Ubuntu :: Install QtiPlot 0.9.8.6 In Lucid?
May 26, 2011
trying to install a more recent version of QtiPlot in lucid (10.04)? I need an update of QtiPlot because the one available on lucid by default (0.9.8.2) is unable to open some origin files I have, and the newer version are (I've tested under a virtual machine with Natty installed).

I'm running an AMD 64 system with 4 gigs of ram, and only have 32 bit windows. Since the update to Lucid I have yet to have it work properly. Every time I've tried to install it it ether over wrights my boot file, and I lose windows (a few programs I have to have in there)when I try a standard install or it fails to boot when I do the Wubi install. Is there any where I can re download the previous 46 bit version? I seam to have lost the ISO.

so i just did a fresh install of lucid last night. it went relatively well, but there's a few minor issues.. one of them being that i can't install certain software from ubuntu software center because it tells me that the program isn't offered for amd64.
for example, when i try to install skype, it tells me
Quote:
Sorry, 'skype' is not available for this type of computer (amd64).
i even downloaded the 64 bit skype from the website, but when it doesn't want to install that either and just leaves me with a broken package.
the thing is, these programs that won't install with lucid worked perfectly with karmic.. so i guess it has something to do with lucid..

Anyone know if it's possible to install FreeNX in Lucid.
I've tried but get an error.
These are the steps I followed code...
Is there anyway to get this installed? Do I need to wait for FreeNX to be updated for Lucid or something? Or does anyone have any suggestion for a RDP server and client? I don't want to use VNC it's too laggy.

In case anybody is battling to install Kexi database front end in Lucid Lynx, you have to first enable kubuntu ppa beta repository. Enter the following in terminal:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/beta
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install kexi

I don't know exactly why the Ubuntu developers keep the Evolution version to 2.28 instead of version 2.30 like the rest of Gnome in 10.04. But here is how to upgrade evolution to version 2.30. I think this version is way more stable than the previous version 2.28. And more important to me, the evolution-mapi plugin is way more stable.
Here is the howto:

Running Lucid, if I want to do some work with PHP, do I need to install it first or is it already there? (If it is there, I can't find it.) If I do need to install, how exactly do I do that? I did a search for PHP in Synaptic, but I had no idea what exactly I should be installing.

When you install Ubuntu, you will typically install a complete desktop environment. It is also possible to install a minimal set of software (just enough to boot your machine) and then manually select the precise software applications to install. Such a "custom" install is usually favoured by server administrators, who prefer to keep only the software they absolutely need on the server.
I have never personally noticed any sections in the install to allow you to do a custom minimal install, is this possible in Lucid? If so how, or do I need to download just a mini install iso?

I have created a partition through Boot Camp, downloaded the 64 bit Intel installer for PC and Mac, verified the checksum, burned a CD from its image (on the second try), but when I try to boot up from that CD, rEFIt refuses because of a "legacy" problem. I assumed it would be a live CD, from which I could do the installation; am I wrong, is there another way to install from it? My MacBook Pro 5,3 is the one exception to having its own installation page.

When I try to install vmware-player it complains that it can't find the kernel headers for my running kernel (2.6.31-20-generic) to compile its modules. I did have this working on 9.10. No amount of googling revealed the name of the package I need to get this working in Lucid.

I have been running 64 bit Koala on an HP desktop with 8 GB for a few months. Now that Lucid is out and the kernel has stopped changing every three days, I thought I would do a clean install of 64 bit Lucid. Backed everything up, verified the .iso I downloaded a few days ago and burned a CD, and away we go. Everything seems clean, finds the old /home, asks for a restart. I say go.
Suddenly there are way more options on my grub menu. Every Linux option has an alternate with PAE, and the PAE option is the default boot. I didn't even think about it and let it take the default. The reboot hangs. I had to pull the plug to turn the machine off.
I reboot again with PAE. It hangs again. Pull the plug. Reboot without PAE and I'm golden. Google soon turns up all sorts of old advice to add noapic to the boot parameters on a PAE kernel. Instead I sat back and started thinking.
Am I doing with a kernel marked PAE in the first place? This is a 64 bit install. It doesn't need PAE. I look again at the .iso and it's 64 bit.
Code:
Looks like 64 bit to me.
Why I have PAE options that will not boot?

I recently upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 (colossal mistake) on my MacBook Pro and lost sound. In my effort to get it back, I ended up trashing the installation, so I formatted and installed Lucid from scratch. When I try to run the foxit that I re-installed from Foxit's website, I get absolutely nothing? I ran through the install using a number of instructions and still get the same result - basically an executable that does nothing.

I'm trying to install 10.04 server into a virtual machine using virtualbox. When I start the virtual machine and try to install using the server ISO, I get the following error:
Code:
This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU. Unable to boot Here is my cpuinfo from lshw:
Code:

description: CPU
product: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+

The host OS is 32bit Lucid Lynx desktop, and virtualbox works fine with a Win7 guest. Does anyone know why this might be happening?

I upgraded to Lucid from Jaunty on a 3 1/2 year old toshiba Satellite by doing a clean install. There is no sound anywhere. I had no sound problems with Jaunty. I ran the alsa upgrade script from this site:
[URL]
There was no change I could see after this was done.
In sound preferences>
hardware--there are no entries;
input--the input volume is shaded
output--the entry is Dummy Output stereo
The alsamixer shows only the pcm control, there are no capture controls. In select sound card (F6) I selected HDA ATI SB (default was only other choice). I have Linux Mint 9 (based on Lucid) on a Dell mini-9 and the sound works.

I tried Intrepid on this computer a few years back, and remember sweating over my computer for days trying to get the sound to work, before eventually giving up and going back to Windows. Now I figured I'd give it a second go. 100% fresh install, Lucid Lynx. I was hoping maybe the new version would have fixed whatever I was having trouble with before. No such luck. Have checked that nothing is muted, in the tray icon and in alsamixer and in a bunch of others. Have made sure that I'm in all the proper groups.
"aplay -l" gives me:

I'd like to upgrade libssl to 0.9.8l version on my Lucid-based server, because of CVE-2009-3555 - they say that 0.9.8l disables SSL renegotiation, fixing the security issue. But there is no 0.9.8l in Ubuntu repositories - only 0.9.8k-7 is available. how can I upgrade this library? BTW. it is really strange why such significant security fix is not available in Ubuntu repositories. why it is not available?

I'm trying to install Lucid to an older PC, but it constantly freezes during the setup. Most of the time I can't even select whether I want to install or to try the OS, but sometimes I get past that. Once I got to the point where the installation was copying the files to the hard drive, but it froze once again at 5%. The PC's config is: 1,8 GHz AMD processor, 768 MB DDR1 memory, 200 GB HDD, ATI 9200 VGA and a DVD drive. According to the minimum reqs for lucid this should be more than enough, yet Lucid froze once while in Live CD mode. Should I try an older ubuntu version? Or could this be something more serious, ie hardware issue in which case you guys can't help.

Does anyone know of a decent Ubuntu networking tutorial I can work through? I'm struggling to get a new install of Lucid to see anything on my home network.
The current state of play is:
I can browse the internet and the router.
I have several laptops running Ubuntu and a NAS drive but the HP desktop PC with the new Lucid installation can't see them.
The NAS and the HP are wired to the router.
I installed Lucid because I never got Maverick to see the network either.
Lucid on my laptop can see the NAS drive over wireless.
I can see the NAS drive but not the other machines if I boot the HP into WinXP.
I'm not much good at XP networking either so perhaps that needs configuring too. A decent tutorial would be useful, especially one that doesn't assume I have Windows machines on the network as we rarely use Windows now.
