Fedora :: Disable Mouse Center Button Paste Function?
Jun 2, 2010I found the paste function of the center button is really annoying. Usually I use the center button to scroll up and down inside an editor, but when I scroll really fast occasionally I would press down the center button. The editor ended up paste whatever on the clipboard. Is there a way to disable it? I want the center button to function only like a scroll bar, no paste.

Jan 4, 2011I just upgraded to FC14 (64) from FC13 (32) and the mouse middle button (simultaneous left+right button) paste function has stopped working. I tested it with 3 makes/models of different mice and trackballs. For some reason (left+right) mouse returns the same code as the single right-button ('xev' value = 3). This worked in all previous FC and RH distros I've used in the past. Did a default setting get zonked somewhere? System: Toshiba laptop w/ USB mouse.

Ubuntu :: 11.04 Can't Click Both Mouse Buttons To Paste?
May 22, 2011As far back as I can remember, on any Linux system, not just Ubuntu, you could use the mouse to highlight a chunk of text, and then by clicking both mouse buttons at the same time, you could paste that high-lighted text wherever you want. I had used this all the time on my previous Ubuntu installations... until now. In Ubuntu 11.04 I don't have this luxury anymore.

Jan 4, 2010I started having some serious issues with my mouse after running updates yesterday. I am basically unable to copy and paste any text and this is making editing essays a major major major PITA! Basically when I click and drag my mouse to copy, the highlight looks good until I unclick then nothing is highlighted. Even trying to double click on words to highlight single words results in the entire paragraph being hightlighted. For my two laptops running 9.10 I have to disable the touchpad, I prefer a usb mouse, after logging in, but if leave the touchpad enabled the problem still exists.
This problem only showed up yesterday, after the update as best I can tell, and disabling my touchpad for like the past 4 or 5 releases, including 9.10. I run xubu/xfce4, but I have booted into Gnome and its the exact same problem. I have the problem on two laptops, both running 9.10, and both were updated yesterday.This is not one of those childish "that's it I am going back to winblowz, Linux suxorz!" , but I will have to temporarily go back and use MS Office until I can find out what is wrong here, b/c I gotta get essays written and without being able to copy text it is very rudimentary.
Software :: Vim - How To Configure Mouse (Copy And Paste)
Sep 29, 2010I would like to have the following actions enabled in vim:
1. To go to some place, I click the left mouse key
2. To copy text TO the vim editor, I mark the text first in some other window (browser, emacs, xterm) and then I middle-click (or shift-middle click).
3. To copy text FROM the vim editor, I select the text (left-click, hold down, select text, release left button) and then paste the text to somewhere else via the middle button
4. The same as (3) but TO the vim editor itself.
I have the following content of my .vimrc:
:set number
:set mouse=r
:set selectmode+=mouse
:behave xterm
With that configuration, the points 2-4 are working. When I change mouse=r to mouse=a, then 1 AND 3 is working, where I have to press the shift key in addition to press the middle mouse button. How to enable all pieces 1-4, and at best without having the shift-key pressed down to be able to paste text? How should my .vimrc look like? EMacs is not a solution since I am working remotely over a large distance and the network is not suitable to have an EMacs session opened at the remote pc.

Mar 4, 2010Suddenly the mouse middle button paste feature does not work in Bluefish and OpenOffice. It is driving me crazy. I have become so used to this feature I am constantly forgetting to ctl c/v to cut and paste.
It works everywhere else. ( For example, I can use it in this text box that I am typing this message in. ) and when I select text in either Bluefish or OpenOffice it shows up in Klipper. Strangely, if I select that text in Klipper I can paste it into either application with the middle button.
This just started a few days ago. I have no idea what changed on my system. It is a KDE4 desktop, if that is relevant.

I want to make a write/copy protected session in the rdesktop. I have disabled the keybord shortcuts like Ctrl+X ,Ctrl+V, Ctrl+C by disabling their Keysyms in the rdesktop code. Now I need to disable the options in the edit menu.

