Mar 26, 2010Exporting the default evolution address book to a cvs file is relatively simple:"There is an obscure utility called evolution-addressbook-export that does the job. To find it use the locate command on your system as it isn't in your normal path. Mine was located :
/usr/libexec/evolution/2.6/evolution-addressbook-export
to use is simple :
/usr/libexec/evolution/2.6/evolution-addressbook-export --format=csv >contacts.csv"[URL]..
But this ONLY exports contacts from the default address book (Personal address book), not other address books one may have created in evolution. SO HOW SHOULD THE COMMAND BE MODIFIED TO EXPORT ADDITIONAL ADDRESS BOOKS THAT ONE HAS CREATED?Cannot find an answer to this anywhere - most frustrating.

Apr 7, 2010I am trying to figure out how I can export my evolution contacts information into a Thunderbird application on my desktop (at work). I back up the files onto a flashdrive into the evolution-backup.tar file which Evolution uses as the default backup file. But Thunderbird doesn't recognize the file type.

I know that you can create a single backup file of all your emails and settings when you have access to the GUI in Evolution. Since I am unable to login to gnome (or KDE) but I am able to login to the command line by su to the user I would like to create a that evolution backup file. I will be reinstalling Ubuntu.

To summarize that article, netbooting a liveCD system involves passing an NFS host:/path in kernel's command line, which is subsequently mounted as /cdrom on the live system. The article mentions copying the contents of the iso image to a place on the hard drive, but I see no reason for this, since the contents need to be read-only anyway, which is easy to achieve by mounting the iso through a loop device:

/dev/loop1 on /mnt/kubuntu-natty-amd64 type iso9660 (ro)

Now, I am using NFS to mount a regular (rw, HDD) directory which I use as a network drive and I can mount any subdirectory and still access all the files within, ie. when I export /data on the server, I can still mount /data/downloads on the client:

Is it possible to export just /mnt and be able to mount any/all of the subdirectories? NFS doesn't like going across multiple file systems:

May 9, 2010This is the issue: when replying to someone, the cursor defaults to the beginning of the date line (on date this and this, that and that wrote:...), and I have to press enter twice, and then up-key twice, to bring it to a proper situation where I can start replying.
Today the issue is a bit better, since I am using GVIM for editing, so I can just press O (or make any other good mapping for my needs), but I am using GVIM only for English emails (since with Hebrew it is not really... hmm... useful, still), so the problem remains.
I know it is a very "little" issue - but come on, 9 years and no solution?!
In general, it would be nice to allow one to customize completely the "date line"; for example, to allow one to decide that his reply line will begin like this:
(two empty lines, after the cursor!)

Fedora :: Firefox And Evolution Always In Off Line Mode
Nov 26, 2009In Fedora 12 when ever I log into my desktop Firefox and Evolution are in off line mode when I run them.
I do not use NetworkManager and this is turn off (both service and icon) as this machine has mutable nailed up connections. I am guessing this is what it is as I have laptop with F12 on that has NM turned on and I am not seeing this behaviour.
How to change this behaviour? I is a tad annoying F11 didn't do this.

I just installed the JDK, SDK, Eclipse successfully (or I assume):
* When I get to Step 4 where I'm supposed to run 'android' it will not run. I get the error message "android: command not found" (I am definitely in the right directory).
** When I double-click it in nautilus, it opens up in gedit. I can set the permissions in nautilus (through the properties - Allow executing file as a program) and get it to work,

When I used ".*" as wildcard it changed all (visible) files including the parent directory (the one I was currently working in which is the "dot") . May 8, 2010How can we do everything, or as much as we can do, from the command line? In particular, I am trying to get rid of the top panel in Ubuntu. Because,
1) It takes unnecessary valuable space.
2) Even if I use a huge monitor, it introduces distraction to me while working.
I created a shortcut so that with a single keyboard key I can open a terminal. For example, if I want to restart the computer, I use: "sudo shutdown -r now". Or I can even create a shorter alias. So I do not need the logout menu. But my problem is, some programs put an icon on the top panel when they are working. So, what is the best way of using command line, and getting rid of the top menu.

Dec 7, 2010About two months ago I upgraded my dual boot Linux-x86-64 Vista from Heron to 10.04 Lucid. Initially everything worked fine including wireless etc. Once I accidentally changed a few /etc permissions which caused a problem, but fixed it going into recovery mode. For the past weeks, I only used the windows. Over the weekend I tried logging into Ubuntu, the gnome would not come up. So, I went into recovery mode and typed "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade" which also went through. However, after that I lost the recovery options. I had used that command very successfully in the past. Right now, I have no command line that would allow me to type something. I was wondering if there are any keys Alt+Del + something that would give me a prompt I can work with. I'm totally baffled as to how this can happen.
