After a recent update, I suddenly find myself unable to print on my hp Deskjet 1600;
I have the necessary software; the HP management tool is on my panel and I use it.
When I attempt to print now, I get an error that says "hpcups is not installed".

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my computer. Everything works except for my HP Deskjet D2660 printer. The printer is recognized, but it will not print. HP-check shows no errors or warnings. The printer works fine on another computer with Ubuntu 9.10
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy HP Deskjet D-2660 will not print. I can print to file but not the printer. I am running Ubuntu 10.04 and have no other problems. I have installed hpip and hpijs form HP and cups was made available via and upgrade. I have a lot of data from var/log/cups/error_log but don't know what it is supposed to say.
I can print to file and everything else I check seems to say that all is right. Is there any glaring faults that I should look for?? As I stated on the other post I get a message that the print job has been sent to the printer and then another message stating that the print job has completed. In system/administration/printing, the printer shows up properly and has a green check mark on it. Connected to localhost shows at the bottom of the little window. Under /printer it shows shared and enabled Then under printer/properties, it shows as the HP Deskjet D2600 series the location is given as john-desktop It defines the Device URI: hp:/usb/Deskjet_D2600_series?serial=CN9ANDF0ZT05C9 shows the Make and Model HP Deskjet d2600 Series hpijs,.. printer state: idle
Across the bottom it theoretically allows you to print a test page or clean the print heads. (won't print) On the printing-local host small page that opens under system/administration/printing there is no group under that heading only new group or new group from selection. I never named a group since I am the only user.
I have shut the printer down and disconnected the USB and rebooted. Then connect the power and plug in the USB cable I get all the same answers nothing appears to change. Here is some of the var/log/cups/error_log file. It does this over and over every minute same thing. The print que is empty from both administration and applications.

I'm an happy user of 11.2 but I've a weird and very annoying problem with my old but still good for me hp 710c Printer.
I should say that I have this problem on with 11.2 because printer runs well either on windows or with other linux distro.
the problem is that when I try to print anything I get:
/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip failed
I've found an other thread (11.2 - Cups ends /usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip failed - openSUSE Forums) regarding the same problem but with 11.2 milestone 1 and the solutions seemed to be to downgrade to an older cups and ghostscript version.
[i use Ubuntu linux 10.04 LTS - the Lucid Lynx] i tried to print a document and i got the following message from the "document print status (my jobs)": "There was a problem processing document 'take it easy' (job 400)" i tried to print other things but i got the same error. after any print request i sent the printer asked me to release the paper it took, and when i release it, it printed this:"Unable to open the initial device, quitting." i have "HP Device Manager" installed on my computer, and lately i tried to install a wireless printer (officejet 4500 g510n-z) through it, and it failed because the connection between the printer and my computer disconnected before the terminal finished the installation. i didn't try to print with the deskjet right after it but now when i try- it doesn't work, so it might have something to do with my current problem... also when i looked at the HP Device Manager i saw the deskjet printer icon marked with X so i used this program's option "Setup Device" and the X mark disappeared.. and it still doesn't work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running the current Mythdora and using the latest drivers and firmware todate, or at least what is listed on the HVR1600 wiki page. I can't lock on to any channels no matter what with this installation. Shouldn't it work after confirmation of drivers loaded and firmware upadated? Below I have outputed basic information. I did try a previous version of mythdora and it was able to find and lock to channels provided by my cable service, but had a bad driver so I updated everything.
Another person posted that he swaped pci slots with this tuner card and it worked. [URL]I think I am missing something. I also would add I have two coaxial inputs. Analog and Digital. I am currently using the TV one. I also did a cat /dev/video0 > ./Desktop/test.mpg and it was static. Does anyone have some ideas? I am all ears!

My wife has a canon MP470 printer and running ubuntu 10.10. I am able to print black and white, but unable to print photos. I got it to work using another driver, but not the 'correct' one for this printer. I have searched a bit and don't see anything about ubuntu 10.10, just older versions. Or should I just network her to my printer....?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using Ubuntu 10.04 on a laptop in a wireless system at home. It's all working fine. I can browse the internet without any difficulties. The problem is that I cannot print to my HP Laserjet 1022nw. The IP for the printer is 192.168.2.2 and I can reach it (and print) from my windows machine. But, if I use the laptop it cannot reach the server at 192.168.2.2 and all print jobs freeze. It's odd because I used the Ubuntu network printer install AppSocket/HP JetDirect connection and it found the printer at socket://192.168.2.2:9100 and installed the correct Foomatic driver. But now the browser cannot get to 192.168.2.2 and it wont print. What am I missing?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've followed instructions here upto the point for the Startup Script for Analog Tuner the script provided does not run (v4l2-ctl seems to be depriciated?) In any case the scan for digital channels is not finding anything, I wasn't able to scan for analog channels. When I do something like cat dev/video0 | mplayer All I see is static. I've followed the instructions and I didn't get any obvious error messages. I'm completely lost. I know the tuner works, I've tested in in Windows 7. I've tried connecting the coaxial cable directly to the tuner's TV outlet, to the ATSC outlet, I've tried connecting the set-top box out coax to the TV, and ATSC outlets to no avail.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to set up my HVR-1600 card with MythTV but have run into a road block. As far as I can tell, the card is setup and the drivers are working properly ( cx18 ). The output of lspci shows:

