Ubuntu :: Getting Canon Ip3600 Running With 10.10?
Mar 4, 2011
For all those who are having trouble running a canon ip3600, I am running a canon ip3600 networked from a win 7 machine. I found i could get it to print using the ip4600 driver on my ubuntu 10.10 machine. Prints test pages, not sure what it will be like with graphics, as you cannot select colour output of KMY PK C so i am using KCMY. But it does print text ok.

Okay, according to CUPS, I've installed this printer, but whenever I try to print, it tells me it's completed, but the printer does nothing. So I search a little and found some Canon Linux drivers from Canon Europe. I downloaded the RPM version, which gave me two files: cnijfilter-common-3.00-1.i386.rpm and cnijfilter-ip3600series-3.00-1.i386.rpm. So I installed the common file, followed by the ip3600 file, using rpm -ivh [file name] at command line. The RPM install went fine. However, what do I do now? I tried searching the CUPS list of printers, and nothing new is listed (oddly, CUPS seemed to have drivers for virtually every iPxxxx printer except the 3600 when I first installed). I tried restarting cups, no difference. I even tried to print (suspecting nothing had changed, but hoping) and it still thinks it's printing, but nothing comes out. What did installing those two RPMs do? Did it put a file somewhere that I need to reference in the cups admin page?

I cannot print with my Canon MX860. I have downloaded the proper drivers from the Canon Europe website and forced the arch to x64 as described on many sites. When I try to print a test page I get the error that "Idle - /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstocanonij failed". I have checked in lib64 and pstocanonij was there as well. If I change the URI from USB to CNIJUSB then I get the error that "cnijusb has failed". It may be possible to get this working as in another forum someone claims to be successful. I am able to use the scanner with the sane-backends package, so that is not a problem.

it is shown as my default printer, and even spits out a sheet when I try to print something. The 'Test Page' actually includes some ink and lines but does not look like the real thing.

Does anyone have an idea of where i can find a driver for this printer? The system does not have one and if I try a driver for say the PIXMA MP220 which is CUPS + Gutenprint v5.2.4 [en] (actually, all the PIXMA drivers are that one) and I print the printer seems like it receives some command but nothing else happens. The printer says 'Printing from PC' and then goes back to the main screen.

I have a Canon Powershot A470 digital camera and can't get to transfer the pictures from it on Ubuntu 10.04. When I had Ubuntu 9.04 I imported pictures from the same camera without any problems. I considered that the problem could be the camera itself or the USB cable, but I have just accessed my pictures from that camera using Windows Vista.
Basically, what I have tried is 1) connecting the USB cable to the camera and the computer; 2) set the command button to the playback position; 3) turn on the camera. Using Windows Vista, this series of procedures opens the camera folder (as a flash drive) on Windows Explorer and this is what used to happen when I was using Ubuntu 9.04. I expected this to happen using the Lucid Lynx, but I didn't get even close. I even opened the Home Folder to see if something new showed up there when I hooked up the camera and turned it on.
Since I'm new with Ubuntu (especially the Lucid Lynx), I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have read that sometimes we have to mount devices in order to get them to communicate with the computer. Is this one of those cases? If so, how do I do it? Does anyone else have the same model of digital camera? How do you guys transfer the pictures to your Ubuntu-based system?

I have recently lost the use of my schools printers (schools out of session), and found myself in need of printing a document. I have a Canon Pixima ip1700, but I can only find software for a wide variety of Windows OS and a Mac. Unfortunately for this situation, I'm using Ubuntu 10.04. I've searched through the Software Center, and found an assortment of printer related software, but I don't know how to use any of it to allow my computer to print this single, lonely page.nDoes anyone have any advice as to how to connect a computer to a printer? Beyond putting the long cord into the USB thingy, that is, and preferably without using TurboPrint, or any other software that leaves a banner?

Been using ubnutu gnome for a loooong time and my printer (Canon MX340) has been running just fine, configuration and usage.
I now switch to kde. configure my printer the same way i would under gnome and as soon as i send a job, it processes for about 3 seconds and just marks "stopped" under status. nothing goes through anymore!!
i've updated from 4.5 to 4.6 with backports and nothing is happening on there either.
im running maverick amd64 and using the i386 drivers (with dpkg -i --force-all) which are still recognized even under kde.
p.s.: the printer normally runs as wireless standalone (no samba/cups involvment whatsoever)

I was using 10.04 until a few days ago, and with 10.04 my printer worked fine, I used the default drivers for MP150 and that worked fine. But now I'm using 11.04 and I'm trying to instal the printer with the default drivers for MP150 but it's not working. When Ubuntu tries to find the driver is not giving me any result for MP140, so I'm selecting the option "CANON PIXMA MP150 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.6 Simplified [en] (Recomended)" and allows me to click next and to give a name to the printer and to hit next, but then the windows closes and that's it then I go to System > Admin > Printer and I double click the printer I just created and I click Print Test Page and then it gives me "Printer Status: Processing - Printing Page 1.8%" and after 4minutes or so gives me "Installation or actualization of package "python-xmpp 0.4.1-cvx20080505.2" failed" and that's it Is there a way to fix this? I have no idea why this is not working since it worked fine in 10.04, and I really need to use the printer and the scanner as soon as possible

Is there a way to print from a Canon MX 330 All-in-One printer in Ubuntu 9.04? I'm trying to print through a Linksys WRT54G router. The printer is physically connected to a Desktop PC running Windows Vista (64-bit).I've tried installing the printer though CUPS to no avail. I tried the iP4600, iP3600 and iP2600 drivers and none of them have worked for me. I've even tried the Gutenprint PIXMA IP4600 drivers.

