As far back as I can remember, on any Linux system, not just Ubuntu, you could use the mouse to highlight a chunk of text, and then by clicking both mouse buttons at the same time, you could paste that high-lighted text wherever you want. I had used this all the time on my previous Ubuntu installations... until now. In Ubuntu 11.04 I don't have this luxury anymore.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to FC14 (64) from FC13 (32) and the mouse middle button (simultaneous left+right button) paste function has stopped working. I tested it with 3 makes/models of different mice and trackballs. For some reason (left+right) mouse returns the same code as the single right-button ('xev' value = 3). This worked in all previous FC and RH distros I've used in the past. Did a default setting get zonked somewhere? System: Toshiba laptop w/ USB mouse.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAbout a week ago I installed some updates. What they were I don't remember. After I did that my mouse started acting up. Now about half the time when I single click it registers as a double click. Also when I click and drag to select text anywhere it'll randomly do another click screwing up that process.
So far I think the problem is when I press the left mouse button it registers the left click and then when I release, it randomly registers another left click.
The mouse itself works fine if I take it to another PC that's using windows.
OS: Ubuntu 9.10 64bit
Mouse: Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0
mouse menu different in 10.10, is there a way to make the mouse single click instead of double click?

View 4 Replies View Relatedwhen i click my mouse on something, it sometimes registers as two clicks. it doesn't happen all the time, but frequently enough to be annoying. for example, when i click a videos video to pause it, it often opens into fullscreen (which you normally click twice to do). also, in the url bar of chromium, i can't select the entire url by clicking. i now need to use ctrl+a. that's also because when i try to select the url, the highlight randomly disappears.
if i have multiple windows open, my click on the first "x" of the top-most window also closes the next window. i'm on linux mint 10. it's not really important, but it drives me crazy sometimes when my mouse doesn't work the way i want it to.

If I normally click the Trash icon either in Kmail or in Evolution more than one mail gets deleted in a sequential order! I have to press the click button extremely light to avoid this problem. I have confirmed this problem is not only with the Email clients but even with most other normal applications too. I have changed my mouse twice but the problem persists. Both were USB mice. I have been searching for a way to disable middle click in Ubuntu, but all the websites I came across say to edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. but when I open that file in Gedit there is no input device section as described in post #3 @ [URL] all I have in xorg.conf is

I hate the middle click paste feature as I'm always accidentally pasting text in documents.
This is one of the best feature of *nix ever. You highlight the text to put it in buffer and middle click to paste. It's been missing since F14.
View 6 Replies View Relatedupgraded to 10.4 on many web pages, when I click on a button, nothing happens. If I hover over the button, the cursor turns to a pointing hand but that's it.
I've tried firefox, cromium, epiphany and arora, they're all the same. I think it's just on flash content, some things work, some don't and I cant tell the difference between them. Tried install flash again and tried gnash which I couldnt get to appear in the pluggins list.
I cannot middle click paste from Aterm to Opera. I can however middle click paste from Aterm to Firefox, and paste from a different terminal (not Aterm) into Opera. (Distro is Slackware 13.1, Dell laptop).

I have tried the fix * Hit ALT+F2 and enter

But I DONT have that file. I have searched for hours and hours. I can rightclick on the player and get to its options, but left clicking doesnt work
so yeah i've seen threads on getting flash installed, and it appears to be installed. videos videos play and all that jazz. you got to adobe's webpage and it says i have the latest released version installed.
problem is i can't click on any of the buttons in the videos. like in ..... i can't click pause, change the video resolution, or move the bar to fast forward or rewind. i'm kind of at a loss cause it is installed, and reinstalling doesn't do anything in ff. i mean if i uninstall videos don't play, and if i reinstall they play. still can't click on anything though. edit:also it does work just in ..... if i get the new interface. it won't work in the old interface.