CX23418 Single-Chip MPEG-2 Encoder with Integrated Analog Video/Broadcast Audio Decoder Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to change channels when my cable is connected using ivtv-tune no matter what channel or frequency table I try (I live in Canada), though the S-video and audio input seem to work fine (but not through MythTV, see below).
Likewise, when I tried to scan for channels in MythTV, nothing is found, though the same cable plugged into a TV gives just regular cable as it should. since I have digital cable and would like to use the S-video anyway (and the IR blaster when I get that far). But I can't seem to get MythTV to recongize the S-video input. These are my backend settings:
Capture Card Setup:
Card type: IVTV MPEG-2 encoder card
Video device: /dev/video0

I'm not sure if perhaps it's a permission error someone since it works as my own user? It seems very strange. So ultimately it seems I have two main issues:
1. Why can't I configure MythTV to use the S-video input?
2. Why does the MythTV user get errors when trying to use the /dev/video0 device with mplayer? (Remember, cat /dev/video0 > recording.mpg works fine as both MythTV user and my user account)
A few other details:
Ubuntu version: 10.04 64-bit
MythTV version: 0.23.0+fixes24158-0ubuntu2 (from the Ubuntu repository)
Nvidia 9400gt video card (with latest nvidia drivers, 195 I believe)
i'm running Ubuntu 9.10 amd64 and installing a Canon Pixima iP 1600. The drivers which tried to automatically install only have Pixima iP 2000.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just purchased a brand new Brother printer MFC-250C which includes a fax/copier/scanner but mostly its for printing photos however Ubunto 10.4 does not recognize this model! (it works perfectly over on my other partition with windows7 using the setup disk for Brother). I have installed everything related to Brother from Synaptic and searched the Brother web site for any drivers relating to this model and have even tried installing from Synaptic MFC-240C drivers in case they may work (no 250c available in synaptic) selecting PRINT for instance in Fspot my printer receives information for the photo but does not commence printing ..the same applies working in Gimp Gutenprint.

I can print just fine from my dual-booted Windows 7 installation. Thunderbird seems to always print OK, OpenOffice writer prints sometimes, other programs don't print at all or are inconsistent.

I grabbed a .bin firmware file from one of the Mythtv sites, but I havn't gotten it to work yet. I put it in the /lib/firmware/KERNEL directory, but maybe I need to move it up one directory.Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has it working and what was done? I have the other things in place regarding lirc, so I think the only thing holding it up is the device file.

I had to add the firmware to /lib/firmware , then install the xine and ffmpeg files . Now tv scans channels and plays . Actually it plays great . I had skipping problems in Ubuntu with Me-tv , not so with Kaffeine .

When I go to System Admin/Printing to add my printers, screen says I am not connected to localhost and I am unable to use Add printer. When I used version 9.10, I added a network + a local printer by this method but I'm not sure what I have done wrong this time around.
I live in Japan and am trying to print to a network printer (Richo Ipsio C411 PS). Couldn't find the ppd in the foomatic database. At my previous school, I had no problems printing to the printers on the network once I found the ppd. A few months ago, I transfered to a new site. Unfortunately, when I send a print job on the network here, the printer just gives a Japanese message that says "command error." I've tried other printers on the network (all different models of the Ipsio).
I went to the Japanese Ricoh website and it recommended a generic printer ppd. I downloaded that, but it didn't work. Then I got the ppd off of the windows driver CD and tried that. Again, no success. I have no idea what I'm doing (obvious, but should be noted) or how to get this started. I also tried 2 versions of Ubuntu -- I'm running 8.04 and 10.04.
Attached are copies of the ppd files if it helps.
I am unable to print from Wine applications (including Notepad) because Wine thinks I have no printers installed. This is very old, and probably very out of date. I also had trouble following the examples. In any case I don't have anything called winerc or wine.conf. I just have a .wine directory.
Supposedly I should have registry keys for printers in Wine, so I looked where those are supposed to be. I have two keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetContro lPrintPrinters: (Default) and DefaultSpoolDirectory. Perhaps if I added the right key here I could get Wine to notice CUPS? I wouldn't begin to know what to put though.

It also says that if it doesn't work with CUPS it falls back to look in /etc/printcap. I have one of those, but it doesn't contain anything except the default comment telling me not to edit the file. Maybe if there's a way to regenerate /etc/printcap to contain the printers that show up in KDE, Wine would notice. Again, I have no clue how to do that.
I'm running Kubuntu 10.10 x64, and I'm using Wine 1.2, not Wine 1.0. All my packages are completely up to date.
I am unable to print on my Brother mcf 440cn printer. Every thing was working ok, today I finished some work in Open Office and could not print the saved file. I get an error unable to print msg. my printer is no longer recognized on the system. I reinstalled the driver no luck. I tested the printer with Windooze and every thing works fine

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter a massive headache, it seems that driver developers have given up on drivers for the Hauppauge HVT-1600 [URL].. In their current state, the drivers can't get proper sound out of the card, and they can't figure it out.
First, does anyone know is this true? Second, can someone recommend what the best supported tuner card for linux is? My main goal is to record video coming over cable in the US. I thought the 1600 was it, but I guess I was wrong. PS, feel free to point me a ta page that has this info. I can't find one that shows card comparisons (or recommendations).
Whenever I restart my system, the screen resolution has been reset to 1600 x 1200. I change it in "configure desktop" and it's ok for the session but it changes back on reboot. Also, the font sizes are too small for xterms. Sure, I can ctrl+ to increase but why should I have to do this each time I login? I noticed others seem to be having this problem. Is there an upgrade that will fix this? I'm using 11.2 and kde.

Only the Postscript option is available, PDF is not available.

I am a newbie at this kind of installation. I would like to know is there a kernel that I can install that the tv tuner will work right out of the box. This is very frustrating. I try to install the CX18 driver, I receive an error message. I would really like this to work.
