But it doesn't start up. I tried also adding a shortcut to the following location:
/home/USER/.config/autostart/SHORTCUT-TO-FIREFOX
The account I'm trying to get it working on is unprivileged. I'm sure it was working yesterday but can't swear if I had added extra permissions at that stage.
I am using CentOS 5.4. I updated my firefox to 3.6.7. After that when I login in facebook and click anything in facebook, my pc log out, even from root user. cause & solution of this problem.
I just upgraded to 10.10 and I was previously able to run the following command in startup applications preferences menu "command" box to have firefox launch around the time that my wireless card came up:
sleep 20; firefox
For some reason this doesn't work anymore. I can run the command from the terminal and it works fine. Is there something that I'm missing?
I have upgraded from Ubuntu 10.10 64bit to 11.04 64bit. When trying to launch Firefox 4 it crashes the moment it tries to start. Here is the message I get when starting Firefox from the terminal:
My girlfriend has a Toshiba Satellite Athlon64 laptop, and she can't get it to go past the user list dialog before it logs all the way in. We've tried her username and password, but every time we enter it, the screen blanks for a moment and then returns to the user list dialog. I've reset the password by booting to terminal, but it still won't let us past the dialog. I'd hate to have to reinstall her system. Is there any way we can get past this? And, why is it not accepting the password? I couldn't find an open bug on this issue.
Also, we had just installed OpenShot Video Editor during the same session. She said she got it from the Synaptic Package Manager. I'm not sure if this messed with her video settings. We can see X trying to start after we put the password in, but it keeps going back to the user list dialog. Actually, I uninstalled OpenShot and gnome-screensaver from the root prompt, just in case they were causing the issue. I had noticed that the laptop was buggy coming in and out of hibernation. I wonder if that's causing X not to start properly? I did check the startup logs and I didn't see any errors there either.
I upgraded from Ubuntu 10.10 64bit to 11.04 64bit. When trying to launch Firefox from any area (launcher, menu and terminal) It crashes the moment it tries to start. This only happens in the new Unity UI. Switching back to Ubuntu Classic, Firefox runs just fine. Here is the message I get when starting Firefox from the terminal:
I have quiet splash disabled so I can see what boot processes are run on startup, and I notice that on every time I boot my computer the Firefox profile is skipped. Here's the message: Code: Skipping profile in /etc/ apparmor.d/disable: usr.bin.firefox,I checked /etc/apparmor.d/disable, and see that there is indeed a link to usr.bin.firefox. So I'm wondering how/why it got there. I haven't touched anything in AppArmor since my clean install of Natty.
Every time I launch Firefox and go visiting some websites, I notice it freezes for about 10 seconds. Not always in the same websites, but it always happens sometime in the first 2 or 3 minutes of running. I can see the hard disk led is ON all the time the browser is hung.
My operating system is Linux and I don't currently have any extension/plugin installed here.
I have no form completion, no history and have no more than 20-30 bookmarks.
Has somebody noticed something similar, or know how can I debug this to find out what Firefox is doing or trying to do?
trying to get Firefox working properly. I have the tarball installed from Firefoxs site and am using Fedora 12 with KDE as the desktop environment. The problem is if I start Firefox normally, say, by just clicking on the firefox script, then the graphics will be rather crude; but when Firefox starts as soon as I log in (because Ive configured it to auto-start) then the graphics will be nice and smooth. Im having a hard time trying to find answers for this because Im not exactly sure whats happening? I think when it auto-starts as I log in, itll use... well, this is the bit I havent got a clue how to explain? Id guess one time it uses QT, and the other time itll use GTK.
I dont know why its doing this, and when its started normally and I go to shutdown most of the time itll come up with a crash report. There isnt any difference in the way Firefox is being opened, the auto-start calls upon the same script that my shortcut uses, which is the same as clicking on the firefox script in the firefox folder. I have a few images attached to elucidate the problem. I understand I may not have made myself very clear, but Im having a great deal of trouble understanding what precisely is going on.
Firefox can seem a bit glitchy when the crude graphics are in use. Like the mouse-overs which leave traces of the box behind when you move the mouse away. So Im having to logout then back in if Ive happened to close Firefox and want to reopen it...
I'm trying to start an Oracle Integration server as user "oracle" at system startup and my approach was to place a couple of lines in /etc/rc.localsu oracle/home/oracle/startallSomething is not quite right about this as it seems to leave some processes owned by root.
I'm having a weird issue with Lucid. On startup the power/user switcher applet doesn't load correctly, instead I see the me menu applet twice. I don't think I'm explaining this very well, so here's a screenshot.
I recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 through WUBI, but when the installation finished and I went to turn the computer on to Ubuntu, I could not get graphics working. It would appear that the resolution has been set super-high somehow, because a message will pop up saying that I don't have enough video memory to run at the resolution I'm trying. I have tried xfix in recovery modeI don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I'm using a very old monitor.
I downloaded Lucid and installed Mysql and Apache2.I am very familiar with this setup and don't see a reason why this should not work.apache2 and mysql scripts are already located in /etc/init.d chkconfig shows the following:
apache2 on mysql 2345
ps -aux does not show these processes running after a reboot. the services start manually without any problems. there is nothing in the logs that shows it's even trying to startup at boot. What has changed in the new Ubuntu version? I need this fixed through command line only.
