Ubuntu :: No Unity Upon 11.04 Install
May 4, 2011It told me I don't have the required hardware. What do I need?

View 2 Replies1. I didn't like the icon theme and changed it to Ubuntu Mono Light. But is there a way to get the Min/Max/Close buttons to how they are in Radiance when maximized, or is that dependant on something else?
2. Is there a way to disable the Unity dock, but not the Unity feature where the Min/Max/Close go into the command bar?
Just moved to Ubuntu 11.04 with unity and only have one problem...For most of my desktop needs I prefer to have the Unity Launcher up all the time (fullscreen apps don't cover it), and have set this option with ccsm.
However, when I watch mythtv, it is also under the launcher (and the top panel as well). How can I force mythtv to cover the launcher?
What I really need is a keyboard shortcut to hide the launcher, but the only shortcut is for "show launcher". (I guess the devs assumed everyone would want it hidden by default).
This, by the way is not my usual way for viewing mythtv. I have a projector attached to the desktop PC and it doesn't get a Unity Launcher by default (in Twinview), so no probs. However, occasionally I want to watch something on my computer screen, and that is when this issue arises.
I can't get unity to install:
Xubuntu/Peppermint
this is what I get. unity-2d-default-settings:
Depends: indicator-appmenu but it is not installable
Depends: indicator-datetime but it is not installable
Depends: indicator-me but it is not going to be installed
[code]......
I'm running 10.10 on my desktop at the moment and don't want to upgrade to 11.04. I'm running natty on my netbook and actually enjoy unity a lot more than I thought I would. I want to try it out on my desktop (other than from a live cd as I want to see how it integrates with my current configuration) but when I go to install it from the repositories I notice that it's still the build that was with 10.10 is there a way to update it from the repositories? Or do I have to install it first and then update it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just installed Natty Narwhal onto my laptop, but I cannot find Unity 3D, only 2D. I've installed the propriety NVIDIA drivers, but there still is no 3D option.I've also seen no one who likes Unity, but I do.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I glossed over the fact that installing Gnome3 from the PPA would break Unity for some reason, and now it's broken, and I can't even check it out. Is there a way to recover it and/or remove Gnome3, or is it a case of being out of luck unless I do a full reinstall?
View 4 Replies View RelatedInstalling gnome3 on 11.04 kills unity and even gnome2. I heard installing gnome3 from source solves the problem, any one tried that? I want gnome3 to be alone, if I change its wallpaper I don't want gnome2 or unity wallpaper to be changed.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is probably very simple but can someone tell me how I stop Unity in order to install graphics drivers?
View 2 Replies View RelatedHaving read quite a few of the contributions about Unity, I am still looking for a solution to the following problem, which, I am sure; others have encountered also:
1. Clean install, no access to Unity
2. Additional drivers install - done
3. Driver installed but not active - no matter whether it's current or 173)
4. Unity works for a while, after updating the system, unity doesn't work anymore.
5. Back to Gnome 2, downloading the org Nvidia driver, trying to install it on the command line (init 1) - black and white vertical stripes!
I have downloaded Kernel 2.6.39 from whateversource, but have not installed it yet. Is it the kernel, is it whatever in Natty that courses these problems, or is it my Nvidia card?
My hardware: AMD 2.9 Mhz dual core, Nvidia 7200 GS (258 Mhz), 4 GB Ram
I really want to use Unity, but if nothings happens soon, I will have to give up. Fedora 15 enables Gnome 3 (shell) on nouveau; to install the propriety Nvidia divers, however, is also impossible...
I am logged in, connected to the internet. Not sure how to install the Unity gui interface on this install.I can also live with ubuntu-desktop and have tried the following: Code: sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop.I am actually getting this above error on just about everything that I tried to install, so I guess the issue is more global than just the ubuntu-desktop package.
View 5 Replies View Relatedis it would be possible create a Ubuntu dvd that contains the ubuntu server desktop and alternate install opptions, as well as all four main desktop environments (gnome, kde, xfce, lxde) and unity. since much of the data is redundant between each version cd's it would probably all fit on one disk. then all that would be needed is two disks one for 32 bit and another for 64 bit. i really think that this could work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to be able to test the sites I develop in IE6 and IE7. What is the best way to install these on Ubuntu? I've tried ies4linux and that didn't work.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm helping a friend with his netbook, and he is used to the regular netbook edition before the unity-style. The small netbookscreen is just not good for this new appbar on the left side (it's one of the old eee-pc's).
None of us like that solution, and I wonder if its possible to move the bar on the bottom side of the screen so it will be a bit more Windows 7-ish? I've searched and looked everywhere so I just have to ask.
Anyone tried to install Unity on Laptop i.e. normal desktop Ubuntu version.. Not the Netbook remix...
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed the netbook remix 10.10 on my laptop. I have been using Unity and I would much rather prefer a standard GNOME desktop. I know there was a way to change the netbook interface to a standard GNOME one on the 8.04 remix. Anyone know if there's a way to do it in 10.10?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed the Unity Desktop Env. to play around with it on my wubi installation of Ubuntu 10.10. I have the log in screen disabled as well as the grub menu so it launches right into Ubuntu. I logged out and logged back in under Unity and could move the mouse but nothing would happen. I have gnome-panels disabled as well so alt f2 wont work even in my gnome DE. By disabling the log in screen and the grub menu have I painted myself into a corner so to speak and made this installation completely unrecoverable?
