Debian :: Finding Location Where Can Download 5.0.0 Or Any 5 Prior To 5.0.8?
Feb 1, 2011
location where I can download Debian 5.0.0 or any Debian 5 prior to 5.0.8? I've checked some of the archive sites but they seem to only go up to Debian 4.
I'm trying to install debian on a buffalo linksystem and the tutorial is created for a debian lenny installation but I cannot find a download mirror anywhere for anything except debian 6. point me to a download location for a debian 5 x32 cd-image?
I tried to download Knoppix 6.0 iso, but it ran out of storage space. It was placing it into /tmp. Is there a way that I could have it placed in my /home directory, which is plenty big?
I am thinking about upgrading, again, from Wheezy to Jessie. When I had Jessie installed, prior to a crash, I noticed that some of the Gnome games in Jessie are not as esthetically pleasing as they were in Wheezy. Also, some of the games (eg. mines) were slower and seemed to use a lot more CPU resources. So my questions are:
1. If I pin those programs that I want to keep will that also pin the dependencies for those programs? 2. If those dependencies are pinned, how might that impact other programs, in Jessie, that might depend on later packages? 3.If I don't pin those programs that I want to keep is it possible to install those programs from Wheezy after I upgrade to Jessie, without causing issues with Jessie?
I'm using ubuntu 10.04 and PostgreSQL 8.4.7. I need to find out where PostgreSQL is located so I can run commands. I successfully installed PostgreSQL without changing any of the defaults. Matthew & Stones' Beginning Databases with PosgreSQL From Novice to Professional, as well as the PostgreSQL documentation, indicates the standard location is /usr/local/pgsql/bin/ but it's not there; it's somewhere else (ps -el | grep post confirms it IS running and psql is able to do du to display the list of users and l to display the list of databases).
But when I tried to create a new user by running /usr/local/pgsql/bin/createuser the command was not found. I tried to locate the installation by running pg_config --bindir but it said pg_config was not installed. I downloaded pg_config and its dependencies and tried to install them with the package installer, but it wouldn't go because something is wrong with the libkrb5-3 and libkrb5support0 packages - they won't install and the package installer just zips through without reporting missing dependencies or anything. The MD5, SHA1, and SHA256 checksums all match, but they just won't install. I then tried the libk5crypto3 package just to make sure something wasn't wrong on my end - it installed fine. So I searched the PostgreSQL FAQ and found out how to get the version without pg_config by doing a SELECT version(); query. here appears to be no corresponding SELECT bindir(); query. A plain ordinary file search for pgsql, postgresql, etc.
This simple task is proving harder then imagined. I have a multi-level directory that I'm trying to clean of duplicates, but I can't get 'find' to print what I need to see. To give an illustrative example, here is a dir:
Code: stuart@stuart:~/testdir$ ls * dir1: level2: dir1
So the output of find as i'd like it to work would show the two locations of dir1, which would be ./dir1 and ./level2/dir1. But no:
Code: stuart@stuart:~/testdir$ ls -d */ | head -1 | find . "`cat`" -type d . ./level2 ./level2/dir1 ./dir1 dir1/
I got squid3 installed on ubuntu server 10.4. I believe it is up and running as I can browse the internet on my other computers.I followed one of the tutorials on the net and looked at others for guide as well. Everyone of them did not mentioned that we have to create the swap files. Are we suppose too? I couldn't find the location of the swap file anywhere on the server.
I avoid capslock like the plague and use "ctrl:nocaps" when in X, and would like to have the same behaviour in the console. Back when I was using Debian I got it set up the way I want, but now I can't seem to locate the default keymap. I tried editing
Got this while installing the kernel development tools on my Squeeze system being used as a router/firewall. Setting up update-inetd (4.36) ... Setting up cvs (1:1.12.13-12) ... Ignoring install-info called from maintainer script The package cvs should be rebuilt with new debhelper to get trigger support Ignoring install-info called from maintainer script The package cvs should be rebuilt with new debhelper to get trigger support Setting up autopoint (0.17-11) ...
Is that an issue that I need to address prior to building the latest kernel (2.6.33.4)?
I have 2 external hdd in wich I have all my files.... yesterday, I have copied all the files from hdd2 to hdd1 and I want to eliminate duplicates so I used FSLint to find them, now, I have a txt file that looks like this:
Code: /media/My Book/!!!MIS DOCUMENTOS/Documentos/2 sep2003-jun2009 USB/!TESIS/TESIS/TESIS CVT LABVIEW Y CODEWARRIOR/LabVIEW85RuntimeEngineFull.exe /media/My Book/HDD_Toshiba/Borrable/Pen_Drive_4GB/Tesis/Super CD de la tesis/LabView/LabVIEW85RuntimeEngineFull.exe multiplied by millions of entries...
now I want to make a shell script to delete all the files/entries (read from the log file) that begin with:
Code:
/media/My Book/HDD_Toshiba/**** Since HDD_Toshiba is the folder in hdd1 (MyBook) that contains all the files from hdd2
I found out where Ubuntu One downloads music from the music store. /home/user/.local/share/ubuntuone/Purchased from Ubuntu One/ I would like to change this folder to: home/user/Music/ Is this done in RhythmBox or Ubuntu One? Also, I moved the MP3s from the default location and they disappeared from my cloud storage, is it possible to turn this off? With a custom or default location? When does the sync take place? I know its after the purchase but it seems to take a while to start.
