Ubuntu :: Gramps Gallery - Unable To Add New Images

May 5, 2010

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question but I can't find anywhere to contact the Gramps developers outside of bug reporting.

I found that the path to my images was not recognised by Gramps when I restored the backup after reinstallation. I had not changed the actual path where my images are stored.

I was able to fix the above problem by running Media Manager to change the path name as recorded by Gramps. However, when I try to add new images to Gallery, I get this error message: "Cannot import /home/alan/Pictures/<filename> The filename supplied could not be found."

This is even though the file was selected in the normal way when adding a new image to the Gallery. It happens every time so I now am unable to add new photos.

Does anyone know what a "relative path" is? It's possible I have got this part mixed up. I presume an absolute path is /home/alan/Pictures/ . Why am I now unable to add new images to the Gallery?

Ubuntu Installation :: Can't Run Printer Or Load Gramps Files

Sep 1, 2011

Installed Natty on a Windows machine via a dual boot. Two issues arising:
1 Brother HL-2040 printer just spits out all the paper without printing anything. I checked the printer application. It correctly identified the printer as HL-2040 but loaded the "recommended" HL-2060 driver. I noticed from my searches that others have had this problem but I don't understand whether (or how) they fixed it.

2 Loaded Gramps onto the "new" install (via Synaptic). Exported my Gramps file from another machine onto an external drive and tried to import the file to the new install. Tried opening Gramps to see if it would attempt to import the file, but there didn't seem to be a selection to recover the backup nor did it seem to be visible to the program. Also tried selecting the backup file and "Open with Gramps" - didn't work either. Also unloaded and reloaded Gramps via Synaptic but no change.

Ubuntu Servers :: Setting Up Own Webserver For Genealogy Using GRAMPS / PHPGedView

Jul 18, 2010

Set up my own web server hosted at home that I can use a genealogy program such as GRAMPS or PHPGedView with so that family members and I can store, view and upload information online viewable only to other family members.I have a old Dell server from work to use as a server (I know specs are helpful but don't have them at the moment.)I know that there are web hosting sites that this can be accomplished with easier and cheap but I mostly want to use this as an opportunity to learn.I am extremely new to Linux but the love the power it offers as well as it's philosophy. So far I've installed Ubuntu 10.04 Server on the machine.

I installed Apache, MySql, PHP and various other things with it.I got all the way through but have some errors with ISPconfig set up and some when I reboot. My main question at this point is, is this the best approach for what I want to do? And then once it's set up where do I go to learn how to use my system.

Ubuntu :: Unable To Access Images From Either OS

Mar 5, 2011

I was wondering if it is possible to fileshare between two operating systems that are on the same computer? I have Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows XP partitioned on my computer, and it would be helpful for me to be able to access images from either OS; so i could edit them from XP on photoshop, and then continue to use them on Ubuntu.

Ubuntu :: Firefox Crashes At GNU Art Gallery Access

Jan 9, 2011

I think this case is pretty funny, as I have been using xubuntu for a couple of months - without a single crash or freeze. The first time it freezes is when I am looking through the GNU.org art gallery - [URL] - see link to the exact page in the next post. Not only firefox froze. The whole xfce environment + mouse + keyboard froze; with no other way out than making a hard reboot and starting firefox in safe-mode and tjecking off the tab with the gnu gallery art. The graphics on the screen was messed up when it crashed the second time. I'm wondering how firefox would be able to make the whole desktop environment and keyboard input freeze.. I have run the page, 'GNU o Lantern' again, which causes the freeze. The reason why I have posted this under Desktop Environments is that Firefox causes my Desktop Environment to freeze.

Ubuntu Servers :: Create A Photo Gallery ?

Jun 26, 2011

Some time ago I created a web-site for a local charity, it's a museum. I wrote it all in HTML as that's all I knew. Now I need to archive lots of images and put them in a gallery. From a previous post I learned of Drupal, Joomla and Gallery. The problem is I really don't know where to start. I've attached some details of the server.

My questions are -

- Will my hosting company allow me to install a CMS like Drupal or do I have to use only the modules they supply?

- How can I set up a test site alongside the existing one and merge them later?

- How should I arrange the directories for a gallery with, say, 10 categories?

- How do I prevent any security weaknesses like SQL injection from happening?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Totem - Create Screenshot Gallery

Jan 1, 2010

I've made it my new years resolution to sort out my video collection

I know totem can create a png montage with the frames of a video, however, I've only been able to create one at a time. If i told you i have 621 videos to deal with, you can understand why im asking this question.

Is there anyway in which i can script this, so i can can do the entire directory, name the png the title of the film while my pc is doing nothing?, I've looked at the "man" for totem, and there doesnt seem to be anything in there.

Or alternatively, suggest alternate software, which can do the whole thing without scripting?! I've already looked at GframeCapture, but that doesn't do it also.

Fedora :: YUM Update Broke Wordpress And Gallery

Dec 17, 2009

I ran a yum update a couple days ago, and it completed without error. Today I tried logging into Wordpress, and was unable to do so. I get a 403 error. Further investigation shows that I can no longer run any php scripts for Wordpress or Gallery. A look through yum log shows the following packages were installed:

Dec 13 11:22:52 Updated: mysql-libs.i386 5.0.88-1.fc10
Dec 13 11:23:57 Updated: qt-mysql.i386 1:4.5.3-9.fc10
Dec 13 11:37:40 Updated: mysql.i386 5.0.88-1.fc10
Dec 13 11:37:47 Updated: mysql-server.i386 5.0.88-1.fc10

There were no updates to apache, php, or SElinux, so I am at a loss to explain why apache is no longer able to run php scripts.

