how to activate Redshift, the night-mode viewing app? I installed it with Synaptic a week ago on Ubuntu 10.10 (two packages, one is the GTK), and it remained installed through the upgrade to 11.04, but it wouldn't activate with 10.10 and now with 11.04.
Redshift will not start in Natty. The errors seems to be that I'm unable to input the GPS coordinates. I think it's because now that its Unity is the default, not Gnome, the default clock and date settings has no provisions to input the GPS settings..
I'm on debian jessie 8.1, just installed gtk-redshift and it won't start from applications menu (nothing happens when I click it). I'm using xfce, could it be the problem?

I recently installed Linux for the first time because my Dell Inspiron 1525 got a virus and would not boot windows anymore. Everything works great. The only thing is that no my internal wireless card won't work and when I try to activate the drivers they just freeze. I have Linux Mint 8 Helena. I go to Menu-->Administration--> Hardware Drivers and attempt to activate the Broadcom STA and the screen just freezes. I have tried this several times with no luck. The wireless card I'm using is Broadcom BCM94312MCG. Here are some screenshots:

The last screenshot is what it freezes on after I hit activate on either driver. It won't even close when I hit cancel. I always have to log off just to get rid of it.
My son's 10.04 setup uses NVidia's ION graphics. He was having trouble, so I tried reinstalling the drivers, but can not get them back at all. I don't know where I went wrong. I was using the following guide.
Unfortunately, whenever I try load the module nvidia, I get the following:
If I go into Jockey, I see the driver I installed 'nvidia_173', but a message at the bottom stating "This driver is activated but not currently in use."
If I try running nvidia-settings, I get the following:
You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server.
Trying to run nvidia-xconfig:
Trying to install nvidia-xconfig:
I don't know what else to try! I also don't have xorg.conf file:
Right now I do have graphics, but they are blurry and the resolution is off. I really, really don't want to reinstall.

I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my desktop after Windows 7 screwed up. I am running an AMD 64X2 2.6GHz CPU. An nVidia 8800GT GPU card. And for some reason I can't activate intermediate or advanced graphics. I am sure it is a driver problem, but I am unsure how to fix it.
So I checked the /etc/bash.bashrc file and it doesn't have the if [ -f ~/.bash_aliases ]; then . ~/.bash_aliases fi

I installed OpenVPN and gadmin-openvpn-server from the repos and I can't seem to activate the openvpn server in the gui. I have the server certificate generated, and all the information on encryption protocols setup, and accounts named and ready, despite accounts that were already there, such as www-data, bind, ossec, etc being listed. The server log states:
PLUGIN_INIT: could not load plugin shared object /usr/lib/openvpn-pam-auth.so: /usr/lib/openvpn/openvpn-pam-auth.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
I have 2 PC : Big and Small. On both, there is Ubuntu Lucid. On Big, there is a WLAN PCI card from D-Link, and on Small an USB-Stick USB from TP-Link.
* On Big, the WLAN connection is performed during the boot, and is active even without opening a session (i.e. if one still on the login screnn of GDM)
* On Small, the WLAN connection is activated only AFTER opening a session.
How can i do on Small to have the same behaviour as on Big ?