I started having some serious issues with my mouse after running updates yesterday. I am basically unable to copy and paste any text and this is making editing essays a major major major PITA! Basically when I click and drag my mouse to copy, the highlight looks good until I unclick then nothing is highlighted. Even trying to double click on words to highlight single words results in the entire paragraph being hightlighted. For my two laptops running 9.10 I have to disable the touchpad, I prefer a usb mouse, after logging in, but if leave the touchpad enabled the problem still exists.
This problem only showed up yesterday, after the update as best I can tell, and disabling my touchpad for like the past 4 or 5 releases, including 9.10. I run xubu/xfce4, but I have booted into Gnome and its the exact same problem. I have the problem on two laptops, both running 9.10, and both were updated yesterday.This is not one of those childish "that's it I am going back to winblowz, Linux suxorz!" , but I will have to temporarily go back and use MS Office until I can find out what is wrong here, b/c I gotta get essays written and without being able to copy text it is very rudimentary.
Anyone know how to disable the shortcut to paste using center button in Lucid? This is really really frustrating for me.

1. To go to some place, I click the left mouse key
2. To copy text TO the vim editor, I mark the text first in some other window (browser, emacs, xterm) and then I middle-click (or shift-middle click).
3. To copy text FROM the vim editor, I select the text (left-click, hold down, select text, release left button) and then paste the text to somewhere else via the middle button
4. The same as (3) but TO the vim editor itself.
I have the following content of my .vimrc:

With that configuration, the points 2-4 are working. When I change mouse=r to mouse=a, then 1 AND 3 is working, where I have to press the shift key in addition to press the middle mouse button. How to enable all pieces 1-4, and at best without having the shift-key pressed down to be able to paste text? How should my .vimrc look like? EMacs is not a solution since I am working remotely over a large distance and the network is not suitable to have an EMacs session opened at the remote pc.
I work on a laptop and typically have a USB mouse plugged in. Each time I start an X session, I switch my mouse buttons with an: Quote:

If I decide to unplug the mouse and work with the touchpad, I must always reverse the options again to pointer = 1 2 3, or else, while the right and the left button still work as a left-handed mouse, tapping, instead of acting like a left-click, gives a right-click menu. My touchpad is listed as:

I'm trying it out for almost over an hour, but this very unusual problem came up - after around 20 minutes while system is running, the mouse stops responding. its still working - it moves, the red light thingi is still on, but the buttons aren't responding.
it has the same symptoms every time - system runs for around 10-20 minutes, then left button stops working. 2 minutes later the right one joins as well, and from that moment its a matter of seconds till the mouse wheel won't respond too this has happened 3 times already, and last time it happened after a while the right button & the mouse wheel started working for about 2 minutes and then stopped responding again. do you guys have ANY clue what this is? am I pressing on a hotkey or something like that which is causing this thing?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSuddenly the mouse middle button paste feature does not work in Bluefish and OpenOffice. It is driving me crazy. I have become so used to this feature I am constantly forgetting to ctl c/v to cut and paste.
It works everywhere else. ( For example, I can use it in this text box that I am typing this message in. ) and when I select text in either Bluefish or OpenOffice it shows up in Klipper. Strangely, if I select that text in Klipper I can paste it into either application with the middle button.
This just started a few days ago. I have no idea what changed on my system. It is a KDE4 desktop, if that is relevant.
Is it possible to highlight something but paste with a keyboard shortcut rather than the middle mouse button?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've upgraded to FC11 and I've noticed that the extra buttons on my Logitech mx1000 mouse are now detected. However most of them aren't mapped to anything. In the past one would start changing the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. Lately, there seems to be movement away from changing this file and I notice that the default xorg.conf has no entry in it for the mouse. Is there a new preferred way to map mouse buttons? I'd like to make buttons 6 and 7 scroll horizontally and button 10 instruct compiz to show all windows.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am running 9.10 (Karmic) on a Compaq Presario CQ60 laptop with Nvidia graphics. I have installed the -185 driver which has solved most problems. However every so often the system seems to lose track of the mouse button state. The first symptom of this is that all mouse movements on text are treated as if the left button is being held down: mouse movement selects text rather than just moving the graphics cursor. I am using a M$ optical mouse.
I have tried:unplugging and replugging the mouse using Ctl-Alt-F1 to go into a console and Ctl-Alt-F7 to go back to the GUI I am able to shut down all of the open windows normally using the keyboard, but the only way I have so far found to get the GUI working again is to reboot the system.
I've been playing a fair amount of Minecraft. Awesome game, but I really dislike that the mouse buttons bindings aren't editable. I was wondering if there was a program out there for Linux that can remap a mouse button (Like [Right Click]) to a key on your keyboard. (Like the [Spacebar]) I've done some digging around, but nothing shows up to edit the three standard mouse buttons, just the extended ones.
