I was running OpenSuse and realized that I hated it. I backed up my bookmarks to a USB flash drive, formatted and installed Ubuntu 10.04.
On entering Ubuntu, I stuck the USB flash drive in and realized that the bookmarks never got copied. I've lost them. I have to have those bookmarks. What would be the best way to get them back?
I had MineField on (FF4 Pre-Release) and went for a long time with it bookmarking and everything... Today I thought I'd upgrade to FF4... and assumed that the bookmarks would be kept...
And they weren't... boo...
So is there a special file or anything where the minefield bookmarks are kept?
After several site:centos.org searches on Google and not finding anything remotely related to this question, I ask, how do I update Firefox 3.0 to Firefox 3.5 without losing any of my settings, history, bookmarks ,etc.?

I have 2 HDD in my PC . The 2nd one is a 1TB Western Digital Harddisk which was formatted in Win XP NTFS and just 1 partition, using it for archieve (Film- Music - Apps ... ). I was trying to use fdisk command , but unfortunately destroy the data , format and partition it like this picture :

I did not find the solution to my problem reading other posts so I apologize in advance if this question has been solved in a previous thread.I recently started having input/output errors when trying to access directories on my external HD. Today I moved the content of my external HD to a single directory before starting a backup. Since then I can not access this backup directory anymore although the external HD automatically mounts when I turn it on.
I tried my luck starting the external HD in Windows but it wont show up in the explorer. What should I do to be able to mount it in windows and is there any way this would fix the problem?I'm running xubuntu kernel v 2.6.27-14-generic and the external HD is an acomdata.
I upgraded from Karmic to Lucid (Ubuntu 10.04) a few days ago (without backing up any data first). At first everything seemed fine but yesterday three things happened:
1. All my emails and address book have disappeared in Thunderbird. When I started Thunderbird, it took me through the wizard and seems to have overwritten my profile with a new one. There is only one profile in the Thunderbird folder and it seems to contain no emails and only a new, blank address book (the small size of the folder backs this up. I searched the hard drive but found no other emails or address book files.
2. My bookmarks have disappeared from Google Chrome. Again, it seems to have created a new, blank bookmark file. The bookmark.bak file is similarly blank and when I search I can find no other bookmark files.
3. The Pictures folder (in the home folder) is now empty; suggesting that ubuntu has either overwritten the Pictures folder with a new blank folder or deleted all the files in it. Again, when I search the hard drive for jpg files, it doesn't find any of the pictures that were in the Pictures folder.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have 3 drives in my computer. I installed Fedora 11 on my two biggest one, with the LVM treating them as one single drive. I attempted to install XP on my last drive. As I was installing, I selected my third drive (I'm 100% sure it is the correct drive as it is an 80gb whilst the others are 120 and 200 respectively) and told it to delete the partition on that drive and format. After I did that, it started to format, starting with my 120! I'm fairly sure that it was merely a quick format, as it only took 5-10 seconds for it to format, and that my data is still there. Is there any way to recover my "lost" data, or did I just really screw myself over?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently deleted winxp from my com and and decided to do a clean install of ubuntu. so i set the boot sequence and hdd boot importance to my flash drive with the ubuntu setup and folders in the usb. there are the apps for mounting the files on the it also from when i used it before using the linux universal usb installer, which worked before on my current com. but cmos cant boot from the drive and says error. is the usb installer at fault? and if not how do i install ubuntu on the formatted com?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI accidentally formatted my internal HDD and unmounted it and now my computer won't detect it as a bootable device. I have a system recovery disc but it doesn't seem to be making any difference. Also I do not have my windows 7 installation disc nor can I write discs.
Is there a way I can fix this and keep all of my important files?

I am running Ubuntu 9.10 on my desktop computer which runs a Core 2 Duo at 3.2ghz and I have 2 gig of RAM. I have installed all the latest Ubuntu updates.
In Firefox, I have about 70 bookmarks in the bookmarks toolbar. Obviously the bar can't show 70 so most of them are in the dropdown section of the bar on the right. When I add a new bookmark, Firefox adds it to the end of the dropdown. Sometimes I want them to be closer to the top so I scroll down, click and drag it up closer to the top. In Firefox under Windows this works fine. However in Firefox under Ubuntu, as soon as I start to drag it up Firefox turns gray and Ubuntu totally locks up. Everything in Ubuntu freezes. The main bar at the top stays color, only Firefox turns gray. I tried clicking around but it's frozen. I tried pressing Esc, ctrl-alt-delete, and a number of other keys but noting will unfreeze Ubuntu. I have to physically turn off my computer and reboot.
So I was playing RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 in a WINE Virtual Desktop when I went to check my email. I launched Firefox and suddenly my bookmarks started to replicate and haven't stopped. I've recorded this happening. Link here: [URL]
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have had 2 people ask me about this lately so I thought I would try it. They want to take a bookmark for a site and put it on their desktop. Seems easy enough - just drag the bookmark to the desktop. It works in chrome but when I tried it on 2 different pc's I get the same error:

Instead of using Firefox default bookmarks use zotero plugin. View 5 Replies View RelatedI just recently figured out how to import bookmarks with FF4. Why did Mozilla see fit to Hide the "Organize Bookmarks" behind the "Show All Bookmarks" menu is beyond me?

Those are pretty nice, but they don't really work within the theme that I am using (airlines).
To relax my eyes, I usually pick less colourful themes. So it'd be cool to get rid of all those obtrusive icons.
I know that some firefox themes don't have them. But I think I like the default one, just not the icons.
I have done a search there and I didn't find any discussion on this. My apologies if this has already been discussed. In which case, an admin can always close this thread, and redirect me.

I just reinstalled my Firefox after a extension problem. Now it will not open my bookmark file I exported before the reinstall. It just goes to the folder above it, which is Ubuntu One. When I go back and try again, it freezes and makes it that I have to close the window and pull it back up again. How can I do this without issues?
