General :: Double Quotation Marks Allowed In Filenames?

May 19, 2010

I tried to move a file from my desktop to another folder; moving it was not allowed, for some reason. Neither was opening it and saving a new copy in the target folder. Would that be because the filename contains double (") quotation marks? Are they not allowed? The filename is Edit of Bob's "Lady Liberty" Article.doc. [Filename not enclosed in quotation marks here, to avoid confusion.]I just changed the double quotation marks to single quotation marks; that solved everything.

EG: filestr<<"#include "Header.h""<<endl;I get round this with some awful filestr.put ('"');However I'm sure there must be a straight forward way to do this. Can anyone advise?

Debian Programming :: What Is Purpose Of Parameter Within Single Quotation Marks

Oct 20, 2014

what is the purpose of the parameter within single quotation marks and what it does? I am assuming it is a call to pkg-config with those paramaters.

Code: Select allgcc -o gtkprog gtkprog.c `pkg-config --libs --cflags gtk+-2.0`

Using:
Code: Select allpkg-config --libs --cflags gtk+-2.0
-pthread -I/usr/include/gtk-2.0 -I/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gtk-2.0/include -I/usr/include/gio-unix-2.0/ -I/usr/include/cairo -I/usr/include/pango-1.0 -I/usr/include/atk-1.0 -I/usr/include/cairo -I/usr/include/pixman-1 -I/usr/include/libpng12 -I/usr/include/gdk-pixbuf-2.0 -I/usr/include/libpng12 -I/usr/include/pango-1.0 -I/usr/include/harfbuzz -I/usr/include/pango-1.0 -I/usr/include/glib-2.0 -I/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/glib-2.0/include -I/usr/include/freetype2 -lgtk-x11-2.0 -lgdk-x11-2.0 -lpangocairo-1.0 -latk-1.0 -lcairo -lgdk_pixbuf-2.0 -lgio-2.0 -lpangoft2-1.0 -lpango-1.0 -lgobject-2.0 -lglib-2.0 -lfontconfig -lfreetype

So, if my logic serves me right, this command parameter is a neat replacement for this litany of libraries to be used in the compilation process.

General :: How To Use Rsync When Filenames Contain Double Quotes

Jan 29, 2011

I am trying to synchronize the content of the directory my_dir/ from /home to /backup. This directory contains a file which name has a double quote in it, such as to"to. Here is my rsync command:
rsync -Cazh /home/my_dir/ /backup/my_dir/

And I get the following message:
rsync: mkstemp "/backup/my_dir/.to"to.d93PZr" failed: Invalid argument (22)
For info, rsync works well when the synchronized filenames contain single quote, parenthesis and space. Thus, why is it bugging with a double quote?

beach---------20090808-120000.ogg

It's like this:

Hardware :: Kernel Double Fault, Laptop Froze On Distro / Getting Error Double Fault: 0000 [#1] SMP?

Jun 19, 2010

My laptop's been locking up in Linux (Ubuntu, Backtrack, Puppy) periodically for a while now. When it locked up, it was always immune to the magic of SysRq, which I thought might indicate a hardware problem. It became so bad that I had to stop using the laptop.

Today, when I turned it on and tried to boot into Fedora 12, I got the following error (just once, it just locked up at various points during the splash screen after this once):

double fault: 0000 [#1] SMP
last sysfs file:
CPU 0
odules linked in:
Pid: 1, co m: swapper Not ta nted 2.6.32.11-99.fc 2.x86_64 #VGN-T 250N
RIP: 0010:[<ff

All the seemingly missing letters were really missing, not my typos.

As you can see, kernel version is 2.6.32.11-99.fc12.x86_64 and my laptop is a Sony Vaio TZ 250N (Core 2 Duo ULV 1.2GHZ). Note that with the other remaining kernels from the updates, nothing ever happened other than the locking up. The core temperatures hover pretty high, about 55-60C peak but this is still below the critical temp. Memtest came up clean when the problem first started happening.

list filenames one-per-line, in BASH without including directories. I think he was either wrong or making that up. There is a way to list just the names and one per line but there aren't any arguments I can find that can be used to exclude directories.

Code:

I want to do operations on some of the older ones. Let's say I give it a string for date time that matches that exact format, like i'll give it2011-06-25_00.00.00 // june 25th, 12amI want to find all the directories BEFORE my time. So if i give the string for 12am on june 25th, i want to find all the directories before then.If not i can find EVERY directory i have like this and then filter after wards. The created/modified dates are not tied to the actual timestamp im looking for (that would make this easier)