Red Hat / Fedora :: Terminal - 'unable To Read Input Images'

Apr 28, 2010

1.) Whenever i am starting a new instance of terminal, it is giving messages 'unable to read input images' five times. Actually i had run a shell script that gave this message, but why is it appearing every time, i am opening a new terminal, (that script is already over and it generated the required outputs)? Because of this, when i run 'ls' command, it is showing all the files and directories with the same color, otherwise it used to show them in different colors.

2.) Once my panel had crashed, then i have made a new panel, but after that my instant messenger icon is no more keeps sitting on the system tray as it used to do before, it closes as i close its window otherwise even after closing the window, it used to keep me logged in and the icon use to be there at system tray.

3.) automount for usbdrive not working? Note: all these problems are there only in my own user account. Other user account like root and guest has everything correct.

Could you please point me to some right solution? Where does Debian look for this library?

OpenSUSE :: Unable To Upload Images Because It Cannot Create The Directories Required

Jun 1, 2010

I'm running OpenSuse 11.0 in a lamp configuration with Apache 2. I configured Apache with the .conf files instead of YAST because I am running virtual hosts (that's another story).

My problem is that my server will not render the pages unless the permissions are set to 775 which I know is not necessary. This is also causing a problem because I am trying to install WordPress onto the server. WordPress will run, but it unable to upload images because it cannot create the directories required.

Apache2 is running as 755 with root as owner and www as group. I changed the owner of the htdocs sub-directories to myself, and created a group that has permissions to write to the directory. WordPress runs as my user and has the same permissions (775).

Software :: Download Some Images From A Website - Single Column Of Links To The Images?

Jul 26, 2010

I am running Linux from a DVD, not installed. I am not good with installing software, but since the DVD cannot be corrupted, I am content to operate this way. Lately, I have been having problems that previously did not occur. When I try to click on the checkbox to get rid of emails, it doesn't register in most cases, or when it does, I am clicking multiple times so it registers twice, meaning it is unchecked again. Even more frustrating is some issues that are affecting my ability to update my business. I am trying to modify spreadsheets (text not calculations).

Whenever I try to click & drag to select something to change, it keeps jumping around to select only some of what I want, something else or some combination of the 2. When I try to copy and paste several fields from 1 column to another, everything from the several fields in the source column ends up together in the last field in the target column. I am also trying to download some images from a website. There is a single column of links to the images. I have to click on the link to get to the image in order to copy it, then back out to continue looking for more links to do the same.

My computer keeps jumping back 2 steps, then forward 2 steps, and sometimes I lose my place in that list. I could deal with it if it were a small number of links, but this is a list of probably close to 20,000 links. Again, i am operating off of a live DVD so this should not be corruptible, but this has just started happening, and has been an issue the last several sessions.

convert *png output.pdf

The problem with this is that each image is then stretched to fit on one page, whereas I would like to keep the original dimensions of the images and put as many as possible on one page in the PDF file before moving on to another page.

General :: Replace DVD / CD Install Images With USB Images

Sep 21, 2009

I am just spent half an hour hunting for a thing that should be totally available already:USB install images of Ubuntu, knoppix and all the others. And, the only good way are so far complicated tutorials where you extract the stuff from an CD image. Why??Hasn't everybody notices that CDs/DVDs are vanishing big time? That more and more systems don't have the readers anymore? Instead of following a 10 point instruction list, it would be nice to just be able to download a Ubuntu 8.10 or whatever USB image and be able to beam that DIRECTLY to a USB stick with a dd command.

Or am a missing something here? Does this exist? It should by no means be mariginal, considering how important USB stick in specific and flash memory in general have become.

Ubuntu :: Booting Various Iso Images From Usb?

Mar 24, 2010

I've searched for answers in google, but get not i wanted. I wanted to prepare bootable iso from usb under Ubuntu. Fine, there's UNetBootin, dd if= of= command etc. But I am concerned and the specific type of iso images booting - AntiVirus rescue cd's.

Using UNetBootin i could only prepare thumb drive to boot Dr. Web Rescue CD, but neither Kaspersky Rescue Disk nor F-Secure Rescue CD couldn't be preapred well (NOTE that my BIOS can boot livecd from usb drive!). Using dd if= of= command also didn't worked, cause prepared thumb couldn't boot - get errors: "Missing operating system" or "Could not find kernel image: linux". Is it that i must install grub/lilo or syslinux on thumb, then edit .cfg file and then copy image, or what? I'm concerned only on AV Rescue Disk's, like: Kaspersky, F-Secure, GData Boot CD, BitDefender Rescue Disk etc. I've booted (and it worked) Symantec boot cd but it's based on WinPE and i had prepared thumb under Windows 7, so it's a completely different story.

I have Bootable USB Drive Assistant in my Ubuntu 9.04 but when i try to choose some of those cd's, i get error that "It isn't installable CD image, so application can't use it" or something like that. What application do i have to use then?
