the second server: same issue. POST hangs at 78%. As I can't get into the BIOS setup or PXE boot/USB boot I'm really wondering whats going on. All 4 servers are now "wrecked" in this way. I used the Debian netinstall image, and installed from various sources, like the surfnet and leaseweb mirror.Anybody any ideas about this? Does Debian 6 do anything firmware related during install?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 from 8.04. It installed Firefox 3.6.6, and now I and many others have no sound in any internet online javascript games nor in anything else that uses javascript for sound on the internet. I also have one site with a small javascript video issue (fails to fully load a gif image that is loaded by javascript).
The upgrade gave me the openjdk for java. I had no sound as described with firefox 3.6.6 and js. I uninstalled that and installed the sun-java6. This did not help. The problem is not java at all. It the fault solely of that version of Firefox. I also messed up someone else's Hardy 8.04 by allowing their computer to also upgrade to this version of Firefox. This was the only thing upgraded- the only change.
Does anyone know how to revert to Firefox 3.5 or even 3.1? I need all the steps. I have to do this in both Ubuntu 10.04 and in Ubuntu 8.04. It is unacceptable to wait for Mozilla to put out a browser update that really works. It may never happen.
I also need to know how to prevent the 3.5 from being upgraded through update manager after I get a working version back.
I found a work around for the Firefox problem in 10.04. that was to install the Google Chrome Browser which does work with javascript sound. That browser is also very fast. I cannot do this for the other computer having Ubuntu 8.04. It is not in synaptic package manager like it is in 10.04. I still want it in the computer that has 8.04 if Firefox can't be fixed.

I figured including an iframe and reloading it with javascript would be the best bet. So to see if it works I wrote this test code. But it doesnt reload the iframe every 2 seconds. i think something has broken javascript in my chromium installation. I've tried updating chromium and reinstalling/updating my java installation. Neither of these has helped. To give you an idea of the behavior I'm seeing this page does not have buttons, but pictures of all the buttons. Clicking them does nothing. Also, gmail's regular interface will not load. Functionality seems entirely normal (so far) in firefox.
