Here's a neat trick on how to get Evolution and Empathy to start up when you log into gnome. This also hides Evolution to the Indicator Applet, the way it should be.
Install alltray
apt-get install alltray
then
Go to Systemreferences:Startup Applications and add the following
Name: Empathy
Command: empathy -h
Name: Evolution
Command: sh -c "sleep 10 ; alltray -na -nt evolution"
I recently upgraded to Lucid Lynx. I hadn't used Evolution before so I don't know what exactly is supposed to happen but its not showing any of my mails. I entered in my hotmail account but its just now showing any mails and when I click on Send/Receivet asks me for my password but when I type it in, it still doesn't work.Empathy is also not working properly. I could sync my facebook chat account with it but in the broadcast accounts option my facebook page just doesn't get updated.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I got Ubuntu 10.04 beta the first thing I did was to uninstall Empathy as it was crashing a lot and I was used to some other application.Currently I want to use Empathy and reinstalled it.My problem is that instead of chat conversations "merge" with the evolution envelope icon Empathy seems to have it's own static icon. It's annoying because the icon is the same "green orb" whether I have a new message or not. The problem is not the version (2.30.0.1) as a personal friend has the same version and has it working fine.I already searched google and forums and tried re-installing empathy, indicator-applet, indicator-messages or evolution-indicator, cleaning cache and all.
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust did a fresh install of 10.04, everything working great, and I was pretty excited about the integration with gwibber, evolution, and empathy. I was fiddling around, getting things the way I wanted them (startup programs and such), and upon a test restart, noticed that unlike the first couple of times I had restarted with 10.04, the Evolution icon no longer came up in the tray, and my "Me" menu was useless - didn't have me signed in to Gwibber or Empathy, didn't give the option to do so.
Yes, I can still run these programs no problem, and I could probably get it such that they ran at the start... but what I would like is for them to run minimized, in the tray, like they did the first time I booted up 10.04. Again, I trust this is a mere couple of lines in the command prompt, I just don't know what they are.
Set up Evolution by using the procedures. it then indicates no Internet connection?I do not see a way to load Debian's email.

I was using ndsiwrapper with XP driver, but always prefer to Linux drivers if they are available. So, I emailed Realtek web support and they sent me latest drivers for Ubuntu 10.04. I followed their instructions and it works great! With, the exception of, I have to run ./wlan0up each time after I login to start the wireless.
I seem to remember having to modify a file some place, which was very easy to do, but for the life of me I cannot seem to remember what it was or what to put into it? and also, how do you tell if your wireless card is making use of the "n" speed, if the network your are on has it available?
I upgraded from 10.10, and there were no apparent problems during install. However, Unity doesn't start when I use the Ubuntu session from GDM. I have guake terminal installed, which starts correctly, so if I open that and run unity as a background process, everything works perfectly. I would like a solution other than adding it to my startup apps, because I still use GNOME every now and then.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure if this is the correct section to ask this question, so mods please move if needed. This happens with a freshly installed Lucid 64 bit, 2.6.32-22-generic kernel. Each time I boot into the system I get prompted for my password: "Unlock Login Keyring
Enter password to unlock your login keyring The login keyring did not get unlocked when you logged into your computer." At first I thought it was the wireless network problem, so I already checked my wireless as "Available to all users", but this didn't stop the prompt. Doing a little bit more of research, if I cancel the dialog without entering my password, I can access the web without any problems (so again it is not the wireless connection problem), but then if I try to launch Gwibber I get the prompt again (two times actually, if I press Cancel the first time), or if I launch Empathy as well (three times in a row if I press Cancel; probably it has to do with the fact that I'm logged into 3 different accounts, facebook, gmail and hotmail?).
Furthermore, this two nice pieces of sofware offer almost zero configuration options to the user, at least GUI-wise, so there is no checkbox for "Available to all users" or anything simmilar for the matter. For instance, in gwibber I have spell-check turned on by default and there is no way to turn it off. So I guess I'll have to tweak some configuration file in some obscure folder,
I found much of the info is out of date. I installed Lucid - my /home was on a separate partition so I did not format it to keep the original settings and mail. When trying to send/receive mail, Evolution now asks for the old login password from the previous install to open the mail keyring. "The password you use to login no longer matches that of your login keyring" There is a box to enter the old PW.
SOLUTION:
-Go to Applications-Accessories-Passwords and Encryption Keys
-Right click on Passwords:login
-Select Change Password
-Type your old login password in the "Old Password" field
-Type your new password in both the Password: and Confirm: fields.
-Click OK
-REBOOT
Evolution will now use your new login password to access the keyring.
I'm using POP yahoo and it usually works, but often I will get a popup saying unable to connect to POP server... Error sending username: +OK maildrop ready, ... If I cancel & try again later it usually works. The error is getting more frequent.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using Fedora 15 x64 gnome 3. I removed Evolution Mail as I prefer to use Thunderbird... However after I removed it the computer got hung. I could not do anything so I did Power OFF and ON. Fedora booted and loaded alright until the Login Screen but when I try to login it says, "cannot login into Gnome Session" or something like that.
I suspect that when I removed Evolution Mail I something else and something important got removed. Now I cannot login at all.
I've searched lot on forums but couldn't find a related post. My problem is I want to hide my mail folders when login attempt in Evolution has failed. I dont use Remember password option so everytime I'm prompted for password.
When I give no password and escape that dialog, I can see all the mails that have been already downloaded form my gmail account. If any of you guys know already existing post, please redirect me to that one.
This morning when I opened Evolution, It asked me for a password. It didn't like my login pass. It wanted an old password I used to use. I'm having trouble using my hotmail account on Evolution. It used to work just fine but I when I opened Evolution today the following error ocurred: Could not login on server POP3 pop3.live.com. Error when sending username: -ERR command not expected now It then asks me to put my hotmail password... which I do and the same error appears again. Can someone tell me what's going on?

