Aug 27, 2010my data resides in a partition sda2 - in a logical volume lv_root.unless I'm wrong lv_root contains the information on how to load the partition.so superficially it seems the partition must be loaded bofore we get the info on how to load it.

Jun 19, 2014I performed an update that has caused issues with my wireless. Errors relating to wireless firmware missing and consequently no internet connection.
I've been through this before with my 2008 macbook air BCM card whose firmware isn't included in installs. In the past I've manually installed the b43-fwcutter package an extracted some firmware... That doesn't seem to be working here.
I've used [URL]i ... cefirmware to troubleshoot. I have not been able to get b43 or wl to work.
I attempted to install the "firmware-b43-installer_015-14.1_all.deb" package; however it depends on wget to download and install "broadcom-wl-5.100.138.tar.bz2" from wlfinger.com.
So I manually installed b43-fwcutter and used it to extract the broadcom-wl-5 file referenced....
modprobe wl says wl doesn't exist and modprobe b43 doesn't seem to work.

I tried something from broadcom that produced make errors "/lib/modules/3.2.0-4-amd64/build: No such file or directory"... I think this means I need some kernel development packages, broadcom says:

On Ubuntu, you will need headers and tools. Try these commands:
# apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-generic

I'm having trouble install this stuff without the net and not sure installing generic headers and build-dep outside of apt-get is the way to go... linux-headers-3.2.0-4-amd64_3.2.57-3+deb7u2_amd64.deb has alot of dependencies that would take me a while to find and download.

Jul 3, 2010I just downloaded and installed Ubuntu a few days ago (on my Windows Vista Laptop), played around with it, did some trouble shooting (got my wifi card working!)... and am generally enjoying it.However, I am having issues loading my Yahoo Mail. I am using the newest version of Opera (which I also run on windows), but have tried Firefox as well. I am having absolutely no issues with Yahoo mail when I use Windows (in Opera, firefox, chrome, and IE), but can not get it to load at all with Ubuntu. Basically I can get to the Yahoo home page no problem, and can access any of the links etc., except for Mail. When I click it, I just get an error page (as if there was no Internet connection). I have not had problems with any other sites.I'm thinking its some kind of scripting/application conflict, but like I said this whole Linux thing is brand new to me. Have only ever really used Windows in the past.I'm hoping to get these minor issues hashed out, and eventually just drop Windows out of my reality.

Jun 6, 2010I dual boot windows xp and ubuntu 10.04 LTS and the wireless card works perfectly fine in xp so I know its not a hardware/network issue. In ubuntu, it detects wireless networks, will connect to network and work for about 20 seconds.

and it continues on after this alternating between a normal 20ms and high ping over 200ms. The connection refuses to load anything off the internet/local network.

Jun 7, 2010I recently upgraded to Lucid Lynx. I hadn't used Evolution before so I don't know what exactly is supposed to happen but its not showing any of my mails. I entered in my hotmail account but its just now showing any mails and when I click on Send/Receivet asks me for my password but when I type it in, it still doesn't work.Empathy is also not working properly. I could sync my facebook chat account with it but in the broadcast accounts option my facebook page just doesn't get updated.

Apr 22, 2010When I got Ubuntu 10.04 beta the first thing I did was to uninstall Empathy as it was crashing a lot and I was used to some other application.Currently I want to use Empathy and reinstalled it.My problem is that instead of chat conversations "merge" with the evolution envelope icon Empathy seems to have it's own static icon. It's annoying because the icon is the same "green orb" whether I have a new message or not. The problem is not the version (2.30.0.1) as a personal friend has the same version and has it working fine.I already searched google and forums and tried re-installing empathy, indicator-applet, indicator-messages or evolution-indicator, cleaning cache and all.

Apr 30, 2010Just did a fresh install of 10.04, everything working great, and I was pretty excited about the integration with gwibber, evolution, and empathy. I was fiddling around, getting things the way I wanted them (startup programs and such), and upon a test restart, noticed that unlike the first couple of times I had restarted with 10.04, the Evolution icon no longer came up in the tray, and my "Me" menu was useless - didn't have me signed in to Gwibber or Empathy, didn't give the option to do so.
Yes, I can still run these programs no problem, and I could probably get it such that they ran at the start... but what I would like is for them to run minimized, in the tray, like they did the first time I booted up 10.04. Again, I trust this is a mere couple of lines in the command prompt, I just don't know what they are.

Ubuntu :: "Home" Loads Evolution Instead Of Moving About The Document?
Mar 3, 2010I just did a clean install of Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic last night (completely wiping out Jaunty), and since the install, my "Home" key hasn't worked right. To be more specific, it's the Home button that exists in within the 6 keys: Insert, Home, Page Up, Delete, End, Page Down - not the Home button within the number pad.
The other keys work properly, but Home keeps loading Evolution. I removed Evolution to see if it would stop, but of course it didn't. (I didn't think that would work, but it was worth a shot.)
This keyboard is very similar to the one I am using: [URL] A big difference between that one and mine is that I have the windows buttons on mine, so I guess it's a bit newer than in the link.
Fedora :: Iptables Loads But Won't Forward Internet / Why Is So?
May 6, 2011I just upgraded my fedora 13 to fedora 14. I changed the cpu and the motherboard so i had to install from scratch...but I saved my iptables.
The problem is that
I do all the suff
service iptables save
And apparently it works...
But everytime I reboot I have to re run the script to forward Internet...Everything else works just fine...I mean I can ssh, vnc, etc but wont forward intel :S dont know why?

Oct 2, 2010When i open one of the web browsers i use and try to load a web site it's taking to long to respond and sometimes it doesnt load the website at all. I have tried with firefox,epiphany,opera with all the same results. I am sure that this is not a problem with my internet connection because i don't have these problems with windows.Also the network manager connection settings are correct
I also tried choosing the old kernel(2.6.32.24) to boot from but no success.The problem is the same as if i am using the 2.6.32.25 kernel. The strange thing is that i can download packages from synaptic with full speed. Last think.I have recently downloaded the recommended updates from the update manager but i don't remember what are the things that where updated.

I'm on Ubuntu 10.10, and have tried to update, un-install (and purge), reinstall - same errors. Then I un-installed (purged) and deleted all evolution folders and files (re-installed gnome-panel - it was deleted when I manually removed the evolution files), then reinstalled. same errors.. I've tried to install and un-install through the terminal, synaptic package manager and through the software center, with no luck.

Is there anyway to change the speed of it or do I have to keep with GPRS at the moment?

Dec 10, 2009I reinstalled fedora the other day, and it's been working just fine, apart from the internet. It shows that I have a full connection with the wireless network, but it's really difficult to actually load a page. 80% of the time it just fails and shows "Page Load Error". It's really frustrating because it is connected to the internet. In fact, the icon in the address bar even loads from the site I try to access, but websites just will not load.
I've tested my wireless internet with another laptop which is running vista, and it works perfectly on that. Also, I'm running Fedora 10 on an Acer Extensa laptop.
General :: Suddenly - No Internet Connection ?
May 29, 2010I have 3 partitions: 2 linux and 1 windows.
I have been using the 3 OS regularly with no problems. But today suddenly, I had no internet connection with the 2 linux partitions which are complete independent, but no problems with windows. i can keep using the internet under windows with no problems.
I haven't touched any conf files.
I have a usb wifi internet connection.
I just noticed a change in my dmesg file when i start any of my 2 linux partitions.

Aug 5, 2009I just downloaded openSUSE 11 but I don't have an internet connection. I thought that it will find my cable connection automatically like Ubuntu does, but it didn't. I think other end of the cable is terminated to a common switch.I have tried searching it over net.
