I restarted conky, but didn't use my start script I just typed "Conky" from the command line, when it came up it showed the default options. Along with that I noticed "evolution-data" and "evolution-exchange" would show up as processes. (and then disappear) I don't use evolution, I use Thunderbird instead. Why is this process running? I checked the startup applications and I don't see anything Evolution related.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIn the Evolution message list, all messages are shown in bold whether read or unread. I know it's supposed to only show unread messages in bold, but it shows read messages in bold too, so you can't tell between them. The read/unread flag is set properly - you can tell by right-clicking on the message and seeing whether it offers to toggle it to read or unread. But the font remains bold no matter what.

I've been running the Evolution mail system under Fedora-15/KDE for about a month now, and it has some very serious problems. I just noticed that it is available for SUSE, and figured that since KDE is the principal desktop supported by KDE the SUSE version may be fixed. Before I go through the very tedious process of getting the SUSE version to compile on Fedora, I'd like to know whether anyone has seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution:It ignores font control from the KDE Settings->Applications Appearance window, both KDE font control and GTK+ font control, also its own internal font control window.
It has trouble sending messages to an SMTP server, sometimes taking a l-o-n-g time, sometimes timing out. This can be temporarily cured by restarting it It crashes when a filter attempts to refile an outgoing message. It often asks if I want to recover messages that have never been lost. It often locks up receiving mail from a remote POP3 server. I can live with these, except for items 1 and 2, since I have workarounds. If you are fairly sure that you have not seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution
I had configured the evolution to send/recive email. After it had been configured, it could receive emails. Suddendly it can't fetch email anymore. In the inbox of evolution, there were about 200 emails. There are maybe 5K emails in the server, I guessed. I'm not sure whether it's the problem that there's one email in the server too big, so the evolution can not fetch it. The error of evolution is: error while fetching email. Evolution version: Evolution 2.28.0. OS version: Linux xxx2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686.PAE #1 SMP Wed Mar 3 04:57:21 UTC 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux I'm sure my network is fine, I use pop3 to receive email.

Because the exchange plugin didn't work i uninstalled evolution and removed the ppa. Now when i try to install evolution from the software centre i get this: Package dependencies cannot be resolved This error could be caused by required additional software packages which are missing or not installable. Furthermore there could be a conflict between software packages which are not allowed to be installed at the same time.

I have been using Fedora 14, which has Evolution 2.32.1 but have recently also installed openSUSE 11.3, which has Evolution 2.30.1.2. I would like to make openSUSE my primary distribution, and so I would like to restore my Evolution settings from Fedora, but Evolution complains that the backup file is invalid. I have tried copying the folders in the backup to their appropriate locations in openSUSE with no luck. I have also tried manually copying with instructions for older versions of openSUSE, but with no luck.
An obvious guess at what might be the problem seems to be that I am trying to restore settings from a newer version to an older version? An obvious thing to try would be to upgrade to Evolution 2.32, but Evolution has a long list of dependencies so before jumping into that fun I thought I would ask if anyone else has had similar problems and found a straight-forward solution. I still have access to my emails in Fedora so this is not hugely pressing, and if upgrading to 11.4 will do the trick then I can just wait for that.
I have wiped Windows and am running 10.04 exclusively. 32 bit, when setting up evolution e mail account i dont see where to enter password....where is it? anyone have link with screenshots? i know i can use regular hotmail but want to know how to use default ubuntu programs.
I still can't find a spot for password. options are, login, set preferences and a remember password checkbox but nowhere to enter a password
I moved all my files in my home directory to a new computer. This old machine is Ubuntu 9.10 and the new one is Ubuntu 10.10. These files included my original ".evolution" directory. But on the new computer, when I run Evolution, it seems to ignore or not understand this directory, and wants me to set up all new accounts. There is a lot of email saved locally in that ".evolution" directory I need to keep. How can I get this newer version of Evolution to use those old files?

A Eee-Pc 1000h with '11.04' during the week (agenda / mail), and on the weekends a do a back up on a Toshiba Qosmio G20 '10.10' I press import or is it restore and everything is good. Except for today I am getting 'Invalid Evolution backup file' each time. I have tryed purging evolution. Even uninstalling it but to no avail.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just installed ubuntu 10 on a thinkpad t410. At first everything worked swimmingly, INCLUDING the wireless. After about five minutes, the wireless stopped working, in that it seemed to think it was still connected but pinging didn't work. I've now restarted several times, and each time I restart, the wireless works for about 1 minute, then stops working. If I try to disconnect and reconnect it will not reconnect (until I restart, that is).
iwconfig shows the correct ESSID and ifconfig shows an address, and "connection information" shows a varying percentage of connection.
I keep the network window of System Monitor active on my panel to see if anything is going on with the network.
After the last upgrade, lucid has been having nonstop short, small bursts of network activity, showing in system monitor as received data of approx 60 kb, then 0, then ~60, then 0, continuously. This is occurring before any applications are opened.
Whatever it is, it starts to tie up the processor until performance is unusable.
The processes screen does not offer any clues, perhaps because the data transfers are so small and spaced out. It still should indicate what is tying up the CPU, though. In the attached screencap, you can see the network activity pattern in the system monitor window in the panel.
Is there any way to monitor what processes are accessing the network in order to see what is going on?
Why each boot-level consist of shell-scripts that start and stop processes? Why does the system while booting not just simply add the necessary programs for the next level by starting them, thus making the stopping of specific tasks not necessary and certainly speeding up the boot process?

