Ubuntu :: Gnumeric Spreadsheet Printing Hash Marks
Apr 10, 2010
I have created a very simple spreadsheet - using gnumeric - with small numbers and simple formulas - the numbers fit easily inside their cells - the formatting all seems in order BEFORE I try to print. When I set up the spreadsheet for printing - and "print preview" the document, I see hash marks in place of numbers in a majority of the cells. When I print the document, the hash marks are printed, in place of the numbers. When I view the document under normal circumstances, for editing - the hash marks are not present. All seems well. I cannot print the spreadsheet without the hash marks (#####) appearing!

In the rpm manual, Print 50 hash marks as the package archive is unpacked. Use with -v|--verbose for a nicer display. But actually, there're not enough hash marks when I'm installing a package. About 44 hash marks there...Well, I just want to know where the `50 hash marks' are.

which repo do I have to enable to get Gnumeric in SL 5.5...?
I am aware that one should be very careful about the configuration files of Yum... in order not to b0rk the system...
And some repos can be conflicting with others...
And building this from source hits with a lot of unmet dependencies..

Whenever I edit a spreadsheet in Gnumeric, I have to have an argument about saving the edited version. First, it says it wants to save it in Gnumeric's XML format instead of whatever format I opened it in, and then I get a dialog warning me the file already exists,is it OK to overwrite it? All my spreadsheets are either .odt or .csv. I just want to be able to open, edit and save without an argument every time. It's like telling a child that it's bed time and having the same argument every night, and it's getting on my nerves. Is there a setting where I can get gnumeric to obediently save the edited version, or do I just have to put up with the slower opening times of LibreOffice instead?

If you find Abiword and Gnumeric are not working after upgrading libgoffice-0.8 a quick fix is by creating the following link:
Code:
cd /usr/lib
ln -s libgoffice-0.8.so.8.0.0 libgoffice-0.8.so.7
Abiword and Gnumeric are now working as before.
I found this from the following bug-report:[URL]

I expected more from ubuntu 10.4 with regards to printing with exact size photos and with poor auto colour printing but the situation remains unchanged! for instance .. the photo size configurations for ubuntu/fspot/gimp and others are not compatible with my printers (HP and Brother) .. here in Europe a typical standard size photo (10x15inches or 150x100mm are not even on the Ubuntu listing? I have tried all listed possibilities including "custom" (which does not seem to ever work correctly?)and the result at best is photos with uneven boarders or at worse my printer goes a bit crazy with much wasted photo paper and expensive ink ...even photos selected for "no boarders" still produces photos with the self same uneven boarders.
I have tried pretty much everything over time following advice in this forum and including using HPlip and updating drivers required for my Brother printer but the root problem seemingly lies with the Ubunto photo size setup listing. Working with Ubuntu over the years I have found that it can do pretty much everything that Windows can do except for this dam ongoing photo quality and configuration problem.

I'm writing some code to speed up some code writing, basically it produces some code I use in every project. I produce the outputs with fstream filestr;, open a file and write to some data to it. However some code has quote marks that I need to output, however I can't use quote marks.
EG: filestr<<"#include "Header.h""<<endl;I get round this with some awful filestr.put ('"');However I'm sure there must be a straight forward way to do this. Can anyone advise?

Gnumeric 1.10.1. I tried editing a .xls spreadsheet with gnumeric and I came across the message "operation not supported".
I tried running Gnumeric from terminal to see if there was any more info regarding the save, but it just outputted that one message "Operation not supported" and that was it.
The .xls file is on another partition so I figured maybe Ubuntu mounted the partition in read-only, but no - I can edit other documents on the partition.
I right clicked on the .xls file to see the permissions and it says Owner Group and Others are all read+write.
I uninstalled and reinstalled gnumeric, but no change.

I have added a Latvian keyboard layout to my Ubuntu 9.10 system (Russian as the system language). I cannot type Latvian letters with diacritical marks. I chose an apostrophe-based keyboard layout, so that I get the letter I need by pressing an apostrophe before. For example, to get ā, I would press 'a.The problem is, when I press ' followed by a letter or space bar, nothing appears on the screen. I continue typing as normal, but each time I press an apostrophe, the next character I press displays nothing on the screen. I have tried installing a Latvian language pack through System -> Administration -> Language Support. It was generally a useful addition. But it did not solve the problem. I still could not type Latvian. After that, I tried removing the Latvian layout from settings and adding it again. It did not help. I tried removing the layout, restarting my computer, and adding the layout back. The problem was not resolved.
I have tried different Lativan layouts (with tilde, with F, and standard). I had the same problem regardless of the layout I used. I browsed dozens of forum threads, and in one of them I found a workaround for this problem. For example, to type , I hold down Shift and Control together, and while holding them press u0160 (because 0160 is a hex code for in the character map). The first 0 is not significant, so to save time I type u160. I looked up the hex codes for the letters I need in Applications -> Accessories -> Character Map. In that application, at the bottom of the window, for each letter there is a code U+(four hex digits) e.g. U+012A. I wrote out all the codes I need on a small paper slip and stuck it to my monitor.Entering symbols this way is rather inconvenient. But at least it is possible. How to enter Latvian letters using just a Latvian keyboard layout? Is it a bug I should file? Would be great to find out.

