View 7 RepliesI've just switched from xub to lub, and I must say it's a lot lot faster. There's just one really annoying problem (I have no idea if this is in any way related to LXDE or if it's just due to 10.04): Network Manager only starts about a minute after the rest of the desktop. So my system boots up, I log in, see the applet, but it is greyed out (it tells me "Network Manager is disabled" or something similar). After a minute (approx), it suddenly comes to life and connects me. Now, I think this only happens when I have:
A) set the wireless connection to "all users"
B) given an empty password for the keyring
But when I cancel either of the two above, it doesn't stop it from happening. I've tried updating etc.. to no avail. I've also tried wicd, but for some reason installing wicd from synaptic doesn't remove Network Manager? Anyway, has anyone seen behaviour like this? Any suggestions for first steps to take to see where it's blocking?
I have a Fujitsu V5505 the hard drive is totally fried & I lost everything. I bought a HDD Dock to check it with same results FRIED.I plan on buying a new hdd & installing ubutan as the OS.I have done some googling & as with everything the more I read the more confused I become. I have my HDD Dock with PC Clone software so I can format the new hdd & load any stuff on to the new hdd before installing it back in to the laptop.
Things I am unclear on.1, New hdd. will it need formatting if so what format.2, Loads of stuff about drivers (mine field!) how what were.3 Can I install ubuntu directly on to the new hdd.Hope you all get the picture so to recap (brand new install no saved files or folders.)
I've just installed Ubuntu desktop 10.10 on a Fujitsu Amilo laptop but it does not see any wireless network. It recognizes the wireless card but I don't know how to activate it or whether the drivers are already installed..
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just installed ubuntu 11.04 on an "old" Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Laptop. This computer does not have an internal Wi-Fi adapter but got Connect2Air WLAN E-5400 USB adapter that was working perfectly on the windows partition. After the ubuntu installation, p54usb was complaining about not founding isl3887usb driver in dmesg. I followed instructions found on launchpadI installed the ubuntu-firmware-nonfree package from synaptic and rebooted the laptop.dmesg showed that the card is detected and loaded correctly as a Wi-Fi adapter and in the network manager I can see broadcasted wireless networks.I tried to connect to both an open (unprotected) and a WPA network without any success.

View 1 Replies View RelatedEver since I upgraded, the touchscreen on my Fujitsu Lifebook P1610 no longer works. On Karmic, it worked out of the box without installing any extra packages.
I see xserver-xorg-input-fpit in Synaptic Package Manager but it conflicts with netbook remix packages for some reason so I haven't tried installing it.
I didn't see anything in dmesg about the touchscreen but there are Xorg errors:
Code:
...
(II) config/udev: Adding input device Serial Wacom Tablet (/dev/ttyS0)
(**) Serial Wacom Tablet: Applying InputClass "Wacom serial class"
(II) LoadModule: "wacom"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/wacom_drv.so
(II) Module wacom: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
[Code]....
I'm not sure if it's supposed to be recognized as a wacom tablet or what, and I'm also not sure how it used to be configured when it worked in Karmic.
recently i got a very old laptop fujitsu fmv-680mc4 with celeron 800Mhz cpu and 256m ram.so i throwed away the hell-slow xubuntu 10.04 and put debian lenny on that machine.
everything worked smoothly(even the gnome environment!but why xubuntu with xfce always suck my cpu to its fullest?),only touchscreen did not.I've also got a copy of windows xp running on it,and touchscreen worked fine there. It's really hard to find a clue about the hardware specification(outdated, maybe deleted on their official website),I even don't know the model of the touchscreen. The only information i know is that it has a PS/2 interface and comes with an identifier 'PNP0F13' (as M$ windows hardware manager says). i remember stock 2.6 kernel do support some lifebook touchscreens, with modules compiled into kernel. But when i run cat /dev/psaux and touch on screen nothing happened(when i move the trackpad it did output some binary codes),and i move on "cat" the whole /dev/input folder but no luck still. Then i tried to modprobe some touchscreen modules in,but failed, nothing comes out from dmesg.
the question is: is there a way to get it to work(seeing binary code flow out of my console is also considered as "working")?does it need some "initialize magic code" to be brought into ready state?
I am interested in buying a small portable scanner since I'll often use it on the go and the one I'm looking at is the Fujitsu Snapscan 300. There is a M version, the 300M that's said to work with Macs.
My situation is I have a Mac at home and want to be able to use it with that so may have to get the 300M but also on the go I use a laptop that uses Mandriva Linux.
My question: Will the 300, hopefully the Snapscan 300M work with Linux? I want to make sure it will recognize the scanner. Also, assuming it works what programs would I use to scan? I want to be able to scan into both jpgs and pdf's.
I try to install OpenSuse on a laptop Fujitsu Amilo Xa2528, in dual boot with Vista. Vista works fine.
For partitioning I use GParted, which does not boot and stops with following messages code...
I recently upgraded the hard drive on my Fujitsu N3530 notebook to WD Scorpio Blue 500 MB, and created a dual-boot configuration with WinXP, installing 32-bit Slackware 13.1 from DVD. Grub 0.97 bootloader is installed on superblock of root partition. Running KDE. Using the generic kernel with appropriate initrd for ext4 filesystem on root partition.
Everything runs fine so far, except the computer won't power off the computer. I've tried using the KDE shutdown, and shutting down from command line - same result. Also same result if I use the huge kernel or the generic kernel.
The last message I see is:
Remounting root filesystem read-only.
/dev/sda3 on / type ext4 (ro)
Power down.
... and then the shutdown process stalls and I have to turn off the computer by pressing and holding the power button.
This is the first time I've installed any Linux OS on this notebook. I have Slackware 13.0 running fine on a Thinkpad T61 with no poweroff issue.
From reading various posts, this looks to be related to ACPI. I tried adding "acpi=force" to the kernel line in menu.lst, but it made no difference.
/var/log/messages shows "acpid exiting" and then "exiting on signal 15" as last entries during shutdown.s.
I am trying to use this old notebook as a poor man's netbook. I installed Slackware 13 on it and find that the touchscreen uses the Xorg evdev driver. It starts up with both acceleration and incorrect calibration. Xinput can be used to successfully remove the acceleration. However, using xinput to set the calibration does nothing to the behavior, although the settings do seem to get registered.
After bringing up X:
fujitsu:/home/mradtke xinput list 2
"LBPS/2 Fujitsu Lifebook TouchScreen" id=2 [XExtensionPointer]
Type is TOUCHPAD
Num_buttons is 5
[Code].....
In addition to the calibration not working, no button events seem to be generated or reported by xinput.
I did a lot of searching for a solution and see that many people use evtouch [URL] for their Lifebooks. However, none of the binaries seem to work with the Xorg build that Slackware uses (ABI version mismatch) and I have no idea of how to fix that. I am open to recompiling Xorg to use evtouch, installing the Xorg sources that were used in building Slackware 13. They don't seem to be part of the distribution.
I haveI tried to install Ubuntu 10.04 to my Lifebook T3010 and failed. The last step was ubuntu splash and after that just blank screen.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI try to install Debian Squeeze on that tablet PC. Lenny was running fine (even reinstall of Lenny works). The installation seems to run fine, too. The problem shows up after the first reboot of the system. After the first messages are displayed, the screen gets black and develops some vertical white lines that keep getting larger until they fill the complete screen. When I configure the BIOS for a second monitor, the external monitor works, I can log in. But this is at best a diagnosis option, not a solution. Ubuntu shows the same symptoms, btw. installed Opensuse 11.4 onto the Fujitsu Amilo L7320GW laptop, and all works well except for the headphone jack. Sound works from the laptop speakers and when the headphones are plugged in the sound is muted from the main speakers, but no sound via the headphones.I've looked at other threads within the forum, and it appears that editing the 50-sound.conf file has helped other people, however the soundcard is a Realtek ALC655 (chipset VIA VT82xx), and l cannot see a listing for the ALC655 within the alsa/HD-Audio-Models.txtListed below is the information requested:-[URL]