And it comes and goes with the cpu usage. cpu1 will run at like 9 or 10 percent idle while cpu2 will run at 100 percent all the time. I am not sure whats going on. But id hate to have to start from scratch again begins I just got it set up the way i want it. And the network activity keeps having spikes when I am not online. I've scanned with multiple port scanners and nothing seems out of the norm.
Is this normal? using Lucid Lynx. Also happened to me on Karmic.

I've just installed the Netbook Edition of Lucid on my MacBook, and it works great, with two issues:
First, each time I start, the computer is extraordinarily laggy (pretty much unusable), until I run System Testing for video, and go through the whole process. Then it seems to work great. Also, I'm having a 100% CPU issue, which switches between my two CPUs. There was nothing under "my processes" that showed any kind of heavy use. But, under "all processes" was something called Backend. I killed the process and now everything seems to be working just fine.
I did some unfortunate dragging I think and now most of my windows which were open before are not there anymore. When I go to processes, I can see that they are still there. E.g. I had a terminal window open and now the window is gone but I can still see a bash process in the list

Ending dbus-deamon and pushing the shutdown button seems to shutdown the computer and temporarily solve the problem. I see that there are better solutions, so I hope it wont occur again.The problem is, I also ended a lot of other processes, like the clock, trashcan, workpane buttons, the sound button, the WiFi button and the show desktop button (and maybe some more I don't know of. I thought these buttons would automatically reappear after a reboot, but this is not the case. I could add some buttons manually, but I still haven't found the sound button and the WiFi button. Also, when I minimalize a window, it doesn't show anywhere on any panel.Luckily I can use alt-tab
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've a laptop running 10.04 LTS 64 bit. (Upgraded from 9.04 64bit). Some times (1 over 3) certain processes are not started at boot time : bluetooth, vboxdrv, hddtemp, cups.... (I may miss some other ones). If I use sudo and the service command I can start them by hand and if I reboot they usually start automatically. I've tried to start the laptop without the "quiet splash" options to the kernel command line but I did not see any error messages nor anything more explaining this behavior. So I wonder where I can find where the glitch is, how I can fix it, and what is the startup sequence of an Ubuntu machine (there is no /etc/inittab, and the /etc/rcN behavior does not seem to be standard)
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an issue on one of my servers whereby the [normally very helpful] du and tar programs are somehow using up too much or my system resources (du 40% mem, tar 20% mem) and causing problems. I am after a command which is able to kill a process without knowledge of a PID but by process name e.g. "du" and memory usage e.g. >= 10%.
Something along the lines of:
kill $(pgrep du) grep %MEM > 10
Although I know that is invalid syntax I cannot fathom the correct/best way to achieve this end!

I just got lost. I have set up a server with two nics. eth0 for the lan and eth1 for the Internet. I have dhcp running on the server. I am using adsl and have run pppoeconf to set up my connection. I have turned off dhcp and nat on the router so the device works as a modem using bridge mode.The problem I have is that the server keeps hanging when loading pppoe or at least when pppoe has completed getting the public DNS addresses.What happens is that the Internet connection can be opened from the /network/interfaces file. This seems to work but it does not return control to the server - the process runs, the DNS addresses obtained but the rest of the processes following at start up never load (i.e. power on the server and the processes that load then).
So I thought that this must be in the wrong place. I commented out the items in the interface file and added a couple of entries to end of rc.local, my logic being that this will load after everything has finished. Nearly right but not. What happens is that all processes run and then the pppoe program runs and the DNS addresses obtained (seen from a screen connected to the server). But the system then stops. What should happen is that it continues to load and at the end return the login prompt.From a client I can see that dhcp has loaded since a private IP has been allocated but I cannot login from that client since the server has not finished loading.I am not sure what I have not done here since reading round I can see that what I have followed is the same as everyone else but I get a different result.
Just installed 10.04. I tried to put a trash bin on my desktop, and it completely borked my system.
I did a ctrl-F2, gconf-editor, app->nautilus->desktop, and checked trashbin visible.
After that icons kept spawning in my panel. Nautilus will start. I lost all of the icons from my desktop. I have logging out, and resetting the trashbin visibility. Nothing seems to fix the problem.
