Ubuntu :: How To Run IE6 On Unity
Jul 20, 2011I need to be able to test the sites I develop in IE6 and IE7. What is the best way to install these on Ubuntu? I've tried ies4linux and that didn't work.

View 5 Replies1. I didn't like the icon theme and changed it to Ubuntu Mono Light. But is there a way to get the Min/Max/Close buttons to how they are in Radiance when maximized, or is that dependant on something else?
2. Is there a way to disable the Unity dock, but not the Unity feature where the Min/Max/Close go into the command bar?
Just moved to Ubuntu 11.04 with unity and only have one problem...For most of my desktop needs I prefer to have the Unity Launcher up all the time (fullscreen apps don't cover it), and have set this option with ccsm.
However, when I watch mythtv, it is also under the launcher (and the top panel as well). How can I force mythtv to cover the launcher?
What I really need is a keyboard shortcut to hide the launcher, but the only shortcut is for "show launcher". (I guess the devs assumed everyone would want it hidden by default).
This, by the way is not my usual way for viewing mythtv. I have a projector attached to the desktop PC and it doesn't get a Unity Launcher by default (in Twinview), so no probs. However, occasionally I want to watch something on my computer screen, and that is when this issue arises.
I'm helping a friend with his netbook, and he is used to the regular netbook edition before the unity-style. The small netbookscreen is just not good for this new appbar on the left side (it's one of the old eee-pc's).
None of us like that solution, and I wonder if its possible to move the bar on the bottom side of the screen so it will be a bit more Windows 7-ish? I've searched and looked everywhere so I just have to ask.
Anyone tried to install Unity on Laptop i.e. normal desktop Ubuntu version.. Not the Netbook remix...
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed the netbook remix 10.10 on my laptop. I have been using Unity and I would much rather prefer a standard GNOME desktop. I know there was a way to change the netbook interface to a standard GNOME one on the 8.04 remix. Anyone know if there's a way to do it in 10.10?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed the Unity Desktop Env. to play around with it on my wubi installation of Ubuntu 10.10. I have the log in screen disabled as well as the grub menu so it launches right into Ubuntu. I logged out and logged back in under Unity and could move the mouse but nothing would happen. I have gnome-panels disabled as well so alt f2 wont work even in my gnome DE. By disabling the log in screen and the grub menu have I painted myself into a corner so to speak and made this installation completely unrecoverable?

Alright so i have been waiting for the release of 11.04 for quite some time now. And when i finally get it, and i boot from my liveCD, there is no Unity desktop interface. It's weird, because i can boot in other computers, and it'll work. This tells me there is something specific about my computer as to why it won't work. I can't seem to figure it out. I've heard people say to switch to classic mode, and that'll fix it. But i don't even know how to switch to classic mode.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently update my ubuntu to 11.04 and try some compiz tricks but while i am testing i close unity somehow and now on i cannot start it again. Although i checked it in compiz manager it does not work, also some other new features do not work too like grid feature. I also try to start it by terminal but it says "it is already working". Is there any solution to start unity and its features again?
edition: I also realized that no other compiz settings effects my ubuntu. I change its settings but no effect!
I feel these pictures illustrate an issue that should to be addressed: What appears to be happening is that when I try to switch desktops it will select the window I have open and try to move it at the same time. As you can see from the images, as soon as I select a viewpoint, compiz's wobbly windows stay in their warped positions while the application is still completely operational. It's quite funny actually, but is also a problem. I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 with Unity and Compiz's wobbly windows enabled. I should note that my Unity Panel on the left side of the screen often freezes and will not auto-hide as I have set it to do, which is an unrelated issue, I believe.
I guess I'm wondering if this is some sort of bug that should be posted and where to post it, whether this is a Unity or Compiz issue.
It told me I don't have the required hardware. What do I need?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed 11.04 64-bit as a partition on my Macbook Pro. This macbook is only a year old, so I think the hardware is okay for Unity. For some reason though, I have Gnome 2.32.1 as my desktop. Upon login, Unity is not one of the options at the bottom of the screen.
I don't see Unity as an option in System Settings/Login Screen either. So I'm wondering -- is Unity not made for running on a macbook? I did a google search and didn't find much information. If it is possible to run on a macbook, how do I enable it as an option?
I have 64-bit Ubuntu 11.04 installed, but I am not sure if this has any bearing on my problem.
Also, I went to synaptic to look for unity, and apparently it is already installed. So my question is -- how do I make Unity work in my Ubuntu installation?

I recently installed KDE via the terminal using sudo apt-get install kde-standard and I'm now having difficulty logging in and when I do finally log in all I get is a blank screen, I have tried booting ubuntu in safe mode and uninstalling KDE from the terminal but I am still prompted with the KDE log in screen after rebooting, I was just wondering how to get back to unity.

View 9 Replies View RelatedUpon boot, my resolution is smaller and running Classic. After I log out and login again, Unity is fixed, as is my resolution.Unity is already set up as the default session in dnmr and is being forced too. However the resolution change is making me think the proprietary NVIDIA driver isn't activated upon boot. Any other tricks I can try? GDM has given me many troubles in the past too.