I tend to stay on for long time. My machine is a Fujitsu T4310 tablet. I have got all tablet features previously working properly when I was on Isadora Mint. After installing LMDE to my surprise basic features of the tablet simply worked out of the box but I'm missing a few important features like multitouch, screen rotate and buttons in tablet mode.
As far as my experience with Isadora, it needed a driver called "fjbtndrv", but I couldn't find it in the repos, moreover, I think it might need some tweeks to get it behaving properly. I found some refferences but it refers to other ubuntu based distros, which I can't use of course.
p.s. prefere a solution other than compiling it myself, it looks scary and has lots of dependencies.
I've got a new server machine: Fujitsu-Siemens PRIMERGY TX150 S6.
I've tired to install CentOS 4.4 linux from DVD. This DVD is OK, because I installed from it a couple of days ago. Installation process starts but after some steps it gives me something like this code...
I have been using ubuntu for quite a long time, and for the first time, I am now unable to set nvidia drivers to work. I have just install ubuntu 9.10 amd64 on an AMD 64 athlong X2 with a GEForce 6500 nvidia card.
The only reason I need the proprietary drivers is to use two monitors.
I am going crazy, I have tested everything I have found on the web. I have tried all the nvidia drivers version, I have tried envyng, ... but nvidia do not work!!
I am trying Xinerama with nv, but it does not work either!!!
Here is my xorg.conf file in which I have tried to use nv driver to set dual monitor. X fails to load and it says that screen 0 is deleted, that devices are found but there are no matches in the config file. Any clue?

I know i know, some will say "eww Proprietary Drivers" but hey, ubunt is all about having more control of the OS. Is there an easy way to install Proprietary Drivers thats not through the hardware drivers option on system?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Xubuntu the other night (completely wiped machine) and started doing all the updates on it. After a couple of reboots, I changed from the proprietary drivers, to the regular nVidia drivers. After doing this, the startup logo is displayed at a really low resolution. Is there a simple fix to change this and use the nVidia drivers as well?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed Karmic beta and I'm having issues with getting my wireless driver to work. When I was using 9.04 and when I booted 9.10 from a CD, I could just go to System > Administration > Hardware Drivers and activate a wireless driver and everything would be just peachy. The problem is that, in the install of 9.10 beta, no drivers appear when I load the Hardware Drivers GUI, so I can't get wireless internet.
Is there anything I can do besides wait a few days for the full release of 9.10 and hope that solves the issue?
[URL] I just updated and then saw this news , whats the solution for me, I either want to go beta or downgrade, If i try to boot to previous kernel, boot hangs in graphic mode, I cant start X and gdm . How to install kmod with beta drivers? Or whats the solution, nvidia ver: 195.36.08