My audio was working just fine up until today, when I was working on some audio production stuff. I did QjackCtl, and also ran pulse-jack so I could use another app not in jack. Now, upon a boot up, there is no gnome-volume-control-applet or gnome-volume-control running. When I run gnome-volume-control it says there is no sound device (without Jack running). When I do it with Jack and Pulseaudio running (doing QjackCtl and pulse-jack), gnome-volume-control shows info about jack, but no hardware. I have sound, I just can't affect it volume-wise, etc. When I run pacmd I get this:
$ pacmd Daemon not responding.
When I close QjackCtl I then get an error in a window that says merely: Waiting for sound system to respond.
Sometimes Ubuntu 10.04 will get into a state where the system stops booting when it apparently attempts to initialize the USB keyboard (keyboard goes dead and never lights up again)(Saitek Eclipse II keyboard).
It either works, or doesn't work consistently regardless of reboot. I don't know what makes it stop working. (Or start working) Recovery mode doesn't work either. Or the saved -21 kernal.
I have an ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 and have the -30 generic kernal.
I installed the earth sunrise plymouth theme with super boot manager, and it worked, but only when I was turning it off, it still works when I'm turning it on, except it sits there for like 30 seconds blinking an underscore and then the theme starts up and does nothing for about 3 seconds (it doesn't animate or whatever), and then the gdm screen comes up, so why isn't plymouth really working on startup? and is there a way to fix it?
I have a weird Issue that just started today. Ill open up a new tab in Firefox and the screen goes black and takes me back to the log in screen. Im using Lucid Lynx. If it helps it mostly happens on flash based sites. I have flash block installed but it doesn't always help. Also it happens on random sites. But im not sure why this would log me out.
I have recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 and from my id which has administrator rights, I am unable to save any files as well as unable to change the location in firefox. The firefox version is also in the snapshot as well as the options window. Is it that my profile has been corrupted or is there some bug in firefox.
Not beeing an expert on Ubuntu, but loving it running on my old Dell Dimension 2400 Series, I do have some issues after the upgrade to 9.10.
1) Frozen screen after a while working with the system. Cursor moves, but frozen 2) Black screen at startup.
Retyping this message again on my Mac Laptop as Ubuntu froze again. I took the following action: Followed directions as listed here [URL]
1. Select recovery mode from the boot menu. 2. Select login as root from the menu in recovery mode. 3. Type this at the prompt # sudo apt-get remove xorg-driver-fglrx # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg 4. Exit # exit 5. Now select Resume normal boot from the menu.
Every thing should be OK by now. This seemed to work, but after another reboot, black screen again. System Specs: [URL]. Running with 1 GB of Memory and 320Gb Hard Disk /w 2Gb Swap and 318 Gb Extended.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 minimal with Openbox; far from a standard install but nearly everything works the way it should.
The problem appears quite simple:
Firefox does not recognise installed plugins (i.e, Flash) when running as the standard user; if I run the command 'sudo firefox' however, Firefox loads in plugins just as it should.
I've checked about:plugins in both instances and this has confirmed what is stated above. The list is populated when running as the super user, and empty when running as standard.
My problem is: One of my services has failed to start. All I need is just go into interactive startup and ignore that service. The system is encrypted as LUKS. I press 'i' before and after entering the phrase (it asked me "Password for filesystem"). But interactive startup seems not working. All the services go to start without my permission. I mean there is no question such as "Start XXX [Y/N]?"
In the past I used CentOS for some months, and interactive startup (by pressing 'i' on boot time) was fine. I could allow or not what service should be started.
i use PCLINUXOS 2009.1 and in kde i installed superkaramba themes. but after i logoff and get back in not only karamba not starts;the themes when i took a look are gone.
if there is way to edit the kde startup also help me with that issue too.
I'm writing a script to automatically get my TEAMSPEAK3 server to run at startup. The script is like this and is placed at init.d and added too chkconfig.
I've set up a second user for myself on my laptop.
My user on the laptop is 'tiger'
Let's call the second user 'jrdobbs'
I would like to log on to gmail/facebook/etc using the jrdobbs, but I don't want to switch users via X... I just want a second instance of firefox open, which stores all of its login information under /home/jrdobbs.
My naive attempt looked like this:
Code: su -l -c "firefox" jrdobbs Here was my thinking: start firefox under 'su jrdobbs' ... firefox should store its files under the current user's $HOME/.mozilla
Firefox seems to suddenly dislike one of the groups i belong too, whenever i try to access it I get the following message,
Database Error: INSERT command denied to user 'usingle_210259_1'@'linweb14.atlas.pipex.net' for table 'smf_log_online' File: /websites/LinuxPackage02/si/ng/le/singlewithkids.co.uk/public_html/forum/Sources/Subs.php Line: 2602
Is this a server error, or is it my system? I have tried using a different theme but I still get the same error.I'm using the gnome classic theme ATM.
I am placing apps into my fluxbox startup file as per the instructions, however nothing starts up except fluxbox. It doesn't matter what app I try, so it isn't an app problem.
here is my startup file:
#!/bin/sh # # fluxbox startup-script:
[code]...
I have also tried tests such as "touch ~/testwoked" and such, nothing works. It makes no difference if the file is executable or not.