I have got a question, my fileserver is up and running and is working great but if i want to download something by HTTP using the command wget [url] it does not show up in my server...
I think this is because my server location is : /Home/samba/
How do i change my default download location to /Home/Samba/ so i can see this in my network?
Running ubuntu server 10.04 headless using putty SSH
How exactly do you hide information when downloading with WGET e.g. is there a parameter that can hide the download location, or extra information and only show the important information such as progress of the download?
Some site will have the location listed, or some mirrors are hosted educational institutions so you can easily identify the location of those mirrors. However How can I determine the location of an unknown mirror? Like for example, say I want to download a DVD install iso of CentOS. I look a the download mirrors and I see list of [URL]. Now from looking at that list how can I tell which one is closest to my location?
Recently I was downloading a file from within Firefox when the Internet connection was lost. Where should I look to find the partial file? I want to delete it.
I was downloading to a USB drive and went to continue the download without the USB drive plugged in. "Save location not found " etc. So I plug in the drive now it wants to start all over. How do I make it start from where it left off. There are no transmission files on the ISB drive dir. that seem to hold the info and the transmission "queue" has reset as if I had not downloaded any data yet.
I'm trying to find a way to use Yahoo messenger on Ubuntu 9.04. I don't mind using Pidgin for my hotmail account but I usually use both messengers at the same time so I need a way to use both. I'm wanting to know if anyone can help me with this issue. I tried to go to the website and download it from there but it was a failed download. I looked on Google and bing and found nothing useful.I went here:
[URL]
and tried to follow the steps with no avail. The first step was to use the terminal and when i did so it did this when I put in :
I am looking for a copy of 11.04 desktop beta1 amd64 to download. This is running on an x120e. Beta1 installs and works but freezes every few hours. Beta2 almost fully installs but pops up with a friendly error that says "installation has failed" with not much helpful in the syslogs. 11.04 Final kernel panics half way through installation.
At this point, I've tried almost everything, so I'm just trying to get back on Beta1 to get stable because this is my work computer. There are a lot of links on google, but every single one went dead as soon as final was released. After that, I will work on trying to get 11.04 final installed properly.
I've found the office equivalent to MS office that I was currently using and have acclimated myself to those programs. Now, I'm looking for the closest equivalent to Microsoft money where I can access my on-line account and download the transactions as I have been doing with Microsoft Money. I've recently downloaded kmymoney, but I don't know how to set up the on-line account download.
I haved tried 3 times to download DVD-7 from http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/...md64/jigdo-dvd, and every time it has failed with just 5 files left to download.
It says: I cannot begin to describe. All those hours of downloading for nothing! What the heck is happening here? When I try to just continue on, I get error code 3 aborts and have to just start all over.
I'm working with a program that uses Open Motif to create all of the widgets, including the Open File dialog box (obviously). However, Open Motif being kinda old-timey, 80's vintage, and for the most part now an abandoned project, it is quite clunky. So, actually what I need to do is to open some files located on my work server. I have already successfully connected to the relevant server directories with Samba, and with programs built with GTK+ (such as GIMP) I can open files across the network because I have created a bookmark in Nautilus, and those bookmarks appear in the Open File dialog box created by GTK+. Now, Open Motif is different: it doesn't see network locations, orNautilus shortcuts. When I type "smb://serveripyadayada" in the search folder, it really doesn't like it and complains. So, what do I do? Can I get somehow Open Motif to open a network location? Or can I do a run-around and place a shortcut in the file system that points to the network location?
I have a Canon MX320 printer/scanner/copier/fax to install on Sabayon 5.1. I have a choice of downloading a .deb file, a .rpm file, or a tar.gz source file from Canon Inc. Where do I have to put the file prior to install, will the files automatically end up in the correct place? (I haven't done this on Sabayon before, bet you couldn't tell!)
I have a system which is hardened so that there is no yum/rpm command installed and I need to install gcc in it. I dont have any prior version of GCC present in the system.
I have been testing ubuntu 10.10 maverick, it has some nice features. Anyway I am missing the possibility of writing manually the folder you want to go on nautilus using the Location bar. It was used to have some kind of icon which you can click and it switched between graphich breadcrumbs or the location of the folder and you could changed it manually, you know what I mean?
I'm running Ubuntu on a Zotac home theater PC. I wish to connect from another PC prior to login. The reason is that the home theater system has no convenient display. I've succeeded in getting a connection prior to logon from a PC using TightVNC. I've also tried Teamviewer running in Ubuntu without success. I'm now experimenting with X windows, but it seems complicated.
TightVNC is working well ecept that it opens a new session and I'd rather share the same session on Display 0. how best to connect to my Ubuntu home theater PC prior to logon and share the same session.