In the new installation i have a problem with the mouse that did not exist before: some of the radio buttons and some links in web pages are not responsive. further more, while writing this post, the mouse does not change its icon to text icon when i hoover over the post's text. it happens also in web pages when it does not change to hyper-link icon over some links. it seems that there is a certain area in the canter of the screen where it happens.

Jul 16, 2010I have a machine running XFCE in a "kiosk" environment. The machine normally runs without a keyboard or mouse, and I remote control it via VNC and SSH.
When the machine starts up, the mouse cursor sits in the center of the screen. I don't want to plug in a mouse or use VNC to move the mouse to the bottom-right corner so that it is not visible, so is there a way to hide the mouse cursor or tell it to move to the lower right when X starts? It would be even cooler if the mouse could be disabled or hidden when no mouse is connected, but re-enabled when someone plugs in a mouse, but that's probably asking too much.
Ubuntu Installation :: Lucid All Works Great - Except Software Center/synaptic
Apr 30, 2010Using Lucid Lynx 10.04. Is your software center/ synaptic package manager working properly for you?
I just got Lucid installed after some minor troubles last night, but with the help of great people, I have it installed now (thank you!) and it all *ok, most* works beautifully!
However, I have been downloading/installing "Ubuntu restricted extras" , for the last 20 minutes now, and it is only at 12% .
In karmic koala, these things happened pretty quickly, but now it is just soooper slooooowww.
Before I started the restricted extras.. I installed VLC player, and that took about 15 minutes just for that. and now it is nowhere to be found!
It does not show in USC under installed software, nor does it show in synaptic..and it is in no menu, anywhere.
Speaking of synaptic...I cant get VLC, or Ubuntu restricted extras to show up, it does not 'find' them when I type their name into the search bar..it acts as if they don't exist.
I havent attempted to find, or install anything else that I had on my karmic box yet...only these 2 things, vlc and restricted extras....and both have been ..well.....painfully slow..... and vlc doesnt even seem to have installed, after it took 15-20 minutes, and said it was finished.
If this was "back to normal"...this would definitely be the best OS i have ever seen/used.
OpenSUSE :: LXDE Control Center - Adjusting Mouse And Keyboard Parameters?
Sep 26, 2010When I try to adjust the mouse and keyboard parameters, changes aren't applied. I adjust them to were I want to, click on accept, but then when I look on the settings again, they are set to default again. This must be some kind of bug. I already updated using the LXDE repository.

Jun 5, 2010An application I use requires that I use left and right mouse clicks in conjunction. But with Ubuntu 10.04 (Gnome Desktop) it activates the middle mouse button stopping the application from recognizing my left and right mouse buttons are both clicked.
I have read articles stating I can disable the middle mouse button, but I also use the middle mouse button for other applications.
How do I disable this "feature"? Is there a GUI I can use to modify how my mouse buttons work within Ubuntu?

Nov 12, 2010I've been playing WoW on my Ubuntu installation, but I'm having a bit of a trouble using certain keybinds. When holding down alt and pressing one of the mouse buttons, a shortcut button of some form is enabled and negates the keybind; ie: Alt + Right mouse button shows a grabbing hand, Alt + Middle Mouse button shows a diagonal arrow in a corner, and Alt + Left mouse button shows the context menu.
Surely this is something simple I've missed, but I didn't see anywhere to disable these in either keyboard shortcuts or keyboard / mouse options.

May 8, 2010It used to be that this was a service that could just be disabled in System>Preferences>Startup Services, but this is no longer the case it seems. I've tried tinkering with the runlevels in gdm.conf, but haven't had any success with it so far. I've tried commenting out the startup code in the gdm.conf as well. Also no luck.
Most of what I've found are older guides for Karmic and earlier, so if anyone has a more up-to-date solution for how to disable the gdm so I can auto-login to a terminal in Lucid