I just bought a new printer yesterday. It is a Canon Pixma iP2600 series. I connected everything properly and my computer found the drivers and told me the printer was ready for use. However, when I tried to print out a test page the computer said it was printing, the printer was flashing as it should, but nothing was printing out. Is there some switch I need to turn on or off? Is there something that I need to type in or delete somewhere? The old printer was a HP deskjet and it did work even if it was a little slow being that it is over 8 years old.

From time to time I do a bit of astrophotography and time lapse using a canon 350d. To do it properly I have to use a remote capture program on the laptop. This was never a problem on windows or the mac. Does anyone know of a way to control my camera on ubuntu 10.04 netbook edition?
I have installed gphoto2 and this allows a command line method but I dont like command lines for this kind of stuff, plus id like to see the image straight away. I have tried a couple of GUIs for gphoto but the only one which seems to have a capture option is digikam.... but the button is shaded out so I cant use it.

I have finaly gotten the Canon Pixma MP495 working under Ubuntu 10.10, with full resolution capabilities of the printer. This printer is only advirtised as having a max resolution of 4800x1200 DPI. However, I called Canon to get the full range of print resolutions and was informed that this printer is capable of 9600x2400 DPI.I haven't tested this below Ubuntu 10.04 but it should work fine.
For setting your MP495 printer up on your network without the use of a Windows or Mac machine (Fresh out of the box with Ubuntu) you will need to match your Routers SSID to the printers default SSID, and remove any security you have enabled. This will allow the printer to connect to your network.
Printer Defaults:
SSID: BJNPSETUP
IP ADDRESS: Automatic
Once you have done that you will need to activate the wireless lan on the printer.Press the Maintenance button on the printer 13 times until you see what looks like a capital G without the middle line. Then press the color start button. (refer to page 10 of your Network Setup Troubleshooting manual for an actual picture of the symbol) You should see the wifi light on the front of the printer turn on and be solid not be blinking. (If it is blinking check your routers SSID settings and match the Default SSID of the printer as listed above.
Now download angryipscanner AngryIPScanner and install it by double clicking it. It should open in the Software center or with the Gdebi installer. (this may take a few minutes to install.)Once you have installed AngryIPScanner, run it and change the ip range to include from 1 - 254 in the last octet. Then click start. When it finishes look for an active connection with a Hostname like A001BF000000.local. Yours may be different but should be very simular.
The IP address given for that hostname is the IP address of your printer. Open Firefox and type that address in the address bar and press enter. From there you can configure you printer for the SSID, and encryption that you had on your router before the change, and set a static IP for the printer so you can manage it easily. After you change the SSID and encryption on the printer you will have to go back to your router and change the SSID and encryption back to what it was before so your printer can connect again. Now your network should be back the way it was and your printer should be connected Now that you have successfully connected the printer to your wireless network continue with the rest of the installation. Download the drivers for the MP495 . You will be downloading cnijfilter-mp495series-3.40-1-deb.tar.gz.
Extract cnijfilter-mp495series-3.40-1-deb.tar.gz to your Home directory.Change the permissions of the install.sh file to run and an executable by Right licking on install.sh and then left clicking Properties. Click on the Permissions tab and put a check mark in the Allow Executing file as program box. Then open a terminal and type: [CODE]sudo ./install.sh[CODE] Follow the prompts and if you are using the printer over the network select network when prompted. I you are using it via USB choose USB. Don't forget to scroll down to complete setting up your printer to use full resolution and set up the scanner. If the first method didnt work try this.Open a terminal and enter
Code:
cd /home/*/cnijfilter-mp495series-3.40-1-deb/packages. (Enter your username where the astride is.)
Quote:
For 64 bit systems you need to replace cnijfilter-common_3.40-1_i386.deb, and cnijfilter-mp495series_3.40-1_i386.deb with cnijfilter-common_3.40-1_amd64.deb, and cnijfilter-mp495series_3.40-1_amd64.deb. For the printer setup. For the scanner replace scangearmp-

I need a website that can give me information on a weird hardware hack I want to do.
I have tried searching google and the terminology I use does not give me the information I want.
I have a Canon PowerShot A720. It does not work as a webcam. Many years ago I had a Sony that if you left the memory stick out, it would stream video
straight through to the USB cable and then to the computer. The Canon will not do that.
I would like to trick the Canon into thinking that a memory card was in place. I want to build a USB cable that has the male memory card connection on one end that I can plug into the camera and a USB connection to my computer on the other.

It is visible to F-Spot and I can import pictures, it just doesn't automount. I saw other posts where no usb automounts were occurring. Not my problem. Memory sticks and external hard drives automount just fine. Only the camera is a problem child.