I just noticed that it is available for SUSE, and figured that since KDE is the principal desktop supported by KDE the SUSE version may be fixed. Before I go through the very tedious process of getting the SUSE version to compile on Fedora, I'd like to know whether anyone has seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution:It ignores font control from the KDE Settings->Applications Appearance window, both KDE font control and GTK+ font control, also its own internal font control window.
It has trouble sending messages to an SMTP server, sometimes taking a l-o-n-g time, sometimes timing out. This can be temporarily cured by restarting it It crashes when a filter attempts to refile an outgoing message. It often asks if I want to recover messages that have never been lost. It often locks up receiving mail from a remote POP3 server. I can live with these, except for items 1 and 2, since I have workarounds. If you are fairly sure that you have not seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution
I had configured the evolution to send/recive email. After it had been configured, it could receive emails. Suddendly it can't fetch email anymore. In the inbox of evolution, there were about 200 emails. There are maybe 5K emails in the server, I guessed. I'm not sure whether it's the problem that there's one email in the server too big, so the evolution can not fetch it. The error of evolution is: error while fetching email. Evolution version: Evolution 2.28.0. Because the exchange plugin didn't work i uninstalled evolution and removed the ppa. Now when i try to install evolution from the software centre i get this: Package dependencies cannot be resolved This error could be caused by required additional software packages which are missing or not installable. Furthermore there could be a conflict between software packages which are not allowed to be installed at the same time.

I have been using Fedora 14, which has Evolution 2.32.1 but have recently also installed openSUSE 11.3, which has Evolution 2.30.1.2. I would like to make openSUSE my primary distribution, and so I would like to restore my Evolution settings from Fedora, but Evolution complains that the backup file is invalid. I have tried copying the folders in the backup to their appropriate locations in openSUSE with no luck. I have also tried manually copying with instructions for older versions of openSUSE, but with no luck.
An obvious guess at what might be the problem seems to be that I am trying to restore settings from a newer version to an older version? An obvious thing to try would be to upgrade to Evolution 2.32, but Evolution has a long list of dependencies so before jumping into that fun I thought I would ask if anyone else has had similar problems and found a straight-forward solution. I still have access to my emails in Fedora so this is not hugely pressing, and if upgrading to 11.4 will do the trick then I can just wait for that.
I have wiped Windows and am running 10.04 exclusively. 32 bit, when setting up evolution e mail account i dont see where to enter password....where is it? anyone have link with screenshots? i know i can use regular hotmail but want to know how to use default ubuntu programs.

I have 2 hard drives, one holds windows (160gb), another has three partitions, 15gb for ubuntu 10.04, 5gb for swap, and the remaining 480gb formatted as ntfs for files..
The 480gb space is drive D:, my files are located there and i point the apps to get their files from drive D:. For example, "My Music" folder is in drive D:, and so I tell SongBird to grab the music files from that directory.
It's not a big problem, but whenever I restart ubuntu, drive D: does not automatically open so SongBird initially cannot locate the files. What I want to happen is that when ubuntu starts, drive D: is already loaded, so that the applications can grab the files they need from that drive automatically without me having to manually open drive D: everytime ubuntu starts.
I have coldfusion installed on a guest ubuntu server in virtualbox, it is configured with apache2 & everything works great. But how do i get Coldfusion to autostart when i boot up the guest ubuntuserver ?

If I type that command the gui comes up and it's ready to run. I want this program to autostart with ubuntu, so I went into gnome-session-properties and put that command in there.

how do i clear autostart? i've unchecked everything i don't need in "startup applications" but still after reboot i get everything running. i cleared ~./config/autostart but after reboot there appear all the default startup applicatons. I am working on a custom install preseed. Part of the process is creating a file: /home/bholt/.config/autostart/starter.sh
That way on first boot, this will execute and continue my custom process.
But it does not start. After boot if I go double click it it runs fine.
And one time it did auto start correctly. But I don't know what I did to break it.
All i can think is I changed starter.sh to in turn start something else rather than just run itself.
i understand autostarting an app is done at setting > session and startup > application autostart.
where is the vlc app located?

I have successfully installed this on my Ubuntu 10.10 machine and it seems to be working well.
My problem is, I can't figure out how to have the agent autostart when I boot.
Currently, to launch the agent, I need to open a terminal, change to the directory where the agent is installed, then run this command:
I assume it should be fairly simple to add this to the Startup Applications, but being a noon I can't figure it out!
I am using an Ubuntu VPS(Virtual private server) with SSH access. I run my applications(mangos-realmd & mangos-worldd) in SSH terminal and they start up fine. But when I close the SSH terminal they close! but I want it so that when I close my SSH terminal that those programs remain running, and also want them to start up each time I reboot my system. I am found out with rc.local this is now solved or what-not
