i wonder is any way available for replacing bluetooth manger of lucid with natty one?cause as i concerned natty bluetooth manger recognized my corby samsung mobile as a gprs modem while lucid wont.
View 3 RepliesI have been looking for a solution to an apparently simple problem, but could not find anything for Lucid. All solution I found imply modifying files that apparently don't exist anymore (/etc/default/bluetooth, /etc/bluetooth/hid.conf, ...)I have an old laptop running Xubuntu (lucid). Internet card is dead but it has a bluetooth adapter in the USB port. I also have another laptop with internet, wireless, and bluetooth on board. How can I configure both so that the first access the internet trough the second?
- Internet works on the second (of course!)
- Bluetooth work on both, I can pair them and send file from one to the other (although I cannot browse them, but it seems to be an unrelated problem)
- I have blueman on both and tried to configure it to do what I want but it did not work (old computer has a bnep0 interface, but no address for it)
- Old laptop sees "Network access point" and "group network" as bluetooth services of new laptop (although I did uncheck "group network" in the local services setting on new laptop)
- as I said I looked on the web but only found solutions that appear to be designed for older versions of Ubuntu because they refer to non existing files on my two laptops.
My laptop (eMachines D730) has bluetooth but Natty does not detect it. Is there any way to enable bluetooth in Natty? Should I download drivers for it?

Moments ago I was using, as always, my bluetooth devices on my Macbookpro4,1 and suddenly the icon disappeared and my devices disconected. I thought the daemon just crashed so I tried to restart but I got a command not found error. I opened the Bluetooth preference dialog and it said that no bluetooth device was present on the system. I restarted and same result.
As a last measure I completely pruged bluez and gnome.bluetooth and reinstalled. Same result.
i ve upgraded to natty 64 bit and have painstakingly re-configured my prev desktop settings (as in maverik) abd now i am held up on 2 items for which i have not found any solution.
a) bluetooth does not detect my nokia n 70 (n 70 detects my laptop but i cant send or receive any files unless it is paired)
b) alternatively when i try to send a file from nokia, it asks for pairing and i key in the pin. then the window hangs and i have to log out and log in. in bluetooth paired deviced i can find my nokia but i cant configure it to connect to the internet...
c) in office i have to connect through a proxy. i am not able to apply it system wide (as the option network proxy is not shown)
I have Ubuntu 10.04 LTS installed on a Dell Desktop with a USB Bluetooth dongle.
I have a bluetooth device, whose security is based upon searching not for the bluetooth service name but a renamed bluetooth service. The device comes with instructions on how to do it with a small subset of Windows XP machines but I feel like this should be a simple thing to do here.
Is there a simple way to either add an extra bluetooth service on a different name? Change the current bluetooth name? Ubuntu has a wiki that led me to the bluetooth preferences window and a services tab but that doesn't seem to exist in 10.04.
where to go in GUI or command line tools that will help with this?

I have Blueman Device Manager that enabled SPP (Serial Port) and it says :

When i connect to my laptop a bluetooth usb stick, the bluetooth could not be turned on.

The bluetooth manager does not detect a bluetooth dongle .trying to use ndiswrapper to fix.I installed device manager and the results are shown below.i downloaded the windows driver suite. It has 4 .exe self extracting driver archives and a setupconfig.ini. The .ini file is below.I was able to extract one of the 32bit archives on a windows machine and it had about 8 .inf files that are titled weird and would not install properly using ndiswrapper probably because im using the 64-bit architecture. there are 2 64bit .exe's in the driver download, but how can i extract them in ubuntu and do i really need to install all 8 .inf files. also do i actually need to make a .inf file? if so how?

So, after installing Lucid wireless doesn't work for me. When I click on the network icon on the status bar, it shows "wireless is disabled".
With that message, I press the wifi button on my HP laptop and it turns off my blue-tooth, without changing the status of my wifi.

