Ubuntu :: How To Slow Down Mouse
Apr 30, 2010
Even with all the mouse sensitivity and acceleration settings at the lowest my mouse is still very fast.
I tried googling this but I didn't really understand the guides much and the ones I did understand were from years ago.

I just bought the Humble Indie Bundle and the moment Aquaria and Gish are open the mouse becomes really slow.
Running Fullscreen, 1440x900, Lucid Lynx (10.04) on a Dell Dimension C521. (Window or Lower resolutions didn't change anything.)
The mouse settings seem to be like this when I'm playing:

I installed unity on ubuntu 10.10. when it first starts there is no problem ... but when I hover over any window the mouse gets stuck or at least REALLY slow that I cant control it. (I noticed also the keyboard does the same) some sites I searched suggested to remove unity application package and some other pack .. but it did not help. I use ATI (propriety drivers) on a Toshiba Laptop intel core i3, 3GB ram note that I downloaded gnome3-shell to try it but the exact same thing happened as unity.

Since I upgraded to Maverick, every now and then (maybe once an hour) my system becomes very slow for about half a minute. The mouse cursor reacts only very slowly and also applications freeze for for some time.
This happens without the CPU being on full load or the hard disk being active.
I made a clean ubuntu installation on a new hard drive a week ago, but the problem persists.
I have a Thinkpad R400 with an Intel GMA 4500 graphics card an an Intel T5670 Core 2 Duo processor. I'm running the most up to date stable version of ubuntu. Kernel 2.6.35-22.
I know the description of the problem is very vague, but it's hard to describe it more accurately. I couldn't find anything helpful on google or the forum. If you have any ideas what might cause the problem or which log files might provide useful information, please let me know. Most importantly, the problem did not occur before I upgraded to Maverick.

I have Ubuntu Lucid Lynx since it came out, and until now it worked fine. I am updating regularly. Today too, I installed everything offered to me by updates manager (I looked through the list and didnt see anything I wouldnt want to update, but I dont remember everything that was there), and it asked for restart. Ok, so I restarted. Everything seemed fine. Then I tried to look at a picture, in normal, default viewer, an huh. It took 3 seconds for the mouse to select the pic, then another about 6 to open the viewer (and we are talking about a 40 KB pic). That was slow, but I thought maybe it was an accident. But no, everything I tried since goes slowly, at about a quarter of speed as before the update. I tried to remove unnecessary things with apt-get autoremove, I tried to stop or end all processes that seemed unnecessary, with no result. I restarted thrice. Nothing comes to mind anymore.

Is anyone else having issues with their mouse/keyboard responsiveness via Synergy after upgrading to 11.04?
If I plug mouse and keyboard directly into the desktop the issue goes away. But when I connect via QuickSynergy and share my mouse/keyboard the mouse is very slow and has low sensitivity.

I'm using synergy+ with Windows XP as a server and a CentOS client. The mouse speed on the client (Linux) seems really slow. Is there a way to have the mouse speed from the server persist to the clients?

I need to know the necessity of swap partition in Ubuntu.. I have recently bought a new HD and installed Ubuntu(with NO swap, only Ubuntu on a single partition) on it and am facing frequent, random hanging issues with it.. Earlier,my old HD used an swap partition along with main partition and i never faced hanging issues at that time..
Actually, when in hanging mode, the cpu light keeps blinking continuously and the mouse movement is very slow, the screen also becomes dim. After sometime,it comes out of hanging mode and mouse movement becomes normal.Sometimes, even after waiting for 15-20 minutes,it does not come out of hanging mode and the system has to be restarted.(this is what forced me to look for a possible solution to this)

I'm an Ubuntu user since Jaunty, and I've always upgraded my system (NOT fresh install). Everything went fine, but yesterday I upgraded to Lucid. My only concern -for now- deals with startup time. I'm a desktop user (Core2@3GHz) so I think I should boot in less than 10 seconds. Anyway, boot time is 30 seconds - not too much, but there is definetly something wrong with tools I don't know (ureadahead, plymouth, etc.). Attached is my bootchart: can anyone explain me what's wrong?
Also, I don't even see a plymouth Ubuntu themed bootsplash: I only see a blank (black) screen standing for seconds, then I see the bootsplash for less then half a second, then GDM appears :S Not crucial -I know- but how can I fix it? (I don't know if it's related, but I can see the animation at shutdown)Finally, GNOME desktop takes too long to load. I don't know why, but there are 15/30 seconds in between login sound and a usable desktop (with panels and icons, I mean). Please help me, I don't want to do a fresh install. Boot speed is not a dial with desktops - I know - but it can be a symptom that my system is a bit a messy (and I don't like it, since I installed Jaunty less then 1 year ago). (!Forgot! I also installed grub2 by hand

I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my HP Pavilion a320n computer with a ps2 mouse and the mouse pointer points with the bottom of the mouse and not the upper tip of the point. It does the same thing with Ubuntu 10.04.1. In Windows 7 and XP the mouse is normal. I don't know how I could adjust it or is this just a bug in the OS?

