I cannot seem to find what I need to in either these forums, Ubuntu help, or various Man pages.Issue:When I insert a CD it automounts correctly, but I cannot Use the "Open with Wine" option (even after configuring wine to recognize the executable) due to a "trust" issue within Ubuntu. I have learned that this "trust" is simply the executable bit, but I obviously cannot change that bit on a read only medium. he software requires the CD at both install and run time, so I cannot use a separately mounted ISO.Somewhere there must be a setting where I can turn off the "require trust flag" which I assume must exist.
I have a dual boot Dell Studio laptop with Windows (VISTA) and Ubuntu (9.0.4) installed on it. I have recently installed Ubuntu to make it a dual boot. Before that I was using LiveUSB Ubuntu image for six months (without any problems).
During the installation of Ubuntu, I created a Linux partition of 2GB for Ubuntu installation (assuming that it was running successfully on my 2GB USB drive). All of my other work (e.g. documents/programming projects etc.) are stored on the Windows partition (which is loaded during the boot time automatically). The problem is that I get a "permission denied" error while running any executable file on the Windows partition. But if I copy the same executable on the Linux partition, everything works perfect. Am I missing something here?
I have verified that the executable have necessary execute permissions.
i have n files and each file has 5-6 .sql files.Now I need to wrie a shell script that executes all the n files in parellel and for each n file the .sql files sequentially.eg
"List.lst" is my file containing my files. How may I burn them onto my blank disc with either growisofs or cdrecord? Usually it is based on a copy of a folder to a temp folder, and burn this folder. but I would like to use a file as input. man growisofs is not so widely full of explanations.. .
I can play a CD which has music files as .CDA files, if I put it in the internally mounted CD/DVD player. I can see the contents of the CD with Dolphin (or Konquror) and play it using Kaffeine. However, as soon as put the same CD in an external DVD/CD player, I cannot see it with Dolphin (or Konqueror). Nor can I play it Kaffeine (although, strangely, I can play it with VLC player). My system just cannot mount that CD, it remains invisible to the system (excepting for the VLC player or the K3b). For CD with mp3 files or DATA files there is no problem at all.
How can I play and see CDROM with files in CDA format through an external USB DVD/CD player in the same way as I can see it when put in the internal DVD/CD player?
I have been trying plop floppy to boot a bootable cdrom from a mobile USB cdrom reader, but the usb cdrom are not recognized.I was thinking that with grub or grub2 or syslinux that would be possible, no ?
One of Konqueror's unique features is that i can name a local process as the action in a form. When i submit that form, the local process is executed. Very helpful for certain offline tasks. What would make it even better is if i could find a way to pass some data to that local process from the html page. This could be the content of a hidden input item, etc. Alternatively, if there is a way for Konqueror to create or update a local file with data from the html page, that would acheive the same end.
A bunch of my .rtf files suddenly (within the last few days, not sure when) have the "Allow Executing File as Program" box checked under their file Permissions. So whenever I try to open an rtf document, it asks if I want to run it. What's up with that?
It seems all .exe files work from my /home folder, however as this didn't have enough space I installed a game(World of Warcraft) onto one of the file systems in /media folder. The game worked perfectly when I played it on Linux Mint 9 but when I upgraded to Linux mint 11 it wasn't marked as executable. When I attempt to change the permissions from properties to "allow executing file as program", it instantly deselects the box and double clicking has no effect. I've tried the "chmod +x" command from the terminal and that has no effect either. I can't move the file to my "/home" folder as it's too large.
I am a xfce user. I have a list of wallpapers and I wanted to change them every 5 minutes Initially I was using a simple command in crontab entry to change it, Quote: */5 * * * * xfdesktop --reload it was working but it would crash xfdesktop process after few changes and the screen would be all grey. To solve this issues I wrote a simple script which would check if xfdesktop is alive and if yes it would call xfdesktop --reload else start xfdesktop I called this script idesktop & its path is ~/.bin/idesktop
I successfully installed and validate ns-allinone-2.34 network simulator on ubuntu-9.10. I then tried to run simple tcl code and ended up on the following error. I couldn't move ahead from there. What should I do to make 'nam(version 1.14)' work on my ubuntu 9.10?

By the way I googled and got some suggestions like: adding 'nam' directory to environment. I did this as follow but it didn't work. I added: export PATH=$PATH:/home/elias/ns-allinone-2.34/nam-1.14 to /etc/profile (>sudo gedit /etc/profile)
I'm using a software that needs to read data from a cdrom. The instructions say to mount the cdrom (mount /mnt/cdrom). I understand that I need to mount the cdrom to /mnt/cdrom. I created a folder "cdrom" under "mnt". Then I tried to mount the cdrom by typing:
sudo mount /media/ /mnt/cdrom/ This didn't work. Under "media" I have another folder with the actual cd content so I tried to mount it too, but again with no success. I keep getting an error that "media is not a block device". What I am doing wrong?
whenever i try to burn mp3 from a disk in the cdrom, the system will freeze up solid, keyboard, screen, mouse, the whole shebang. ubuntu will see an audio disk in the cdrom, and i can play some tracks off it (sometimes), but trying to copy it to mp3s will crash everything after about 2-3 minutes. somewhere between tracks 2 - 4. anyone else have issues? i have tried a different cdrom, and cables... and i hate to say it but it works under windows.
I can NOT mount my CDROM. I see several under the /dev folder cdrom, cdrw, dvd, scd0, src, how do I kow which drive to mount? I would like to load KDE fom a slackware disk,
My cdrom drive was working until yesterday it didn't mount at all. It said 'special device /dev/scd0 does not exist'. I am trying to install MySQL, Apache, and PHP onto my Linux Ubuntu laptop from a cdrom that I got from a teach yourself MySQL, Apache, and PHP book I bought. First off there were two steps which i think i did right. The first was to mount the CD-ROM under /mnt in my file system which i did and there seems to be no problem except for the reply "mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only"
now first of all there are two things I need to explain, first of all I was superuser for all of this by using the command su at the beginning of my terminal session. Second of all the symbol "|" on my line of code above looks different from the symbol in the book. It should have a small space in the middle of it. However it looks like this on my keyboard so I am assuming it is simply a difference in text font. That is it, it would be really nice to figure out what went wrong because to be honest I am curious as to why the book is giving me code that gives multiple errors.
Situation is that NEITHER Linux Mint 9 NOR Ubuntu Maverick will automount my usb or cdrom? I circumvented by manual mounts thru fstab of my usb stick and usb hard drive. Now I go to burn an iso and find that my cdrom is not detected. mount /dev/sr0 /media/cdrom0 does not do the trick, I cannot burn. What in the world could I have done to my system ? I think blkid is ok. Win7 burns the iso to cd just fine. All OS on same CPU (grub2). I have done some searches but with minimal success.
