Exporting the default evolution address book to a cvs file is relatively simple:"There is an obscure utility called evolution-addressbook-export that does the job. To find it use the locate command on your system as it isn't in your normal path. Mine was located :
/usr/libexec/evolution/2.6/evolution-addressbook-export
to use is simple :
/usr/libexec/evolution/2.6/evolution-addressbook-export --format=csv >contacts.csv"[URL]..
But this ONLY exports contacts from the default address book (Personal address book), not other address books one may have created in evolution. SO HOW SHOULD THE COMMAND BE MODIFIED TO EXPORT ADDITIONAL ADDRESS BOOKS THAT ONE HAS CREATED?Cannot find an answer to this anywhere - most frustrating.
I'm having an issue in Evolution after upgrading to 11.04 in which upon autocompletion when typing emailaddresses in the To/CC fields, is slower than molasses.
I'm trying to troubleshoot this issue, but in my Evolution the Personal addressbook (from Contacts) is displayed 7 times. That is I have one CouchDB, one entry for the Exchange 2003 server, and 7 "On This Computer/Personal" addressbooks.
Any contact I add in one of these end up in every single of the others, even though none of these addressbooks are in use. But I can give every addressbook an individual name, so it appears to individual addressbooks.
I have searched the home folder and /usr for where I can find these and remove them, but they simply are nowhere to be found.
Does anyone know in which file I need to edit in order to fix this, and does anyone else have the slow autocompletion problem after upgrading to 11.04?
Suddenly I can't open some of my evolution address books. I get this error message :
Unable to open address book
This address book cannot be opened. This either means that an incorrect URI was entered, or the server is unreachable.
Detailed error message: Invalid source
This doesn't happens with 3 out of 5 address books. All the books in question are on my computer. My ubuntuone and google address books work fine. I've looked around for answers, but most of the issues seem to be related to the ubuntuone book, which is working fine for me.
Basically it's all in the title. Birthday and anniversary dates from address books other than Personal - whether these are local or remote - do not display in the calendar. I have so far found no settings whatsoever that would trigger the expected behaviour. It would in fact be good enough if the display could be switched to other than Personal address book at all...
I am trying to figure out how I can export my evolution contacts information into a Thunderbird application on my desktop (at work). I back up the files onto a flashdrive into the evolution-backup.tar file which Evolution uses as the default backup file. But Thunderbird doesn't recognize the file type.
I seem to have lost my Address book in Evolution somehow !! All my addresses have disappeared. Is there some way that I can recover these ?Also how can copy/move/import all my Evolution data over to Thunderbird.
Recently when I open contacts in evolution the address books won't open, with following error :This address book cannot be opened. Please check that the path /home/david/.evolution/addressbook/local/system exists and that permissions are set to access it.I have checked folders and permissions seem ok. Doing a restore from backup makes no difference.
I installed Lucid and went to Ubuntu One from Me menu, clicked manage account, did not get a message to add the computer. After reading a few threads I deleted two Ubuntu One password tokens from the password and encryption keys in applications-accessories. I have not yet been able to get the Ubuntu One contacts in Evolution to work. It always says the address book does not exist. Additionally when I try to sync a file it says 'syncing' but just sits there on 0% doing nothing.
I have tried a fresh install and still have the same problems (I deleted the passwords again to allow me to add the computer). I have tried purging ubuntuone* and reinstalling after deleting the config directories, still no luck. I have tried adding another email address to the single sign on and tried logging in but again this did not work.
I do have another PC I am using now that can connect to Ubuntu One on a different user name and account (in other words nothing to do with the other computer), and I have noticed there is a password entry marked 'desktop couch user authentication' which I do not have on the other computer.
Looks like many people had issues in deleting multiple contacts from evolution-couchdb-ubuntuone address book. I had an issue (on more than one pc, and different ubuntu one accounts) and can't recognize if there are related posts. Something is messed up, but why? The reason why I'm opening a new thread is to ask: is gnome-keyring manager expected to have two entries for couchdb in the default behavior?
I want to erase my address book. After Ctrl+A > Ctrl+D > Yes and no effect, I can't delete single nor multiple contacts. Evolution states: "Eliminazione del contatto non riuscita. Altro errore" In Italian that means: Cannot delete the contact. Other error. (Maybe: undefined eror, unexpected error in en localization).
how to hide an ip address while sending through evolution mail so the recipient cannot see the ip in the email header?
example below: I sent an email from evolution to my gmail account and I can see my real ip address in the mail header 80.x.x.x
Authentication-Results: mx.google.com; spf=neutral (google.com: is neither permitted nor denied by best guess record for domain of email@email.com) smtp.mail=email@email.com Received: from([80.x.x.x] helo=[192.168.1.6])
I can hide my ip using a proxy but what are the other ways of doing this?
I use Ubuntu with Evolution here at work, and we have an Exchange server. can I somehow suck up all of the addresses in the global address list and somehow save them locally and import them to Evolution? Since I can't "link" to the global list it would at least be handy for me to utilize locally.
how to stop Evolution adding the sender's email address, that is the one who sent it to me, in the body of the email when I forward it? I have been through the settings and help and am so far unable to find any action I can take.
