Ubuntu Security :: Access To Keyring - Locked Password

Sep 3, 2010

I would like to use a wireless network, I type in the correct password but suddenly a new window pops up saying: 'an application wants to access to the keyring 'Vorgabe', but its is locked password:'

But I don't know what password it's talking about
I went to Password and Encryption keys, there are two folders
'password: vorgabe'
'Password: login'

Ubuntu :: Application Wants Access To The Keyring "default" - But It Is Locked

Jul 9, 2011

This "An Application wants access to the keyring "default", but it is locked. Goes on and I've a few question about the procedure.

The first is how do I determine WHAT application wants access. Seems to me that I need to know what is going on with programs trying to log in.

If I knew what program is needing access, I could determine if I wanted to provide permanent, temporary, or no access.

How can I determine what is happening at startup.

Every time I log in, I get the "password for keyring default" question two or three times, unless I enter it immediately as it pops up, sometimes even that doesn't prevent it from respawning. What could be causing this? I'm using Maverick.

P.S. Hmm, I don't think I'll be watching the lunar eclipse much now, the sky is covered with smoke, maybe it's lunar apocalypse.

Ubuntu Security :: Keyring Password - Why And How To Stop Being Asked For It?

Sep 28, 2010

When I installed Ubuntu (Lucid) on my new computer, As well as the login password I was asked for a keyring password. I gave one, but I am not sure exactly why I need this password. It seems that it was required to let me access the wifi - even though this has its own security code. I found I could stop the system asking for it every time I tried to connect to the internet using wifi by checking a button in the network setup, but when I registered for Ubuntu One, I was again asked for it - twice, once when I registered and again when I set up Tomboy notes sync. Now I get asked for it again every time I switch on.

I would like to know why the keyring passwords are needed in addition to the login password for a single user computer, which mine is and also how I can stop it asking for this password when I switch the computer on. One suggestion I have seen is to make the keyring password the same as my login password. If that is the case, then how do I change the keyring password?

Is there a way to identify exactly what application is asking for keyring access at the given time? I get this query every boot and it's getting annoying. Software :: Seeking Change To "keyring" Password And Access

Apr 5, 2010

I was doing something -- new network config, I think -- and got a dialog box asking for "Keyring Access" credentials. In a memory lapse, I entered the root password instead of the current user password. Now I have this login and password messy dance to go through very often. On accounts where I have not made this mistake, it seems that the keyring gets is details from the current login session and I don't get frequent nagging for keyring access credentials.

How do I un-set or reset the Keyring Access details so that I can use the correct password [aka, "current user"] instead of the root password?

I have a dual boot machine and recently did a fresh install of 10.4. It no longer asks for a password to access the Windows partition and I full access to it. This seems insecure to me and was wondering if someone else came across this. I thought I saw this topic discussed before but I can not seem to find it now. Is this a bug or a new unpleasant feature?I don't think it makes a difference but I do have a separate encrypted home partition on this fresh install. I have also done two fresh installs. OpenSUSE Network :: Network Manager Requires To Enter Password Every Time - Login To Unlock Password Keyring?

Jan 29, 2009

I've tried Ubuntu, Arch, and most recently Fedora but the SUSE GNOME environment blows everything else away!

The only problem (so far) is that Network Manager requires you to enter your password every time you login to unlock the password keyring. I want to disable this.

I think some distros disable the prompt by using the login password to unlock the keyring, but I use auto-login (if that makes a difference).
