Ubuntu :: GTK Can't Find Icon For Colorcode?
Mar 23, 2011
I'm editing some icons for a set that's missing a few programs. I've done several program icons this way, without trouble. Starting from a SVG, i check the proper name for the icon (by assigning it to the program's tray icon in Cairo-Dock, which automatically copies the original and renames that as it should be.). Then i create a copy in 48, 32, 24, 22, 16 pixel sizes, move them into the /usr/share/icons/ICONSET folder and voFor some reason after i created an icon for Colorcode, GTK does not pick up the icon in Ubuntu menus nor in Synapse. The name of the icon, from all the sources i've been able to find, seems to be simply "colorcode"

The short version: I have created a launcher shortcut on my Desktop for Evolution Mail, and right now it uses the springboard icon. I would like to use the icon that I see in the applications menu launcher for Evolution. Where do I find this icon?
The longer version: A few Ubuntu versions ago, I got rid of the Evolution Mail icon from the top panel, as there was no apparent way for me to set mail accounts to other than the standard ports. I went with Thunderbird instead.
Well, while Thunderbird gives me a box to set the port number in, Evolution doesn't, but I can still specify my nonstandard port by placing a : and the port number after: example.com:26 for a mail server at example.com om port 26.
Now, I have put Evolution Mail to use, and have created a desktop launcher for it. For now I am using the default springboard icon. I see the envelope icon in the applications menu for Evolution but I have no idea of the icon's address. I am familiar with Windows XP, and it is easy to assign a program's icon to a new shortcut. I have just added shortcut for example.exe. I go to the shortcut's Properties and click on the icon, and immediately see the program or library file that contains the icon I am currently using, either as an embedded icon or set of icons, or I see an .ico file for that icon. I can navigate to Program Filesexample and see either example.exe with its embedded icons or example.ico.
I created a new shortcut on my Ubuntu Desktop. and was presented with a springboard icon. I click on the icon in the creation process and am presented with a pile of generic icons, much the same as with Windows.
if I open the Properties and click on the icon, I end up looking at a listing in my Home directory. This is regardless of where the current icon is located. I looked in /usr/share/applications/evolution and saw icons folder, but it had no envelope for Evolution Mail. All I see is icons dealing with the calendar, in anything from 16x16 to 48x48 and scalable.

I have another complaint:I cannot find the Trash icon. I want to clean up my disk space. I googled how to delete files and I wasn't sure which way was best. I sometimes use the 'trash' and 'empty trash bin' except I cannot find the icon.I assume there is a command for doing that but after googling, there are only a few (OLDER) posts or articles of doing it in older versions of Fedora and they're all Gnome-based. My install is KDE.

I am going to make a long story by saying that the ATI propriety driver crashed my whole system and I managed to get a backup of my files and such so I did not lose to much, but after installing 10.10 I cannot find the "social" icon on the top gnome panel. With this I mean the icon you could click and then you could compose new mail, check mail, start liferea, you name it.

I've installed Office 2007 under wine, and would like to add launchers for Word, Excel, etc to the Unity launcher bar.
So, I've created a launcher on the Desktop that will run Word with wine. I've changed the icon to the Word Icon and everything works great from the desktop. If I drag that launcher to the Unity bar, it adds it, but changes the icon to the springboard default icon that new launchers use. Please see attached picture.
As a side note, I am really starting to like Unity (puts on flamesuit), but it seems very easy to break the install of 11.04. I've had to reinstall 4 times now.

I have recently installed Faenza icon theme and just began to notice the inconsistency of icon emblems being displayed by compiz.Attached image shows the emblems of Chromium, Nautilus and Comix are that of the default icons, while Empathy andCompizConfigSettingsManager displayed the custom icon correctly. The dock displays all apps' icons correctly though.The issue does not occur exclusively to Application Switcher (Alt+Tab), it also occurs with Scale (Super+W), Shift Switcher (Super+Tab).

My question is how do I remove the home directory and the trash icon from the desktop? Or better said what is the path to removing the symbolic link, I cannot find the symbolic links in the desktop directory. It is empty, I do not see any symbolic links under /home/test/Desktop?

I'm trying to add .desktop file for my application but I'm stuck with very strange problem.I created 48x48 icon for my program called etmmanager.png.I created .desktop file according to specifications:
Code:
[Desktop Entry]
X-SuSE-translate=true
Categories=Application;Utility;X-SuSE-TimeUtility;
Comment=ETM Manager for time logging
Exec=etmmanager
code....
My problem is that icon is not working in menu! I can find my program in Utilities->Time->ETM Manager and this is what I wanted, but there is no icon for the program.
It starts working if I specify absolute path in etmmanager.desktop file like
Code:
Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/etmmanager.png
About my system - Opensuse 11.1 KDE 4.2

I have d/l and am using an icon theme I got from gnome-look. I like all the icons except for a few, specifically the trash, and would like to change them but I can't figure out how. I d/l an empty and full trash icon. I looked in the /home/username/.icons/themename folder and found the two trash icons that came with the theme (they were in ~/.icons/themename/scalable/places). Changed the names of the ones I d/l and replaced those current ones with them.how to do this? I would also like to change the Menu Bar icon back to the gnome foot.

3 computers in the house run various windows based programs and everything is fine with them connecting to the internet as far as putting in the security password to log in and get online.My old back up computer that I use in the basement that has Ubuntu 9.10 was working fine with the secured network situation up until today.I booted up the computer this morning and it automatically connected as it typically does and I was reading some email and then the computer froze, which on rare occasions it does.
Upon reboot I got a window that asked for the password for the Network Manager Applet which I supplied and then it asked for the password for the secured internet connection which I supplied.It would not connect. After numerous tries of disabling the wireless and enabling the wireless and entering the Network Manager Applet password and the secured internet password I still get no connection.
I notice that when it is trying to connect, the window comes up on the screen that shows that there is reception from the modem, but there is also a little "lock" icon like I'm locked out of the connection.I finally found a way to get rid of the Network Manager Applet password problem but that still didn't alleviate the connection problem.

I have Ubuntu 10.04 installed on a laptop of mine, and also a desktop. On this laptop, it's a clean install and I'm having a weird issue with the panel on the top of thescreen.ometimes when I start up the computer and login, I get two noticeable quirks. Instead of having the wireless icon in the tray next to the volume, I have two volume controls next to each other.The one icon, that takes place of the wireless icon, is not functional.The other volume icon functions as normal.
The other quirk is that my power button, used for choosing to logout, shutdown,etc,isappears. Instead, it shows two of my username next to each other (one is the legitimate one that lets you set your away status and such). And in place of the power button, is another username menu, but it is cut off by the edge of the screen and doesn't function.Has anybody had this problem before? Is there some kind of package I can update or reinstall to try fixing this? Sometimes the power button will be fine, but the volume icon will still double up.

The find command does not seem to find all files in my directory hierarchy. My home directory is automounted from a server. The command to illustrate this is:find | sed -e 's/^.///' | sed -e 's//.*//' | sort -uThe result misses several directories. Likewise, a find of a particular file, like:find . -iname *sample* -printwhere sample_file.txt resides in one of the directories that is missing in the first find command, finds nothing