I have tried out Lucid Lynx Beta 1 back in march. During the installation I was announced that support for bluetooth was dropped. I installed anyway, thinking it would be back in the Final Release. Meanwhile (between March and April) I reinstalled Karmic because I really needed the bluetooth. I can see in the upgrade that bluetooth still isn't available. What should I do about this? Is there a way to keep Lucid Lynx and bluetooth? Or will I have to stay on Karmic until the end of times?

I do not want to just change to Gnome and stop using Unity. This simply sweeps everything under the carpet. Alternatively, can I reinstall 10.04 on top of 11.04 but keep ALL my settings, files everything? How?

I'm using an Apple bluetooth keyboard, model A1016 the one with a white bottom inside clear plastic. The machine is a Mac Mini (2,1) and I also have an Apple bluetooth mouse. The mouse works fine on Ubuntu 10.04. The keyboard has issues.
When I add the keyboard using the bluetooth applet, I find that I can't assign a specified PIN. I have to use automatic PIN, and then type the random number presented. That works until I reboot the machine.
After reboot the bluetooth applet menu shows both the mouse (connected) and the keyboard (not connected). If I tell it to connect the keyboard, nothing happens. The only thing I can do is delete the keyboard, re-add it, with a new random PIN.
i madly want the titlebar icons and menu colors they look cleaner to me i moded lucid's theme to have the apps icon for the menu button on the left like the clear looks theme

View 2 Replies View Relatedafter having some boot issues not so long ago, i was pointed in the direction of rescatux, which solved my problem at the time. now im having a number of other issues. i am dual booting isodora mint and lucid ubuntu.when my lucid distro is working, it often becomes totally unresponsive during everyday tasks and when i go to restart (or any of the other options) from the shut down menu, i get the window appearing blank.upon rebooting (by pressing ENTER, which works even though there are no buttons within the window), it tells me to either insert boot media or there is a grub failure. this happens almost every session on the computer.
on the times when it says 'insert boot media', generally speaking turning it off for an extended period tends to work. the times when a grub failure occurs, going through rescatux's rescap leads to no other partitions being identified at least 90% of the time.is this something that anyone recognizes the signs for and can offer me a solution? or does this sound like an intermittent hardware problem?
I'm running Lucid (all updates) with an ATI Radeon 3100 video ini a Toshiba Laptop.
I was troubleshooting a problem with XBMC, and tried disableing the propriatary ATI driver. Now ubuntu will not boot. I've tried recovery mode, and it gets to:

And nothing else. I've tried CTRL-ALT-F1 and BACKSPACE, and nothing happens. I know that I just need to re-enable to ATI driver, or possible reconfigure X, but I can't figure out how at this point.
how you change the default version of python in Lucid. Lucid comes packaged with 2.6 but we use 2.5 where I work. I didn't see much of anything on the web for this topic so figured I'd post something. If you are installing python2.5 on Lucid version 10.04 (comes package with 2.6 only)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI created an installation CD and even a usb stick of Ubuntu Lucid Lynx and Natty Narwhal and I keep having freezes during installation.
1. Set my BIOS to boot on CD/ usb stick
2. My computer starts to boot from CD/ usb stick
3. Ubuntu logo plus 5 dots screen shown
4. After that I am shown a snowy green screen with white lines running lengthwise and it freezes.
I already tried creating a new CD and usb stick after re-downloading the .iso installation file and creating the process of creating an installer over and over but still the same problem. Is it a hardware problem or my installer is the problem. I tried installing my old CD of Ubuntu Jaunty that I requested from Ubuntu a long time ago and I can install it without any problems. I am using Jaunty right now...........

But thats not the problem. I go to the update manager and it show 201 updates available. I click install updates, It asks for authentication, i type in the password. then it kind of just freezes. Now im like okay maybe trying to install them all at once is to much for this computer to handle. So i tried to do one at a time, and same thing. So i tried to log onto Empathy to ask help from a friend, and it just starts to connect and doesn't stop.