Does anybody really know how to import Outlook 2007 email and address info into evolution? I will never get back the hours of my life I spent. I have read nooks and crannies in the forums, run script files, incorporated, Outlook express, Outlook 2003 and 2007, Thunderbird and at one point yelled at my monitor. I have exported and imported .csv files, tabbed delimited files, comma separated value files, and then in the end a post from a non-Ubuntu page told me I could just import the outlook.pst file. Some of the above methods work to some degree. Others just trash my contacts. I have only 350 records to import. None of the above methods will import the address field for Home, Office or Other. They are always blank. Might that be because I ran the Ubuntu One setup files before I imported my contacts?
Despite enabling the "auto-complete" to complete an e-mail address from my personal Address-book, it doesn't work. After pressing on the "To"-button, no e-mail address is visible in the list of contacts. That is strange since the contacts are visible within the address book itself. However, when I typed the name of a contact within the "Search"-field of the address book, it also shows no result. Strange... Additional info: two days ago I replaced addressbook.db in Debian manually by the addressbook.db from Ubuntu 11.04 (I'm migrating from Ubuntu 11.04 to Debian Squeeze). It seems that there is no connection between the visible contacts in the address book and the rest of the Evolution. How can I solve it?
Just started using Fedora 10 and having a problem with evolution address book.I have checked the permissions on 'system' but they seem ok - owner was set to rwx, I changed the other permissions just to check but still get the error. Not sure what to check now as it claims its a permission error but the permissions seem ok.
After upgrading two different machines from F11 to F12, one x64, one 32, I found that when I create an email and hit "To:" I see two entries for every entry in my contacts; anyone else see this problem? On the 32 bit, on a new account, I did an import contacts from a csv file, I see doubles and I do not see all my contacts.
Running Fedora 14 (64bit) - can't seem to get open office to see the evolution address book. Any ideas what extra component I need to install to get the connection working?
Previously I was running Ubuntu 10.10. I have since migrated both of my machines to Debian 6.0.1. Before migrating I backed up my previous Evolution configuration, and after installing Debian I restored it from that file. Everything worked great except that backup included my UbuntuOne CouchDB address book, which I never used. When I right click it and click "Delete", nothing happens. I'm guessing the files in .evolution that contain this information are binary because I've done a locate ubuntu and couldn't find anything in there. It's not a deal breaker, but I'd like to get rid of this unused address book from a different OS.
6. uuidgen should be present on your linux box. you can have other validations and field too as per your need. but these three fields worked best for m
7. ./a.out contact.csv output.vcf Now in evolution go to Contacts->File Import->Import single file, select output.vcf and File type as vcf.
I am trying to play a book that is on cds. How would I play it on the computer so I can listen to it. I could find only a music player and that did not seem to work.
Also I am trying to play a movie. The movie player came up when I loaded the movie cd but I could not seem to get the movie to play?
There is a following convention: tar/zip/rar archive renamed to cbt/cbr/cbz is recognized by some application as a comic book file, so file managers can open it using corresponding viewers, which treat sequence of images inside as pages of a book. And nautilus used to recognize cbt files, making thumbnails from the first image in such renamed archive back in karmic. It still recognizes such file as "Comic Book Archive" after upgrade to lucid but fails to thumbnail it now. It tries to do that though, showing icon with the clock for a moment, but almost instantly fails, printing "Error loading document: File type Tar archive (application/x-tar) is not supported" to the console. When I am trying to open cbt file in evince (which is responsible for making document thumbs in gnome afaik) it displays exactly the same error message. Cbt files itself are completely valid and can be opened easily with Comix for example. Thumbs created in karmic are still displaying fine as well.
I noted in another post that gtkpod was suggested for audio book use. I had a look at the documentation but it did not give any clear indication of this.
Using iTunes it is possible to link all the tracks on 1 CD which makes for uninterupted listening and will also offer the facility to stop and re-start the book from where I left off. Is this available using gtkpod?
My laptop is purely a Linux setup. I am told that I would have to change the BIOS settings which is well beyond my capabilities. As I particularly wish to keep my system pure I need to find the best possible way to work with audio books rather than to capitulate to Microsoft or Apple.
I'm new to linux hence would like to know if there are any books that can be helpful in understanding linux from the scratch. Any suggestions would be greatful.
Please recommend me the best book in English Language and the best website in English Language that teach me Linux step by step. The PDFs of the books are better!!I just want to learn LinuxOS as deeper as I can!!!
I'm starting to take advantage of a lot of the software packages that come with Ubuntu, and I am finding an abundance of software for just about everything. So far, the best application for my needs is the Calibre E-Book Reader, and I am wondering if a similar program exists for audio books. Something which would store them altogether, and categorise them by title, date, genre, author etc.
Which linux media player is good for listening audio books, I need something with good bookmark support, something to at least remember where I left last time.
Is this possible? Can I use the free 3g service that is generally restricted to buying books and Wikipedia, and use it to browse the web and check my email?
I know many people have asked about environment variables before, but I am having a hard time dealing with these paths while ensuring I don't mess around with the original settings. How would you go about executing these commands in Ubuntu in terms of environment variables?
put /home/stanley/Downloads/ns-allinone-2.34/bin:/home/stanley/Downloads ns-allinone-2.34/tcl8.4.18/unix:/home/stanley/Downloads/ns-allinone-2.34/tk8.4.18/unixinto your PATH environment; so that you'll be able to run itm/tclsh wish/xgraph.
IMPORTANT NOTICES:
(1) You MUST put /home/stanley/Downloads/ns-allinone-2.34/otcl-1.13, /home/stanley/Downloads/ns-allinone-2.34/lib, into your LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable.