I tried to move a file from my desktop to another folder; moving it was not allowed, for some reason. Neither was opening it and saving a new copy in the target folder. Would that be because the filename contains double (") quotation marks? Are they not allowed? The filename is Edit of Bob's "Lady Liberty" Article.doc. [Filename not enclosed in quotation marks here, to avoid confusion.]I just changed the double quotation marks to single quotation marks; that solved everything.

I want to put a string, such as the one found in the image, into an array that will later be chopped into individual words and put into another array of individual words found in the initial string. (or, perhaps, I would be able to do that initially, but for now, that is the goal)My question is, how can I do that without using quotation marks?

what is the purpose of the parameter within single quotation marks and what it does? I am assuming it is a call to pkg-config with those paramaters.
Code: Select allgcc -o gtkprog gtkprog.c `pkg-config --libs --cflags gtk+-2.0`
Using:
Code: Select allpkg-config --libs --cflags gtk+-2.0
-pthread -I/usr/include/gtk-2.0 -I/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gtk-2.0/include -I/usr/include/gio-unix-2.0/ -I/usr/include/cairo -I/usr/include/pango-1.0 -I/usr/include/atk-1.0 -I/usr/include/cairo -I/usr/include/pixman-1 -I/usr/include/libpng12 -I/usr/include/gdk-pixbuf-2.0 -I/usr/include/libpng12 -I/usr/include/pango-1.0 -I/usr/include/harfbuzz -I/usr/include/pango-1.0 -I/usr/include/glib-2.0 -I/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/glib-2.0/include -I/usr/include/freetype2 -lgtk-x11-2.0 -lgdk-x11-2.0 -lpangocairo-1.0 -latk-1.0 -lcairo -lgdk_pixbuf-2.0 -lgio-2.0 -lpangoft2-1.0 -lpango-1.0 -lgobject-2.0 -lglib-2.0 -lfontconfig -lfreetype
So, if my logic serves me right, this command parameter is a neat replacement for this litany of libraries to be used in the compilation process.

I'm trying to create a simple times table on OpenOffice.org Spreadsheet
I'm trying to use the "$" in the top tab (input line) i.e.
Quote:
=A3*$B2$
Quote:
=A3*$B3$
[Code].....
To make the question clearer. When I used to use Microsoft Excel in Windows I would do just as I said in the above and I would be able to construct simple multiplication tables to more bigger/harder to memorize kind of type. And that would be by dragging the rectangle from it's bottom-right corner
Screenshot-5.jpg
Screenshot-4.jpg
So my question is what's the alternative OpenOffice.org Spreadsheet symbol for the "$" symbol used in the formula bar in Microsoft Excel?

I'm having some trouble with hyperlinks in openoffice 3.2 spreadsheet, though it may be a begginers problem.
I wrote a script to execute a certain task (in my case, to open an DNA alignment file with bioedit) and then, in openoffice, I assigned a hyperlink button to the path needed to execute the script, which is in my /home ("./script_file"). When I do this the first time, clicking the hyperlink button runs the script perfectly. However, whenever I close openoffice and re-open it afterwards, the hyperlink doesn't work anymore. I've checked and this happens because the original URL, which was "./script_file" changes to /home/user/etc... or /temp/etc... and, obviously the file isn't found. If I manually correct the URL, the hyperlink is functional again... how to fix the URL of an hyperlink so that I won't have to correct it every time I close and re-open the program?

Is there any way to make an OpenOffice spread sheet open to the last cell that was edited? I have a friend that has a very large spreadsheet, and would like to have it open to where he left off, rather than cell A1. He says excel does, or can be made to do this.

I know this is more of the Openoffice question but I felt I would find some solution here for this. At my work I am using lot of PDF files which are created using Openoffice Calc (Spreadsheet). I want to convert those PDFs to Calc file again for editing. Currently I am using a windows Machine with able2extract pdf converter for converting PDFs to .xls file. But it is not ideal solution for Linux and Openoffice users here.

I'm in an Aussie rules fantasy football competition and someone posted a zip file with relevant stats for players in the under 18 comp, as a guide for selecting possible players in next years team. Never used any of the office applications. I've attached the zip file and this is what the poster said...
In the actual spreadsheet though, there are two sheets. The first is all the raw data which you can order by position (based on me watching the games, and the line-ups listed on the AFL websites), K: H ratio, state etc. The second is a sheet which you can use to compare players.
I find that sometimes it is easier for me to make decisions about which players to pick when the stats are more obvious, so if you are the same, you can use this sheet as well. Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy the spreadsheet and I'll update it after each round. Fixed, I had to change the file from .zip to .xlsx