Whenever I transfer a movie into my 16GB USB flash disk, my whole system becomes windows-like and unusable!
When i drag the file(s) into the USB disk folder, it starts out fine and pretty darn fast (25mb/sec) then slowly decreases until it's unbearably slow (3m/sec) and as a side effect my whole system starts deteriorating. I basically have to wait for the file to finish transferring before i can use my desktop again!
This has been happening with every version since Karmic (all 64bit)- I put up with it because I don't use the USB stick that much.. but lately it's been my go to source for transfering large files to/from work.

I have custom built Linux kernel (2.6.31) and also xorg. xorg is using xserver 1.7.3 . I have an application which simulates the mouse and sends mouse move events. When I switch the device on, the system boots and Xorg comes up, I can see X cursor on the system. When I start sending mouse move events from the application, the cursor do not move. If I attach mouse to the device and then move the mouse, from this point onwards the mouse events get detected from the simulation application. I have checked the dmesg log as follows
BEFORE MOUSE CONNECTED.
.....
kjournald starting. Commit interval 5 seconds
EXT3 FS on hdb4, internal journal
EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with writeback data mode.

I just upgraded to FC14 (64) from FC13 (32) and the mouse middle button (simultaneous left+right button) paste function has stopped working. I tested it with 3 makes/models of different mice and trackballs. For some reason (left+right) mouse returns the same code as the single right-button ('xev' value = 3). This worked in all previous FC and RH distros I've used in the past. Did a default setting get zonked somewhere? System: Toshiba laptop w/ USB mouse.

I'm running FC12 and GNOME.If I move the physical mouse about one inch, the mouse pointer moves across the entire screen. That's way too fast and way to sensitive.I prefer the mouse pointer to move far less distance on the screen when the physical mouse is moved.
From System->Preferences->Mouse, I set the various mouse Pointer Speed acceleration and Sensitivity to Slow, Fast, Low, High, and and I couldn't get it any better. At the least sensitive settings. if I move the physical mouse one inch, the mouse pointer moves across the entire screen. How can make the mouse pointer less sensitive to mouse movements?

Iv'e got an issue with mouse speed, on boot the mouse is to fast, so I found that the command
Quote:
slows it down the way I need. But now, each boot I need to run it again. Is there a place where I can put it so it runs every time X starts? Also, googling a bit I found that udev rules can be used instead, but I don't know how to write it as a rule.

I had been running "Etch" and upgraded to "Lenny". Now my mouse is NOT tracking correctly. When I move the mouse and then press and release the 'ctrl' key to show where the mouse pointer is the circle indicators are not where the pointer is. I therefore cannot make any selections from menus as 'lenny' thinks the mouse is somewhere other than where the pointer is. Also are there keyboard hot keys that i can use to access the menus?

just want to report "Right Mouse Click Freeze" on Ubuntu 10.10. When I click on anything with my right mouse button to open options menu it freezes and does not open menu. Sometimes when I shake my mouse left/right a bit it opens that menu, but this does not work always. It seems like xserver issue, but I'm not sure since I'm not expert in linux yet. It's very annoying issue that I would like to resolve asap.
My System Specs:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
Western Digital 250 GB Hard Drive
Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit (Kernel Linux 2.6.35-22)

When my computer have runned for some time (10-20 minutes maybe, not sure) it gets very sluggish and slow. It's like everything gets much slower to render. The fading effect when clicking Quit is like 2-3x slower. If I restart, everything gets as fast as it should but gets slow after a while like I told. It is not that it gets slower and slower. It is either normal or slow. The problem started a few days ago and I don't think I have done anything special except automatic updates. I am using Ubuntu 8.04 (64bit).I noticed now that all programs that uses OpenGL crashes. glxgears just shows an empty window for some seconds and then close with the text "Aborted". I don't really know what's causing the problem but I guess it has something to do with graphics stuff.

I have the feeling this is something simple that I just don't know how to do. Any help is appreciated...
I have a machine with two mice attached, one via USB and one via PS/2. I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 (yes, I know it's old). Inside gdm, everything works fine, but the purpose of the machine (advmame) is to run it outside of X.
Once I shut down gdm, neither mouse is available. There is a "mouse testing" program that's bundled with advmame (advm), which gives me a "no mouse found" error. How do I get the mice to be available in just a console?

It starts in 20 seconde on the old PC and around 1 minute on my laptop, honestly it bugs me, any ideas why it is so slow on my laptop? I do have a 2 seconds for grubs, but still...
